This is my practice piece. It was the first practical piece of work that we did in S1. We made it to practice all the different types of joints and how to use the different tools properly.
This is my trinket box. I gave it to my Mum as a Christmas present. We used lots of different tools and techniques to make it. Mr Shaw carved in the letters when we had finished the box. We then varnished it.
This is my coat hook. We made this in the metalwork department after we had finished our trinket boxes. When we had finished the coat hook we dipped it in a plastic coating to turn it black. I found this quite hard to make because there are so many different techniques and tools to use. The hardest part was probably the measuring.
This is my bridge. I built it with Niamh. First of all we had to design a certain bridge making it as cheap as possible. Then we built it using leftover wood and tested it’s strength by hanging weights off it. Afterwards we tried to stand on it to see if it would take our weight.

We drew this using the drawing tables, a protractor and a ruler.
We drew this using the same technique as the one before. Except, we didn’t need a protractor.
We drew this using the drawing tables, a protractor and a ruler.
We drew this using isometric paper. We tried to copy the blocks put in front of us.
Did you enjoy CDT this year? Yes, I really enjoyed CDT this year. I learned lots of new drawing techniques and how to handle different equipment properly. Do you feel more confident in CDT now? Yes, I think I am a lot more used to the equipment and I can do more work by myself. What could you have done differently this year to be more successful? I think I could have tried to be more independent and do more work by myself. Did you enjoy the type of work covered in CDT? Yes, I enjoyed most of the work covered in CDT. Occasionally I found it a little bit boring though. What do you plan on doing in CDT next year? I plan on working harder and concentrating more. I also hope to be more independent.
