Cannabis, hotel tax, city clerk, treasurer go to city voters MEASURES APPROVED AT LATEST CITY COUNCIL MEETING Jaqueline McCool Reporter
Barry Holtzclaw
Morgan Hill voters will see three local measures appear on their ballots this November—an increase in the tax on hotel room stays, a tax on cannabis sales in Morgan Hill and a measure that would change city clerk and city treasurer roles to appointed positions. The City Council voted unanimously July 18 to move forward with the measures. In April, the City of Morgan Hill commissioned a survey by Godbe Research to gauge public opinion on increasing the city’s Transient Occupancy Tax—often referred to as a hotel tax—as well as a sales tax on marijuana. Respondents generally favored both taxes.

Preparations for this weekend’s 40th annual Gilroy Garlic Festival began in earnest on Monday, July 23, as hundreds of volunteers once again begin creating a white-tent city at Christmas Hill Park, days before the tangy fragrances of garlic and associated culinary creations would begin entertaining up to 100,000 visitors to the Garlic City. The festival set-up crews struggled in temperatures in the mid-90s, but forecasters say conditions this weekend should be garlic-perfect, sunny and in the low 80s. Gavilan board approves bond measure $248M SOUGHT TO IMPROVE THREE COLLEGE CAMPUSES Scott Forstner Reporter
A measure asking the voters for $248 million worth of bonds to upgrade Gavilan College's main campus, as well as its Coyote Valley and San Benito County satellite sites,
will appear on the Nov. 6 ballot. The measure will require 55 percent voter approval to pass. Gavilan Joint College District Board President Jonathan Brusco confirmed a unanimous vote among the five trustees in attendance at the July 10 meeting, with two members absent from the proceedings. “If this were to pass, this would line the college
up for the next decade,” said Brusco, who stressed that the potential funds would impact all three Gavilan sites. “When you break down the money, it computes to less than $100 per year for the average property owner. For me, that’s well worth it for all the things we can do to improve student success.” If approved, the $248 million debt would be paid off over the next
28 years through property taxes on the assessed value of homes in San Benito County and southern Santa Clara County. Brusco said the timing is right, with the population growth in Santa Clara and San Benito counties nurturing an increase in demand for programs at the community college level, along with the availability of state matching funds for school construction projects.

Stabbing suspects request lower bail CAMPOS AND SANCHEZ ACCUSED OF ATTACKING THREE MEN IN MORGAN HILL Michael Moore Editor
Two women accused of stabbing three men in a July 7 altercation in downtown Morgan Hill will remain in jail at least until
their next hearing, despite their attorneys’ pleas to reduce their current bail amount of $175,000. Alexandria Campos, 23, of Morgan Hill, and Tori Sanchez, 22, of Freedom, appeared at South County Courthouse July 20 for a plea hearing. Neither suspect entered a plea, but Judge Kenneth Shapero scheduled formal bail hearings for both women for Aug. 13 at the Morgan Hill courthouse.
