JOB DESCRIPTION

MAIN PURPOSE

• The person appointed shall work as a member of the Grounds Staff, and be responsible for carrying out grounds duties under the direction of the Head Groundsman or other supervising officer.

REPORTS TO

Vice-Principal, Curriculum and Vice-Principal, Staff and School Development

MAIN DUTIES

• Preparation and maintenance of a variety of sports pitches and surfaces to a high standards, including mowing, aeration and renovation practices.

• Preparation and upkeep of lawns and decorative areas – mowing, strimming, hedge cutting, pruning and weeding (which may require chemical control and application under supervision).

• Removal of litter, leaves and rubbish in certain areas.

• Operation and maintenance of various types of machinery and equipment.

• In icy/snowy weather ensuring that footpaths, steps and parking areas are kept safe for pupils, staff and parents to access.

• Unlocking and locking of ground and facilities

• Awareness of Health and Safety requirements

• Undertake other reasonable duties related to the job purpose required from time to time.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

1. Experience working as a Groundsperson

2. As this is a physical role, able to use heavy machinery, lifting, carrying and working outdoors in all weather conditions

3. Hardworking, high standards, good attention to detail

4. Good teamwork

5. Clean driving licence

1. Sports Turf qualifications

DESIRABLE CRITERIA

2. Chemical Licence qualifications

The essential criteria which will initially be measured at the shortlisting stage and which may also be further explored during the interview/selection stage. You should therefore make it clear on your application form how, and to what extent you meet these criteria. Failure to do so may result in you not being shortlisted.

Appointment to this position is subject to the successful candidate undertaking an Access NI check and to this check being clear of any offences that may affect appointment to this post. The College’s decision on what is acceptable in terms of this check will be final. The cost of this check is £32.00 and the successful candidate will be required to pay the school for this service.

Appointment to this position is also subject to two satisfactory references being received.
