Letter from your Editor Monicca Maran

The Luxury of Simplicity Our exciting journeys in pursuit of the world continue. Moving into our third issue, we at MGM Muthu Hotels would like to thank you for your overwhelming support. It has been an excellent summer and we are thrilled to announce our upcoming expansion projects in Cuba! Finding luxury in simplicity is an art that one has to learn. Human beings are inherently driven by greed. We always want more, more and more. Be it the house we live in, the things we own or even the number of holidays we take. On the other hand, travel teaches us to be simple. It opens up a global telescope of possibilities where we are forced to see and understand how people in different terrains live comfortably with very few resources. The promise of technology has made us needy and dependent at all times. I don’t think there is a day where one of us can go without using our mobile phone. Technology´s biggest paradox is that: we demand more from the things we own such as more features, more options, more functions and yet we demand that it be increasingly easy and simple to use. For example, the popular online giant Google´s search engine is anything but simple. In a nano second, it can help us find what we are looking for and easily display eight billion web-page searches in a few seconds. Such is the era we live in! The market for simplicity is complex. The issue rests with our complicated relationship with technology where we want everything but also everything has to be simple enough. The on-going battle is to merge simplicity with technology and the challenge is to find luxury

in the simple things we do in our daily lives. I sometimes wonder why it is so difficult and rare for service to be launched with simplicity mixed in? I find that, often empathy is the ingredient missing. People tend to measure the length of customer service calls down all the way to monitoring mouse clicks but here at MGM Muthu Hotels we strive more to master the art of simplicity. Simplicity and sincere service are the only way to truly shorten the distance between a company providing the service and the individual receiving it. No matter how often I travel or where I travel to, I look forward with anticipation and excitement. Travel teaches one to embrace simplicity, to let go of inhibitions, to empty the mind and to anticipate the limitless possibilities that lie ahead. Even when returning to a familiar destination, I try to see differently, there is always something new to discover and always something to learn. Sometimes we travel not to escape life, but for life not to escape us. The journey of pursuing simplicity never ends, although an ongoing search, it is a satisfying one. We look forward to welcoming you at one of our hotels and promise to help you find the luxury of simplicity be it across the Algarvian or Spanish sandy beaches or across the Westcliff sea in London! Visit us to experience life the simple way under canopies, clear sky and sun loungers!

Much Love, Corporate Communications Director, Monicca Maran

A Message from the Vice Chairman MGM Muthu Hotels has strived to be a relationship company with unique people values to enhance our continued focus, clear vision and dedicated team to enable us to exploit and undertake various opportunities ahead. We have been meticulous in our thought process, so much so that our principle has been to measure success by the quality of our work and the lives we touch along the way in this journey and not by the volume of hotels that we manage. I am certain that our success is possible only through the dedicated efforts of many people around us who have helped us in so many ways, and my earnest hope is that the trail left behind us is one of true friendships built on a foundation of integrity and

truth. How we have excelled at serving our guests, how we have trained our committed staff and how we have worked with our communities is what is very important to us. It was with conviction that we decided, we had to diversify our offering, to invest hugely in service quality, to recreate innovation and to embrace new challenges. Everybody at our hotels share the same vision. As we look to the future with aspiration, we are seeking the hearts of our dear customers, where we can have an impact, add value and serve you with the highest quality of work. We look forward to welcoming you to one of our Hotels.

What's happening around the world?

China Evolving China is known for its fast paced production rates, big quantities with low manufacturing costs and low wages. Chinese economy is based on the Chinese mentality, which is work non-stop many hours a day and as fast as possible, making China a global manufacturing hub and the largest trading nation in the world. What does the future hold? Well that is a different story, China’s Leninist leadership is a big problem that won’t be fading away soon, and the idea that the work load is equal to the success in your life is predominant in every Chinese mindset. It’s a never ending cycle that won’t be fixed right away. Nevertheless, China didn’t stop evolving due to its fast paced manufacturing.

What’s happening in the USA? NASA just revealed pictures from the KEPLER Space Telescope, of a planet in the “habitable zone”, named Kepler-186f, this planet has similar size to Earth and is likely of rocky composition. Despite being on the “habitable zone” it is not known if it’s habitable, the temperatures on the planet depend on what kind of atmosphere the planet has. Besides having many resembles to Earth we may consider Kepler-186f a cousin rather than a twin to Earth. NASA scientist claim that they are closer every day of finding a similar planet that resembles Earth. This discovery is just one step to a huge question mark, will we ever find life on a different planet?

