YEAR IN CDT
My Profile
Hi my name is Imogen Allen and I am 13 years old. I live with my two sisters Maya (who is 16 and is in 5th year) and Livvy (who is 9). Also I live with my brother Seth and my two parents (Gaynor and David). My hobbies are dancing and basketball. In school my favourite subject is art, I also like drawing out of school.
This is the metal practice piece that we did at the start of 1st year, we did it before we went on to make the coat-hook. We used all of the same skills for this piece but it was for many of us our first time working with metal.
METAL COAT-HOOK
This is the metal piece that we made, after we had constructed it all and drilled the pieces together we coated it all in a special type of paint to give a smooth finish.
DICE These are the two dice that we made. One was done on the computer and the other was done by hand. We used cutting tools and craft knifes to cut them both out.
WOOD PRACTICE PIECE
This is the wood practice piece we made before we did our wood block and made the trinket box. We learnt how to use many tools including the saw, and the chisel.
This is the wooden trinket box that we made, it took us ten weeks. We used two different pieces of wood and cut a shape out of one of them for the lid, then we glued them back together and sanded them down. We cut the curved shape out to make the base and the lid and after we put in inserts to make it fit on without sliding off, in the end we sanded it all down.
TRINKET BOX
EVALUATION Did you enjoy CDT? I have really enjoyed my 1st year time in CDT, I have learned lots of new skills which I am ready to take onto my 2nd year. Do you feel more confident in CDT? I now feel more confident in CDT as I have learned new skills and know how to be safe. What would you of done to get different grades in CDT? If I wanted to improve my grade for CDT I would try to finish of my pieces better like for my box, rounding the edges and sanding it down. Do you enjoy the type of work covered in CDT? Yes, my favourite thing that I have done is the trinket box because I found it a little bi t of a challenge but not too hard that I couldn’t do it. Also you could customize it too so that it was a little bit personnel. I didn’t enjoy making the metal piece as much because the noise of working with it irritated my ears. What are your Future plans in CDT? I don’t know if I shall continue the subject in the future because I am not very good and it isn't my favourite but I shall go on to do it in s2 and I am sure I will enjoy that and do many more topics.