Both suspects are also set for a plea hearing Aug. 17. Campos and Sanchez are each charged with three felony counts of assault with a deadly weapon. The charges stem from an early-morning incident in which they stabbed three men in the area of Monterey Road and Third Street July 7. The altercation followed a late night of drinking alcohol at area bars. Campos’ attorney,
Jennifer Redding of the Santa Clara County Public Defender’s Office, argued adamantly for the woman’s bail to be reduced to an affordable amount, or to allow her release on “supervised own recognizance.” Redding presented several letters written by community members, attesting to Campos’ character and supporting the request to release her until trial. A Community Solutions advocate and church
leader are among the writers of these letters, which show “overwhelming support” for Campos, as well as her “extremely strong ties to the community,” Redding said. “These allegations are completely outside her character,” Redding told the judge. Furthermore, the current bail of $175,000 is not affordable for Campos, Redding said. She recently qualified for
Section 8 housing and was living with her sister, who depends on Campos, before the July 7 arrest. Santa Clara County Deputy District Attorney Patricia Henley argued against reducing Campos’ bail. She said the evidence related to the July 7 incident shows Campos and Sanchez “pursued the victims into the street” and stabbed them, “producing ➝ Stabbing, 5

No concrete vaults in ‘Less than significant’ Cordoba cemetery with mitigation South Valley Islamic Community has conducted several public information sessions about the Cordoba project and facilitated Q&A opportunities for the benefit of the community at large. We will endeavor to arrange more sessions, time and resources permitting. SVIC is proposing a green cemetery at the Cordoba Center that allows no above-ground tombstones and no non-biodegradable materials in the graves. We do not embalm the bodies, a process that introduces potentially harmful carcinogens in the ground. We do not use caskets that may present lead, paint and other potentially harmful materials in its construction. At one of the public information meetings, Mr. Akhter was asked by a member of the “Gilroy-Morgan Hill Patriots,” longtime staunch opponents of this project, about the concrete liners or vault in the graves. They claimed this information was on Cordoba Center website. We found no such information on the stated website. In a subsequent meeting, the same Patriot member presented an old project description from 2016, which we traced back to being on the Santa Clara County website. They were informed that this was erroneous information that needs to be corrected. We have since established that the county was in fact previously contacted by SVIC and corrected about the cemetery, specifically on the lack of concrete vaults. We suggested that the opposition and other concerned people contact the county planning staff for up-to-date information about the project. SVIC is not responsible for outdated or incorrect information on Santa Clara County's website. The Draft EIR correctly describes the project and the cemetery. This study serves as and remains the key evidentiary document throughout this process, and the basis for all environmental assessments about the project. Furthermore, SVIC has never sought any certifications by any "non-government" entities regarding the Cordoba cemetery. The use of the term "green" only signifies the natural burial process, without the introduction of any environmentally harmful or non-biodegradable materials. There are many green cemeteries in California and across the country, representing the growing trend in ecologically friendly burials. One such example is Fernwood Cemetery in Marin County along the banks of Coyote Creek, which was referred to as an example of a Bay Area green cemetery during the July 6 meeting. I refer to the Times article “Opposition To Islamic Center Continues,” on July 20. Your reporter did not cite the pertinent paragraph in full when she quoted the Draft Environmental Impact Report on the proposed Cordoba Project in San Martin as, “The potential effect on groundwater is not because of any specific toxicity [human remains] possess, but rather because of the potential for increasing the concentration of naturally occurring organic or inorganic substances to levels that would render the ground water unfit for potable supplies or other uses.” Had she read further in the report, or even its much shorter summary, she would have noted the mitigations to remedy that potential issue. The pertinent paragraph in the full report states (Page 4.4-28): “Significance After Mitigation: . . . With implementation of mitigation measures 4.4-4, . . . that operation [meaning, the proposed burial] does not affect groundwater quality, this impact would be less than significant.” The highlighting (bold fonts) of the phrase “less than significant” is in the Draft EIR. The Cordoba Project would be less controversial if facts are clearly and fully stated. The media should not contribute to misinformation. Omitting key phrases has the same effect and perhaps the same intent as to mislead. Karen Musa President, South Valley Islamic Center
Questions about mosque project Santa Clara County hosted a special meeting on July 12 for public comment on the Cordoba Center Draft Environmental Impact Report. Many in the crowded room ignored the purpose of the meeting and voiced “feelings” about the applicant or project. South Valley Islamic Center project manager Sal Akhter earlier had assured residents of the project’s regulations and safety compliance. He said the Cordoba cemetery would be “green,” or natural. One opponent of the project questioned him about the cemetery and the use of cement vaults over each grave, saying she got the information from the project’s

