Oct.15: Maple Turner III Art Gala at Knox Building

The Maple Turner III Art Gala opens 6 p.m., Friday, Oct. 15 at the Knox Building, 110 W. Federal St. in downtown Youngstown. Maple Turner III, a prolific and internationally acclaimed artist, will present one night with four distinct shows and an accompanying gala. Tickets are $125 per person, $200 per couple and $600 for a table of eight. Admission includes champagne, wine, hors d’oeuvres and dessert table; an archival quality print of show poster; $50 credit toward an art purchase; reserved seating, exclusive gal

lery access and live performances. Turner earned a bachelor of fine arts from Youngstown State University in 1999 and spent several years working and exhibiting in New York and Paris. In a 2014 profile, YSU Magazine noted: “There’s an African-theme to many of Turner’s creations, including his ceramic fetish sculptures embellished with nails – in fact, nails and birds are a common element in most of his pieces. But the artist wants to be known for a variety of ethnic art styles.” For more information and reservations, call Jacob Harver at 330-550-5637.

Farmland preservation certification applications

Counties, Soil & Water Conservation Districts, land trusts, cities and townships are invited to apply to the Ohio Department of Agriculture’s Office of Farmland Preservation for local sponsor certification from Sept. 20-Oct. 22. Local sponsors that complete the certification application and qualify will be allocated a portion of the $6.5 million in Local Agricultural Easement Purchase Program 2022 funds. These funds are used to purchase agricultural easements on Ohio farms, preserving productive agricultural farmland in perpetuity. Certified local sponsors will then accept local landowner applications and help secure easements through ODA’s Local Agricultural Easement Purchase Program. Once the easement is secured, the local sponsor visits the farm once a year to complete a monitoring report to ensure the land is being used for agricultural purposes. Call 614-728-6238 or visit farmlandpres@ agri.ohio.gov for more information. Compiled from local reports.
