Statement Art
by Contributing Writer Samara Ginsberg
Nothing makes a more dynamic entrance to a home than a mesmerizing work of art. Stacey Mandell creates largescale art that quite literally makes a statement like no other. A former attorney, Stacey incorporates the historic writing system of Gregg Shorthand to visually articulate literary works, music, and societal reflections in a gestural abstraction of discriminating intellectualism. She is a pioneer, elevating her learned shorthand to a true art form.
Her unique style first caught the attention of Palm Beach art dealer Paul Fisher, who describes her artworks as “remarkably sophisticated and compelling.” Fisher continued, “Stacey Mandell’s artworks are so interesting in their narrative illustrations that we just don’t mention enough how each of her works is a perfectly balanced composition that is as specific, yet organic as a zen garden. Like a zen garden, we can relax into the pleasing and stimulating colours and appreciate the underlying thoughtfulness of each and every little line and object.”
Marigay McKee, the cofounder and managing partner of venture firm Fernbrook Capital Management and Board member at Aston Martin, is a collector of Mandell’s artwork. The fashion and luxury icon agreed with Fisher’s assessment and commented, “Stacey’s art is utterly unique, and I was excited to learn about her work. Her art has a harmonious flow and makes me feel happy and at peace. Every house should have at least one ‘wow’ work of art; Stacey’s art has the ‘wow’ factor that brings life to any room.” Like many great artists, this her second act; the business career path behind her, she arrived as an artist as a fully formed, experienced person with a strong desire to make a statement in the art world. And wow, did she hit the ground running! You can see her work in person at The Brazilian Court art gallery in Palm Beach, or online on Instagram (@stacey.mandell.art) or her website, staceymandell.com.