website. Akhter assured the group that there were no cement vaults being used and that he was unaware of that information on any website. On July 18, Advent Lutheran Church pastor Anita Warner welcomed the community to another discussion of the project. In the applicant’s own project description on the county’s website, it states “Each grave will have a 7.5foot by 3-foot submerged vault.” A copy of the project description was passed around in an attempt to clear up the discrepancy. Akhter stated at the meeting, “We need to correct that.” Transparency? Full disclosure? Discrepancies? Can an applicant in this county apply for a building permit, provide county planning with a project description, then change it whenever they feel like it? Why wasn’t the public notified? Why wasn’t the applicant forthcoming about the change? Is this a county error or an applicant error? Are we supposed to believe the applicant wasn’t aware of the cement vaults in the project description? It’s discrepancies like these that foster distrust in the community regarding new projects. What else aren’t they telling the public? I also expect Santa Clara County to do due diligence with respect to transparency and compliance by submitting a complete environmental document to the state clearinghouse that would notify all agencies having a stake in this project. As a last point, this correction needs to be made to the article in the July 20 local papers. 1) The article says Islamic community member Hambdy Abass believed the majority of comments were in support. Not true!! I counted each speaker and there was equal representation: 28 spoke in favor, 29 opposed. 2) Stating many of the comments reflected the continuing culture clash rather than the EIR is not true, except by those supporting the project. This comment is supported in the article where it states “concerns regarding the cemetery’s effect on San Martin residents’ water supplies were echoed by many attendees.” This is not about race, religion or bigotry. This is about the location not being right for this large project. Previously, other applicants, including religious institutions, have had projects denied based on an Environmental Impact Report. If this paper had printed the full statement from Trina Hineser of the San Martin Neighborhood Alliance, this would be apparent. Susan Mister Gilroy

phase of construction for the proposed San Benito satellite campus; and expansion of classroom facilities at the Coyote Valley satellite campus. “This is the biggest decision the school has ever made other than to move to the (current) Gavilan site. This is $248 million and this will take us far into the future,” said Trustee Laura Perry, who has been on the Gavilan board for more than a quarter-century. “We have huge demands on campus now. Technology has run ahead of us. This is huge for our students and our community.” The deadline to submit the bond measure and file all documents with the Santa Clara County Registrar’s Office is Aug. 10. From there, a Political Action Committee, independent from Gavilan, will begin the
fundraising and campaigning efforts leading into the Nov. 6 election. This is the second bond measure in the history of Gavilan, according to Perry. The first, Measure E, “did everything we said it was going to do and did it on time and didn’t go over budget,” Perry said. Projects for the $104 million Measure E, approved in 2004, included modernization of the Gilroy campus, land purchases for the Coyote Valley and San Benito County campuses, new tennis courts, swimming pool, gymnasium, beach volleyball courts and softball/baseball athletic complex. Trustee Lois Bandeira-Locci was absent from the July 10 meeting and did not take part in the vote to approve the latest bond measure, but said she supports it.

“A California community college is an economic gift that sustains over time, stimulating local commerce and reducing the cost of higher education for 2.1 million students statewide,” said Bandeira-Locci. She estimated a savings of $100,000 (based on tuition and housing) for a student who begins at a community college and then transfers to a University of California-system university. “Most ardently, I trust voters will not want to punish the (Gavilan) District for past actions, both real and imagined, and rather support the future of our young people and our communities in South San Jose, Morgan Hill, Gilroy, Aromas, San Martin, and San Benito County,” Bandeira-Locci concluded.

COMMUNITY Council aims for more lower-income housing
Bryce Stoepfel Reporter
As rent and property values continue to soar, the city of Morgan Hill proposes to do something about it. The Morgan Hill City Council voted unanimously July 18 to approve an “inclusionary housing policy” that would require developers to devote 15 percent of new housing units for low- and moderate-income renters and homebuyers. Developers of downtown projects must earmark 10 percent of units for such belowmarket-rate buyers. In recent years, the city has excelled in meeting its affordable housing responsibilities for market-rate units, exceeding production estimates by 200 percent, according to staff. However, Morgan Hill has still struggled to provide enough housing for renters and homebuyers who fall in the lowest income brackets. For Morgan Hill to meet this goal, the city would have to add 193 additional housing units at the very-lowincome rates. The lowest income category comprises Individuals who earn between 30 percent and 50 percent of the area median income in Santa Clara County, which is $125,200 for a family of four. The ordinance has set forth four proposed requirement criteria for developers. • For-sale projects in downtown, with two or more units, must set aside at least 10 percent
