RiskReduction Remade with Beicip Franlab’s DionisosFlow Software The world is rapidly changing and so is the oil and gas industry. With the burgeoning digital transformation, essential services software must become even more robust. With its 2020 OpenFlow Suite, Beicip Franlab has taken strides forward in reservoir characterization and stratigraphic modeling. DionisosFlow stands out among the improvements made this year related to the advanced stratigraphic modeling solution, with important improvements for risk analysis with CougarFlow. DionisosFlow is the world’s only commercially available solution for 4D forward stratigraphic modeling and helps to reduce to a minimum risk that companies must face during exploration. It also helps users delimit geometry and facies of reservoir bodies, the distribution and nature of rock sources, as well as generating a geo-history of sedimentary basin development. This unique platform is able to better quantify sedimentary architecture for both siliciclastic and carbonate environments from fluvial to deep offshore environments across the exploration and appraisal scales. The successes of DionisosFlow has already been validated in different regions of the world, including the Gulf of Mexico salt-driven tectonics province, the Middle-East Cretaceous carbonate platform and the Niger Delta turbiditic system. DionisosFlow’s specific characteristics are supported by CougarFlow, another Beicip Franlab software platform. The 2020 version of CougarFlow includes improvements that were made with the explicit Read the complete article More about this topic

intention to integrate the exploration benefits of DionisosFlow. Rather than help modeling, CougarFlow redefines risk-prediction capacities.

Q: How is Beicip-Franlab helping improve technology and software knowledge within PEMEX’s ranks? A: Our strategy focuses not only on technologies but also on helping PEMEX improve its working methodologies. The experience of our consultants in Mexico and France support PEMEX’s decision-making related to its most important areas inside exploration, exploitation, and field development. BeicipFranlab is working on new strategies to improve processes during projects execution incorporating knowledge transfer of our methodologies and Software technology use within PEMEX projects development, with the objective to improve its workflows, increase professional development and better develop its fields. Throughout this year, we have held remote training sessions with the NOC to train personnel in our workflow methodologies aligned with the technology. This has included consultants with high level professional experiences in different areas of technical specialties from France and Mexico to guarantee the integration and adapt our methodologies and technologies to PEMEX workflows. Q: How has Beicip-Franlab implemented its DionisosFlow and CougarFlow programs from the new OpenFlow Suite 2020 for use with the NOC?

year offers a selection of improvements that support a wider variety of exploration needs. This includes improvements within the technology itself. We originally worked in regional models to help companies reduce exploration risk through predicting stratigraphy at regional scale, today with DionisosFlow we

are also helping to reconstructs facies architecture through geological time at basin or appraisal scale while honoring sequence stratigraphy models based on core, well logs and seismic data, aiming at de-risking exploration by predicting stratigraphy and facies architecture in unexplored areas. Nevertheless, these new additions allow users to work in regional or reservoir sizes. This delivers more power for development projects. To do this, we take small samples of data from neighboring fields to predict the stratigraphic modeling and define the architecture of the facies. We have provided the new version to PEMEX so that the methodology can be implemented in the areas that PEMEX has not worked in before. We are training personnel in this methodology so that models will be strong and the new fields that PEMEX wants to move into will offer less risk. CougarFlow also helps with risk and sensitivity analysis for Stratigraphic Modeling and Regional Petroleum System Modeling. Also, CougarFlow aids users by integrating the whole set of uncertainties related to a reservoir study from geological to engineering or even economical parameters into a complete risk analysis and optimization workflow, providing with a better

grasp of the key influential parameters of a reservoir study and allows for safer decision making at every stage of the field development. It also links with DionisosFlow to run a variety of stratigraphic modeling scenarios with different parameters to review risk in separate scenarios.

Q: What role did your products and services play in the industry’s accelerated interest in the digital transformation process? A: Beicip-Franlab’s OpenFlow Suite is ready to be adapted in the accelerated remote operation transition, from accessing all our technology through VPN remote access to the implementation of our currently able cloud-based services. In the subject of consulting and training services we have also made significant progress to help our clients remotely in projects and also adapt all our knowledge transfer and training from online remote sessions with significatively good results from 2020. Q: As the industry adopts a more sustainable approach, where do you see Beicip-Franlab adding the most value to the industry? A: Beicip-Franlab is working in aligned strategy together with the IFP group in a very new strategy to be involved in a working consulting group that will be supporting our current and future clients inside the Energy Transition focused in developing and accelerating R&D and technology innovation on specific domains related to Energy Transition, starting with a not yet prioritized list that includes: CCU and carbon chain, H2 value chain, energy storage and batteries, Low Carbon Mobility and Connected Mobility, recycling of plastic and petrochemicals, wind tech and

and Beicip-Franlab will be working, in addition, together with Axens to attend the needs for E&P and Downstream Consultancy and Technologies. We are starting our Road Map Strategy with some topic like CCUS and CO2, with a Master Plan to pilot, H2 Road Maps and Markets, Green Road Map, Geothermal and its

global potential along with a pilot design, decarbonization of E&P operations at both a global and local level, flaring mitigation, emission tracking, updating of petroleum contracts to account for Energy Transition constraints. Q: Which sectors could attract the most attention in the future (deep-water, onshore, shallow water, mature field, unconventional) and why? A: Currently we are more focused, due to the current strategies and regulations, in projects related to onshore, shallow water and mature fields areas. We believe that in the future we will continue supporting our clients in Mexico with our experience, methodologies and technologies in all these required areas plus we see special attention in the future to start working inside deepwater and possible unconventional areas where Beicip-Franlab has a successful track record for deepwater and ultra-deepwater offshore exploration in the world’s most active basins and a significant expertise in unconventional resources assessment, exploration and production. In the subject related to natural gas in Mexico we see significant
