PROLOGUE

To me, art is a verb; it is the act of creating; it is transitional. During the past five years of architectural study, I gradually recognized the shortcomings of traditional architectural space which is static and unchanging. Influenced by The Poetics of Augmented Space by LEV MANOVICH a lot, I hope to build my understanding of human-space interaction from new perspectives and develop technology-inspired art form to connect a more intuitive relationship between human and art. My present works represent the transformation of my design thinking from architectural design to interactive design. I utilized different mediums as tools to complement my design work under different themes, thus gradually recognizing that media-inspired art form is a more intuitive approach to realize my concern for problems in each project. Through the process of switching between different software and media technologies, I extend my recognition of different types of projects, instead of being limited to one area. In the future, I have a strong willingness to learn more technical skills, to explore more possibilities of how technology-inspired architecture diversifies people’s experiences and contributes to humanity and our society.

01 SOLIDIFIED MELODY Art Museum Design

AR05013 - Architectural Design Ⅲ , Hunan University Architectural Design —— Academic Project From September,2018 to December,2018 Location: Changsha, Hunan Individual Work Instructor: Suqi Jiang

Instead of being static, but changing, rhythmic, diversified, architecture can also have the melody as music. A sonata usually consists of 3-4 movements with different styles and rhythms, giving the audience rich and various auditory effects. Likewise, space with different themes and rhythms can enrich people's experience and convey emotions. By choosing the moonlight sonata as a prototype, I have converted the four main melodies of the sonata to the formation of four facades of the museum. Walking along each path, people will experience different scales of space and browse the exhibits.

The first floor consists mainly of musical exhibitions, including portraits of musicians and musical instruments. The lobby contains pianos and temporary exhibitions of small sculptures.

Standing on the platform, you can see several arches of different scales and the light indicates where the exhibitions are placed. The glass-closed courtyard can also be seen in this view.

12

Arch is the spatial language that crosses the whole architecture. The space formed by arches of different scales is like a piece of music, with ups and downs, transition and consistency. In addition, people have different experience by walking through different scales of space, since the change of space and light brings different perceptions of space. It is also the most important point in this program: space with emotion.

02 CONFLICT&INTEGRATION Activation of US and Mexico Border

Border Workshop 2019, Hunan University Architectural and Urban Design —— Academic Project From July,2019 to Octobor,2019 Location: Laredo(US), Neuvo Laredo(Mexico) Individual Work Instructor: Hui Chen

With the construction of the border wall, the conflict between the United States and Mexico is increasing from day to day, as is the hostility between the two nationals. A theory called AGONISM by Chantal Mouffe states that in order to make a social change and free people, the conflict must be allowed where differences and opposition can be confronted. I have conceived an evolution of a new society on the border area where differences can be confronted and provided 5 phases for development. I have made a storyboard in which the functions and styles of the buildings are evolving, becoming diverse and tolerant; people have different goals to achieve at each stage. Finally, the two opposing groups will achieve integration.

03 WE-ACT STAGES Immersive Beijing Opera House

AR05014 - Architectural Design Ⅳ , Hunan University Interactive Architectural Design —— Academic Project From March,2019 to June,2019 Location: Changsha, Hunan Individual Work Instructor: Suqi Jiang

Beijing Opera is the essence of traditional Chinese culture, which has been passed down to the present day. However, with the development of modern technology, this traditional mode of performance is losing its audience. In the future, could the Beijing Opera integrate with modern technology to create an immersive performance space? At the Immersive Beijing Opera House, the public can learn the culture of the Beijing Opera from a variety of perspectives, including observing actors to act, checking historical information, sharing experiences with others through the We-Act app. In this way, interactions in reality and virtuality can be formed between actors, audiences and architectural space.

Since antiquity, there has been a clear border between the actors of the opera and the public during the show. To inherit the culture of Beijing Opera and make more people know, the future performance space of the Beijing Opera could be dynamic, interactive and immersive, increasing the experience of the public, helping them fully understand the Beijing Opera. .

04 NEOBREATHE Interactive Respirator

Wearable Device Design —— Personal Project From August,2020 to November,2020 Location: Shanghai Individual Work Instructor: Sirou Peng, Zee Leong

Recently, the COVID-19 pandemic has caused global social panic and economic disruption, and people are so vulnerable to the virus. We need to find an appropriate way to protect ourselves from the virus invasion, and take the initiative to fight the virus. In the future sci-fi scenario, I conceived a wearable device carried by the human body. People can store air, and the device can provide air status to people in real time. When the virus is detected, people could activate button and knob to release the disinfection solution. In this way, every individual can resist the virus, and mankind will unite like the terminators of the virus.

43

HISTORY : Development of Mask

If there is an object that symbolizes the coronavirus pandemic that affects the entire planet today, it is the mask. Thanks to the observation of the early scientists and doctors of the past, the mask has been created to protect us.

The Black Plague

High-tech Lab

Disposable Mask The general public worn masks to reduce the chance of spreading airborne diseases.

High-tech Mask Masks can protect the wearer from the virus while offering comfort and connection with people.

The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has caused global social and economic disruption, including the largest global recession since the Great Depression.

44

In each case, scientists have tried to identify viruses and develop vaccines to stop their spread. But it is always too late.Humans are always in a negative position against the virus. In the future, EVERY INDIVIDUAL COULD HAVE THE ABILITY TO TAKE THE INITIATIVE TO FIGHT THE VIRUS, rather than panic whenever the virus arrives.

The main theme of the work is derived from a story called Alice Wonderland, which is one of my favorite books and movies. I want to create a 3d scene with technical tools to convey the notion and emotion linked to history. I want to emphasize the meaning of time, so in the background, I put some clocks and gears to show that this is a world without time restriction. Therefore, everything from different times and spaces can gather here to enjoy their time like having afternoon tea with the mad hat. At the center of the image, a rabbit is playing a trumpet as it is the master of the wonderland and it is showing welcome to people who come here. In conclusion, it is a combination of characters, creatures and all the things we can imagine what a wonderland looks like.