of units at affordable sales prices to moderateincome households. • For downtown rental projects with two or more units, developers must restrict 10 percent of units to lowincome and very lowincome households. At least half of the required affordable units must be offered at the very lowincome rate threshold. • For-sale projects outside of downtown Morgan Hill with two or more units are required to restrict 15 percent of units at affordable sales prices for moderateincome households. Moderate income renters or homebuyers make up 80 percent up to 20 percent above the area median income of Santa Clara County's area median income. • For rental properties outside of downtown Morgan Hill, with two or more units, 15 percent of units must be restricted for low-income and very low-income households; half of the required inclusionary units offered at affordable rates are exclusive for very lowincome families. Small developments that are unable to set aside a physical unit at affordable rates will pay fees instead of providing the unit. Initially, city staff had requested to set the inclusionary housing ordinance rate at 20 percent, but after hearing from the development community, decided to set the rate at 15 and 10 percent. Additionally, if the rate approached 20 percent, housing projects may face additional California Department of Housing and Community Development review. When Councilmember Rene Spring asked city staff to explain why the inclusionary housing ordinance rate for the downtown was lower, Leslie Little, assistant
city manager for community development, cited the increased cost of land downtown, stringent development standards, smaller parcel sizes and higher construction costs. Little also cited a historic concentration of affordable housing construction around the city's transportation hubs, which are concentrated downtown, that have historically focused affordable housing units in downtown Morgan Hill. The city’s Downtown Specific Plan has long advocated for higher-density housing in the downtown Morgan Hill neighborhood. “I’m OK with setting the ordinance at this rate, but I’m pretty well convinced that It’s not nearly enough,” said Councilman Larry Carr. The city manager or the community development director may grant exceptions to the inclusionary housing ordinance. Affordable housing units must also conform to neighborhood design standards and must be reasonably dispersed. Renters and home buyers must meet income eligibility requirements. The city will also grant developers alternatives to complying with the inclusionary housing ordinance. Developers may pay a fee, include rental units in for-sale projects, offsite construction or land dedication. Morgan Hill city staff will work to implement guidelines for the ordinance, including new inlieu fees for developers who do not wish to set aside 15 or 10 percent of housing units. Currently, the in-lieu housing fee of $12.92 per square foot of livable space, which presently stands at 8 percent, will be adjusted to accommodate the new policy.
I’m OK with setting the ordinance at this rate, but I’m pretty well convinced that It’s not nearly enough. —CITY COUNCIL MEMBER LARRY CARR

Businesses support hike in hotel tax Ballot Measures, 1 The Transient Occupancy Tax in the city is currently 10 percent, which the measure would increase by 1 percent, if the voters approve. The money will go to the needs of Morgan Hill with the discretion of the City Council. The decision by the council to place the measure on the ballot was paired with another to take steps toward creating a new Tourism Business Inclusion District. The inclusion district is not included on the ballot and the specificities of its creation hinge on whether or not voters approve the occupancy tax increase. The inclusion district is planned to have a tax of 1.5 percent which the hotels will collect from patrons to boost marketing and promotion for the City of Morgan Hill. A council staff report defines the occupancy tax as, “an additional charge added to hotel/motel room night stays and is collected by the hotels and transferred to the city.”
Harjot Sangha, Accounting Manager for the city, estimated Morgan Hill’s original occupancy tax began around the 1970’s with a rate of 5 percent. Hotel patrons pay the occupancy tax when renting a room and it is the responsibility of the owner to then turn the tax collected over to the city. The Godbe study found that support for the occupancy tax was somewhere between 63 and 67 percent of those surveyed, with constituents willing to increase the tax up to 4 percent. The inclusion district which has been proposed to be formed in conjunction with the potential occupancy tax increase will likely be made up of property owners, hotels, city staff and a council- or mayorappointed member. The city council report defines the inclusion district as, “a business district formed by the hotels where through a majority vote they self-tax to generate
revenues that would be used for tourism promotions.” Several business owners in Morgan Hill spoke at the July 18 meeting in support of the occupancy tax increase and inclusion district formation. Andrew Firestone, Principal for StonePark Capital, spoke passionately in favor of the inclusion district at the meeting, citing districts in San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara. Firestone said in an interview that the council’s decision to place the measure on the ballot and move forward with the inclusion district, “was a great example of collaborations between the hotels and the city.” Council member Rich Constantine stated at the meeting that he was “always impressed when a business volunteers to tax themselves.”
