Celebrated, museum collected artist, Camilla Webster, has made a meaningful impact on the art scene, both locally and nationally, throughout the pandemic. The artist, whose work is described as narrative abstraction with a world class sense of color, is becoming synonymous with Palm Beach. Like artist Donald Judd who immortalized Marfa, Texas or David Hockney’s Los Angeles, the joyful spiritual nature of her work is like a declaration for the soul. The power of joy for beauty in our midst is a lifelong mission for the former international journalist. From the Iraq war to the power Camilla Webster “Love from Palm Beach” 2020, Acrylic on Canvas 60 x 40” brokers of Davos, and the financial titans of Wall Street, Webster was an observer on conflict, crisis, capitalism and the human condition before she picked up the paint brush. Trading in skyscrapers and the bustling newsroom for her artist studio at Mana Contemporary in New York, Webster then moved to Palm Beach to take advantage of the light, swaying palm trees and the burgeoning art scene. Remaining committed in the midst of lockdown, Webster forged ahead in 2020 with her solo museum exhibit, “Every Painting Tells a Story,” curated by White House Fellow author and artist Bruce Helander at the award-winning Coral Springs Museum of Art in South Florida. Packing a surprisingly virtual punch, Webster was soon invited to host opening exhibits at the new City Hall in Palm Beach Gardens and the launch of Haven, a design experience on Royal Poinciana Way. A strong finale to the season was the selection of two of Webster’s works for The Kips Bay Decorator Show House room, “Parlor Games: by Benjamin Deaton. Garnering the most attention, that room and her painting made the cover of Veranda Magazine’s “Inside the 2021 Kips Bay Palm Beach Show House.” The Webster art book of her museum show “Camilla Webster, Coral Springs Museum of Art” was the #1 best seller in Palm Beach, and is now in its third edition and available on Amazon. Her luminous and graceful style soon caught the attention of Discover The Palm Beaches and PCMA, who invited her to represent the beach mecca with her lauded talk, “The Art of the Pivot,” alongside fellow keynote Thomas Friedman of The New York Times. Her conversation inspired the audience to shift their focus “more on what you can create, than your perception of what you have lost”. Webster is now the featured artist for Discover The Palm Beaches. The commercial success of this stirring artist has been groundbreaking, with 30 paintings sold in recent months to collectors in New York, Los Angeles and more.