Off to Italy? Italy has no shortage of amazing cities to visit and you might just find yourself wondering which city you should go to? Rome, Florence, Venice, Pisa, Verona, Naples? The obvious answer, of course is to be all of them! But if you only have a short visit in mind I would narrow it down to two favorites, Rome or Venice, They are both excellent choices for a city break yet quite different. So here is a little comparison to help you out. If you´re looking for the romance factor then Venice is much more romantic but Rome has lovely areas to walk around at night time and

plenty of little restaurants for a sweet candle lit dinner. Venice on the other hand has over a hundred canals which make the city that extra bit magical, as there are no cars only boats it’s a lot quieter and you can even take a gondola ride down the canals just like in the movies. The truth is you can’t avoid history anywhere in Italy even if you tried. Both Rome and Venice have left their mark in the history books, just mostly in a different era to each other. Rome obviously has world famous Roman history and archaeology sites and it really is quite a weird feeling to look at the Coliseum and

think that this structure has been there for 2000 years. Rome also has the Vatican and the comprehensive Vatican Museum and the Sistine Chapel. Both places are a must see that you could keep busy for days. Venice has had its fair share of historical events and it was a major player in the medieval trade market serving as the hub between the east and the west, the Venetian Empire ruled the area and Venice was a wealthy city which can be seen in its architecture till today. There are gorgeous beautiful buildings like the St Mark’s Basilica and many more. The history of Venice is maybe a little less mind blowing compared to Rome but it’s a fascinating historic city nonetheless. So where ever you choose to visit in Italy you will not be let down.

London,

WHAT'S ON!

Your guide to a day out in London With so much to see and do in London it can be difficult to pick the best when you’re only visiting the great capital for a day. Restaurants, bars, theatres, shows, arts, music, shops are to name just a few of the things to see and do on your trip. Here we provide you with a comprehensive guide to help you plan and navigate your way around London and its amazing attractions.

Relaxation In London there are many unique hidden gems that not many people would think to visit on a day trip but if you are looking for a relaxing day or somewhere to stop and enjoy a spot of lunch then these are the places to visit.

Somerset House Somerset House is a major arts and cultural centre in the heart of London which is located next to the Victoria Embankment and easily accessible on foot and by train. During the summer months the 55 water fountains dance in the sunshine in the Edmond J Safra Fountain Court and in the winter you can skate on London´s most favoured ice rink in the Grand Courtyard. There are plenty of bars and restaurants where you can either dine outside in the main square or inside whilst enjoying a cappuccino. summer Film4 stages one of the best outdoor cinema experiences with a programme of movies for all tastes from cult classics to new releases. With so much going on and all in one place you won’t want to leave.

Education & Learning In a city full of so much history there is always something new to learn and the best place to do this is one of the many museums that can be found around London. There are many museums to visit all featuring their own wealth of information and extraordinary artifacts.

British Museum The British Museum is one of the oldest museums in the world, it is dedicated to human history and culture and with easy access from Tottenham Court Road underground station. It is vast and its collections are only a fraction of what can be on display at one given time, it illustrates and documents the story of human culture from its beginnings to present day. One of the many permanent exhibitions is the latest ´Enlightenment´ with around 5,000 objects you can discover the world from the period between mid eighteenth and early nineteenth century, a time of great discovery and learning. This is just a small section of what is on offer at this wondrous museum and the building itself is of such beauty and elegance. It is the perfect visit for an influential learning trip and the entry is free.

Theatre & Arts

Tourist Attractions

It’s a well known fact that if you want to see a musical or artistic show, then London’s West End is the place to visit. With around 40 (commercial) theatres alone in the West End area there are plenty of shows to choose from. Not only that but there is a number of renowned clubs and bars for that all time music experience.

It´s a given fact that when visiting London you have to visit some of the city´s most iconic and famous landmarks. Boasting of four world heritage sites and the ever so famous Thames River it will be hard to fit all the sightseeing in, in one day.

Globe Theatre Although the original Globe Theatre burned to the ground in 1613 nearly 400 years later, it was rebuilt not far from its original site and using construction materials as close to the originals as possible. Here they recreate some of Shakespeare’s masterpieces offering you a ´Shakespeare in Performance´ experience. The open air free standing yard is the best place to be for those looking for complete authenticity although no seating (and a test of your stamina) you really do feel transported back in time. As well as this the theatre also offers a fine exhibition into the history of the reconstruction, and the original theatre, alongside these intriguing facts there are elegantly displayed costumes dating back to the early production days, filmed video interviews and interactive touch screen exhibits. Visit a real piece of English history during your stay.

Buckingham Palace There is nothing more British than this iconic building. Home to the royal family, dating back to 1837, it is not always open to the public however during the summer you are able to visit this extraordinary building. Buckingham Palace is over 300 years old and has 775 rooms of which only 19 are available for viewing during the tours. Every day at 11am visitors are delighted with the Change of Guard that takes place in Friary Court. The symbolic handing over of the palace keys takes around 30 minutes and with drums, horses, the smartest of uniforms and full military formalities it is a true captivating moment for all those who have the pleasure of watching it.

- Grand Muthu Cayo Guillermo We´re Growing! Cuba has been under the control of other countries for quite some time, Spain, Great Britain the USA and others. A big turning point on Cuban history was in 1902, when the Spanish left the island pressured by the USA, and Cuba was finally a free country. In the years to come, Cuba evolved economically and socially, however the political scene at the time was very corrupt and this led to the Cuban Revolution, led by the Castro brothers, Fidel and Raúl, in 1953-9. Since then Cuba has been led by the Castro brothers as a socialist state by the Communist Party. From the revolution