Cannabis Tax
The Godbe study also found that 63 to 64 percent of those surveyed were in
favor of taxing marijuana when or if any cannabisoriented businesses are allowed in Morgan Hill. The city council moved to impose a 30 percent tax on both medicinal and recreational marijuana businesses if either is opened in the city. The measure for a cannabis tax follows a strategy followed by other cities and counties, first approving marijuana taxes and continuing the debate over what, if any, cannabis businesses would be allowed in the municipality. Councilmember Larry Carr echoed this sentiment and said the approval to move forward with the cannabis tax measure on the November ballot was just the beginning of more discussions. He called the discussion of whether to allow cannabis business in Morgan Hill “far from over.” While there was some concern within the council over how much revenue
would realistically be brought to the city with a cannabis tax, all council members agreed to let voters decide whether the tax should be approved. David McPherson, Cannabis Compliance Director at Hinderliter, de Llamas and Associates helped draft the presentation to the council and spoke on the proposed cannabis tax at the July 18 meeting along with Morgan Hill Police Chief, David Swing. McPherson said at the meeting that he has assisted in the drafting of several other cities’ cannabis tax ordinances. The council decided to amend the ballot measures’ language on the projected revenue from cannabis taxes to a range of $340,000 to $750,000.
City Clerk, Treasurer
Eight years ago the Morgan Hill City Council moved forward with a ballot measure that would
have changed the positions of City Clerk and City Treasurer to appointed positions as opposed to elected. The measure did not pass because of what City Attorney Donald Larkin described as “active opposition.” Larkin said he did not think the same opposition would be present this time the measure was put on the ballot. He said most cities in California have made the positions appointed posts. According to the City Council staff report, Morgan Hill is one of two cities in Santa Clara County where the positions are elected, the other being Santa Clara. Larkin said shifting the roles to appointed positions could save the city about $40,000 annually. “The lesson we learned from last time is we need to do a better job educating the voters about what it is the City Clerk and City Treasurer do,” said Larkin.
Domestic battery trial set for August COUNCILMAN AND ALLEGED VICTIM ‘ON VERY GOOD TERMS’ Michael Moore Editor
Morgan Hill City Councilman Larry Carr is scheduled to go to trial in August on a charge of domestic battery, stemming from a November 2017 incident at the downtown home he shared with his girlfriend at the time. declined to comment on why she retained him as legal counsel. Schroeder also declined to answer questions about his client’s current relationship with Carr. Judge Jacqueline Duong set a trial date of Aug. 13 for Carr’s case. Kirchick said the trial, expected to last about five days, likely won’t begin on that date because he expects to be working on an unrelated trial in a different Santa Clara County courtroom at the time. But he said Carr’s trial will likely begin before the end of August. The judge also ordered the victim to be on telephone standby for possible
testimony during the trial. Schroeder asked that any subpoena or other court order for the woman be directed to him. It has not been determined if the August trial will be by jury or bench. California law allows Carr to request a jury trial, but he can waive that right and be tried by a judge. Morgan Hill Police responded to Carr’s residence the evening of Nov. 25, 2017, and arrested Carr after taking statements from both parties. The victim’s sister called police to report the incident. Carr’s girlfriend had called her sister earlier in the evening, during the argument with Carr, and told her that
Carr was threatening her, pulled her hair and damaged her glasses, according to police reports. Police arrested Carr after taking statements from him and and the woman, who was not injured. Carr—who is currently serving his fifth term as a Morgan Hill councilman—was convicted of a similar misdemeanor charge in 2015, in relation to an incident at the couple’s previous home March 23. Carr pleaded no contest to domestic battery and completed a 16-week counseling program. The court later dismissed the charge from his record, at Carr’s formal request.

