FRAMEWORK FOR AN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL The goal was to create a framework based o of an abstract spatial drawing and then implement a schoolrelated progam. The objectives were to divide space, designate program elements, and utilize tectonic methods.
4 // tectonics
A wooden tectonic framework was initially developed, in which a school-related program was later implemented. This project gave the opportunity for creativity in existing spaces, and how these spaces may be used dierently than we may have originally intended.

FORT ANCIENTFLOODPLAINMUSEUM The purpose for this interactive museum and learning center is to experience the flood plain through water’s journey throughout the building. One enters amongst the reflective pools and follows circulating water through the museum, learning about the history and importance of water in the flood plain along the way. The structure contains water features and waterfall walls to collect, circulate and use water to promote water conservation practices and instruction.
8 // environment
Designed with the intention of teaching people about the use of water in a floodplain, the museum utilizes rainwater for many purposes. Reflecting pools and interior rain walls circulate water, and underground cisterns store excess water for museum’s every day use.

SAN FRANCISOSUBWAY INSTALLATION Designed for a subway station in downtown San Francisco, this structure allows for seating above and creates a sense of enclosure for entering the space as it follows pedestrian movement down into the station below. = Group project
12 // ambience
This folding structure is designed to create an inviting space in which to enter the subway underground. Seating above creates greater opportunity for people to engage with the space.

SANCTUARY FOR SENIOR CITIZENS This community center for seniors was designed with the intention of being able to foster the interaction between familiar ideas and new experiences. The central space serves as a meeting space for seniors, and the circulation space above ďŹ lters light in around the building’s interior.
16 // health
A garden sanctuary substructure in the center of the building maintains a direct connection throughout the rest of the circulating spaces. The healing aspects of light and green space provide an inviting atmosphere for seniors to learn, connect, and grow.

SHELTER FOR EFFICIENT DISASTER RESPONSE This shelter has the ability to be placed into a stadium after any type of environmental disaster. Oftentimes after a devastating incident, people gather on the ďŹ eld of stadiums for easier distribution of goods and support. These shelters allow the seats, which make up the majority of space, to be utilized. This option also gives families privacy and a sense of comfort in this time of transition. = Group project

Designed to be put together quickly and without tools, these plywood pieces can be separately milled, numbered and bolted ahead of time, so that they can later be assembled quickly and eďŹƒciently with little instruction.

STRATEGIES TO INCREASE URBAN MOBILITY The aim of this project was to look at some overlooked areas along Reading Road in Cincinnati and to increase access for pedestrian and bicycle travel. Bicycle sharing systems and a network of bike paths, ramps, and plazas give everyone opportunites for new experiences and encourage local social interaction. By following a series of paths people have carved into the landscape over time we can begin to discover a smaller network of movement patterns and learn from these in order to create more ways for people to explore the world around them.
24 // renewal
Strategies such as bike paths, lightrail transit and bikeaccessibility create opportunities for innovative and diverse public spaces, while encouraging people to be active in exploring the places around them.
By utilizing paths that people have carved over time a pattern of movement emerges from which we can make more accessible public spaces.

GROCERY STORE TO RECONNECTCOMMUNITIES The urban grocery store has the unique opportunity to become an essential part of the community it is designed for. A connection board inside helps neighbors to stay connected with one another. Community space above provides them with a location to meet, giving them the ability to utilize the store however they choose. Designed for needs to constantly be changing, the community space has the abiility to transform spacially on the interior to suit management and community needs simultaneously. This grocery store becomes a part of the urban fabric, allowing people and businesses to gain an in depth view of locality.

THE MOVING CITY
This whimsical city was designed to address ways in which cities can move, change and grow quickly and constantly. Bicycles and zip lines form the main mode of transportaion. Retail consists of food trucks and other portable businesses, keeping the city in a constant state of change. Community space is everywhere, with residentail areas consisting of tents, trucks and houses built from naturallygrowing materials. This provides a lack of permanence that keeps city life in an everevolving loop.

TREEHOUSES INSPIRED BY NATURE These drawings come from my work with Pete Nelson at Nelson Treehouse and Supply in Fall City, Washington. His designs have been implemented world-wide, and I assisted with turning several of his treehouse sketches into construction documents for clients to purchase online.
