METHVEN’S NEW HOT POOLS
Soaking up the scenery
Opuke is the Maori name for Mt Hutt. This dominant feature of the Canterbury landscape is now the backdrop for Methven Adventures’ Opuke Thermal Pools and Spa due to open this month.
Tony Joseph of Joseph & Associates Ltd was involved with this exciting project from concept back in 2009, with the extended Joseph’s Project Management and Quantity Surveying team working on the preconstruction and construction phases over the past three years. The company’s role provided leadership and coordination for the delivery of the project.
“We had experience of completing the Glacier Hot Pools adjacent to Franz Josef Glacier, so were approached to guide the Opuke development. It was a highly technical project that had to be both supremely functional and beautifully designed. Selecting the energy source was paramount to the project and its future economic viability.’ To this end Opuke features a 500 solar panel farm which will provide the energy to heat and cool the entire operation.

The idea was born when Tracy van Oostrum asked her jeweller husband Joachim to craft a special pendant that would keep her mother’s memory close. Finding a thoughtful solution sparked an idea, and he came up with a collection of beautiful pieces designed to hold a heartfelt hand-penned note, lock of hair or even ashes of a loved one who had passed.
To introduce this exciting new addition to the international jewellery world, they took it to the 2017 International Jewellery Fair in Sydney, where it quickly became a fi nalist in the International Jewellery Design Awards.
Tracy says, “While creating LOVE IN A JEWEL, we realised the most treasured pieces of jewellery you own in life are not what is on trend, or the most high-end, it is about the love that is connected to it, that is the jewellery we treasure the most and that is what makes our collection so special, as it holds personal love inside forever.’’
“Whether you want your pendant to hold sand from the beach you got engaged at, or soil from your fi rst family home, or a note of love to the person who is everything to you, LOVE IN A JEWEL allows you to treasure these memories for the rest of your life, letting you hold your love story close to your heart wherever you go,” Joachim says.
After the fi rst lockdown in 2020, the couple made the decision to handcraft 100 percent of the Keepsake Collection here in New Zealand and support local businesses. Designs are cast in Auckland then sent to Christchurch where Joachim handset each crystal or diamond.

Typically, that period is around ten working days (two weeks) but can be phrased as “Up to 10 working days”, so that if the Purchaser considers that they have the confidence and knowledge to operate the business in a shorter time, they can release the Vendor earlier than the full period, often with the requirement that they can phone the Vendor if further information is required.
The settlement date for a business can be a very busy time, as there may need to be a stocktake done (especially with a retail

Occasionally, a Purchaser may have a knowledgeable arbitrator present to ensure that the stocktake values are fair, the stock quality is good, and no obsolete stock is included in the stocktake. Your Business Broker can assist with any queries about the handover process.