REIGNING CHAMPS The Sobrato High football team recently wrapped up its summer session and have a couple of weeks off before the first official day of practice starts on Aug. 3. The Bulldogs are coming off a season in which they went undefeated in the West Valley Division. PREP FOOTBALL
Can Sobrato repeat? BULLDOGS TO FACE A TOUGH CHALLENGE AS THEY ONLY HAVE FOUR SENIORS emanuel lee Sports Editor
“He’s one of those guys who lead by example,” Holmes said. “He’s very dedicated and it shows in his knowledge of the game.” Holmes is expecting big things out of Vereyken, a 6-3, 180-pound defensive end who explodes off the ball and will be looked to get in the opposing team’s backfield often. Fernandez, a 5-10, 175-pound running back/slot receiver, is one of the fastest players on the team and has the potential to break off some big plays. Redmond, a 5-9, 155-pound running back/free safety, has the potential to be “explosive” and bust off big gains or make an impact defensively. Jordan Sheets, a 6-4, 175-pound quarterback, has all the tools to be a solid starting signal-caller. Sheets played on the JV team a year ago, and he’ll be looked upon to make sound decisions.
Up and coming QBs
“He’s very smart about getting the ball into the hands of receivers,” said Holmes, who expects the 6-2, 170-pound Avery to get reps at QB and push Sheets for the starting position. “Isaiah has a lot of talent, and the preseason will tell us a lot for all of our players. The preseason will set the pace for determining who is going to start for us as we move into the regular season.” Coaches use the term preseason as the non-league games before league begins, and for Sobrato it has St. Francis, Monterey and San Lorenzo Valley on its schedule. Before that, the Bulldogs will be in the West Valley Division Jamboree on Aug. 17 at James Lick High. Jonathan Sheets attended football camps at Montana State and Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo, and came away with the intent

The Sobrato High football team wrapped up its summer session last Friday, and coach Tony Holmes felt most of the goals he had set for the program during this crucial period were met. “We wanted to get guys acclimated to the hot weather, get them conditioned and make progress in the weight room,” said Holmes, who is entering his fourth season as the Sobrato coach. “We worked really hard to load up on the fundamentals and set a consistent routine in the gym to get ready for our inseason session.” The summer session started on June 11 and involved nonpadded workouts. The official first day of practice for all teams in the Central Coast Section begin on Aug. 3—that’s when players can put the pads on and start hitting. The summer session involved a healthy dose of 7 on 7 games/practices, and concluded with a scrimmage with Gilroy on July 18. This was a chance for linemen to compete against each other, with a weightlifting session, sled, and footwork competition getting mixed in to break up the monotony. “It made it fun and gave everyone a little break from the everyday grind,” Holmes said.
“We got a chance to see other offenses and defenses.” The Bulldogs are coming off a season in which they went 8-3 overall and 7-0 in league play to win the Blossom Valley League’s West Valley Division championship. If the Bulldogs are to repeat as division champions, they’ll have to grow up fast. With only four seniors—yes, four—on the roster, Sobrato’s returning players and the ones coming up from the junior varsity team must jell and develop from the outset. Sobrato graduated 26 seniors off last year’s squad, which will nearly equal this year’s roster total (63 players came out for the summer session, and that number will be divided to make up the varsity and junior varsity programs). Despite not having the numbers he wanted, Holmes is confident the team can defend its league title. “I don’t want the guys to think for one minute that we can’t have a successful season,” he said. “A lot of our success last year was based off the 26 seniors that graduated. But I think we have the right kids in place now to be very competitive, and I’m looking forward to seeing them play the opening game.” That occurs on Aug. 24 when Sobrato plays St. Francis of Watsonville at Santa Cruz High. Holmes mentioned six players— seniors Jonathan Sheets, Gunnar Vereyken, Nick Fernandez and juniors Jordan Sheets, Jesse Redmond and Isaiah Avery— who he expects to have a tremendous impact for the upcoming season. Jonathan Sheets, a 6-foot-3, 231-pound defensive end/linebacker, is a three-year starter, very physical and one of the vocal leaders on the team.
