My S2 CDT
By Karen McGuire
Pupil Profile My name is Karen McGuire and I’m 14 years old. I live with my mum, dad and sister Jen who is in 4th year. In school I enjoy CDT, PE and Home Economics. The subjects I don’t like are English, Computing and Business. At the weekend I either go out with my friends and have sleepovers or go to Hibs games with my dad and sister.
My Clock Project This is my clock project that I made earlier in S2. We used hardwood to make the frame of the clock. We then filled the plastic until it was smooth and it fitted into the frame of the clock. To make the plastic base we had to file that as well, and then to make it curve we used a strip heater. Finally we put the clock hands on and inserted a battery to make it work.
My Dice Project This is my poster I made about how I created the dices.
My Water Bottle Project This is my finished water bottle project. We used Pastel, Pencil, Computer and Marker to render each one.
My Rocket Project This is my rocket porter I designed on Photoshop. We then made the real model in the graphic communication room and when finished, launched them in the school grass area.
My Desktidy Project This is my Desktidy that I made in S2. We had to make it using a 300mm piece of wood that we got to style in our own way. We sanded it and once it was completely sanded we had to wet and dry it and varnish it about 3 times.
Evaluation I really enjoyed CDT. My favourite part in S2 CDT was launching
the rockets outside because mine went quite high. I feel way more confident in the workshop now than I did in S1 because I used to never was to use any of the machines but in S2 I did. To improve my grades in CDT I could of spent more time sanding my wood projects. I really enjoyed the type of work we do in CDT because its always fun. The hardest project was the clock project because it was hard trying to fit the plastic into the clock shape and fitting the battery in. I liked working in the workshop and the graphic communication room but I preferred the workshop because I don’t really like working with computers.