ALL IN Jonathan Sheets, Gunnar Vereyken, Jesse Redmond, Nick
Fernandez and Jordan Sheets will play pivotal roles this season.
to impart what he learned to his teammates. “I kept some kids after practice to teach them certain things to improve their game,” he said. “One of the things I taught them is the sideline never misses a tackle. If you have an opportunity to force them to the sideline, do it because it’ll always be a tackle.” A 4.0 GPA student, Sheets plans on doing everything he did last season—only better. “I want to be faster, stronger and smarter on the field,” he said. “The team is looking good, the defense is looking solid, and we’ve still got things to improve on.” Sheets didn’t need any added motivation but got it in the form of attending the camp at Montana State. Sheets went there hoping Montana State would express further interest only to receive humbling news. “They said they were no
longer interested in me as a prospect,” he said. “It motivates me.” Sheets knows if he plays well in his senior season, there will be plenty of four-year schools that will be interested in him as a prospect. Talented and hungry, Sheets has a goal of leading Sobrato to another league title through improving his own skills, most notably a superior burst of speed and agility. Sheets should be a threat to break the school’s single-season sacks record, which he said is nine. Sheets is also looking forward to playing with his younger brother Jordan, as the two will bounce ideas off each other and watch film together. “It’ll be cool because I can come home and look at film with him and correct some things I see, and he can show me what he’s seeing at quarterback to let me know what I have to look for when reading a QB in this league,” Jonathan said.

G
eelong, Victoria, Australia - Peter passed away peacefully in the presence of his loving family at the Geelong (Australia) Hospital on July 2, 2018; aged 90 years.
Loving husband of Anna (Ankica). Much loved father of John (San Diego, CA), along with step-father of Luke (Meryl, Geelong, AUS) and John (Joy, Melbourne, AUS). Loving Grandfather to Lyndsay, Carlei, Jasmine, Luke, Ariana, and Eve. Great-Grandfather to Kristian. Peter was preceded in death by his first wife Anna (Anica)(Lastovo, Croatia). They were married in 1963. Peter was born on August 3, 1927 in Lastovo, Croatia to Ivan and Maria Saric. He had two older siblings, Ana and Kristo, who all preceded him in death. Peter resided in Lastovo for 33 years, then immigrated to the United States (Oakland, CA) to search for a better quality of life. He and Anica eventually moved to Gilroy, CA. Peter was employed for over thirty years at the SAN MARTIN WINERY in San Martin, California where he made many lifelong friends. The majority of Peter’s work involved Wine Filtration. After Anica passed away from cancer in 1979, he married his second wife Ankica (whom he also knew from Lastovo) in 1985. Peter and Ankica resided in Gilroy for nine years until his retirement in 1994 upon which they relocated to Geelong, AUS (which is where Ankica immigrated to from Lastovo with her first husband). Upon moving to Geelong, Peter re-connected with friends and cousins from his Lastovo youth. He enjoyed visiting friends, family, FISHING, backyard barbecues, watching the NFL (Raiders) from overseas, and came about to support the GEELONG CATS Australian Rules Football Team. He will be greatly missed.

NOTICE TO POTENTIAL BIDDERS: If you are considering bidding on this property lien, you should understand that there are risks involved in bidding at a trustee auction. You will be bidding on a lien, not on the property itself. Placing the highest bid at a trustee auction does not automatically entitle you to free and clear ownership of the property. You should also be aware that the lien being auctioned off may be a junior lien. If you are the highest bidder at the auction, you are or may be responsible for paying off all liens senior to the lien being auctioned off, before you can receive clear title to the property. You are encouraged to investigate the existence, priority, and size of outstanding liens that may exist on this property by contacting the county recorder’s office or a title insurance company, either of which may charge you a fee for this information. If you consult either of these resources, you should be aware that the same lender may hold more than one mortgage or deed of trust on the property. NOTICE TO PROPERTY OWNER: The sale date shown on this notice of sale may be postponed one or more times by the mortgagee, beneficiary, trustee, or a court, pursuant to Section 2924g of the California Civil Code. The law requires that information about trustee sale postponements be made available to you and to the public, as a courtesy to those not present at the sale. If you wish to learn whether your sale date has been postponed, and, if applicable, the rescheduled time and date for the sale of this property, you may call 916-939-0772 Sale line or visit this Internet Web site www.nationwideposting.com using the file number assigned to this case 1406956CA. Information about postponements that are very short in duration or that occur close in time to the scheduled sale may not immediately be reflected in the telephone information or on the Internet Web site.
