MHEG Names Yurek as Director of Government Affairs Midwest Housing Equity Group, Inc. (MHEG) announces the appointment of Joshua Yurek as Director of Government Affairs. Yurek will report to John Wiechmann, MHEG CEO/President, and oversee MHEG’s federal and state policy agenda. He will travel to Washington D.C. and throughout the MHEG footprint to educate and advocate for affordable housing resources. “We are very excited to have Joshua join our team. The demand for quality affordable housing far exceeds available supply,” said John Wiechmann, CEO/President of MHEG. “At the same time, affordable housing resources and financing opportunities continue to be reduced. Joshua’s experience and policy expertise will help ensure that the people we serve continue to have access to safe, decent and affordable homes.” Yurek comes to MHEG with over ten years of Congressional work experience. He most recently served as a Senior Policy Advisor for Senator Pat Roberts (R-Kansas). In this role, Yurek provided strategic recommendations on a wide array of policy issues including appropriations, financial services, housing, and tax issues. He worked extensively with the Senate Finance Committee, which has jurisdiction over vital affordable housing tools, including housing tax credits. He represented the Senator to negotiate significant policy reforms involving affordable housing, rural housing, and the most recent tax reform debate last year. Yurek holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science from Rockhurst University and a MBA from Indiana University, Kelley School of Business. “After a decade working in Washington for my home-state Senator, it’s great to finally get back to the Midwest. I am excited to join such a dynamic, successful team here at MHEG,” said Yurek. “Access to affordable housing is critical to the future success of our communities. Yet, despite many achievements over the past several years, we still have more work to do. I look forward to leveraging my years of experience on Capitol Hill at MHEG to provide effective and efficient affordable housing solutions for communities across the Midwest.” MHEG, a non-profit organization created in 1993, helps finance affordable housing throughout the Midwest. Its mission is to change lives for a better tomorrow by promoting the development and sustainability of quality affordable housing. In addition to raising capital to invest in affordable housing developments, the MHEG team provides technical assistance to developers, owners and management companies on the development and management of Housing Credit properties. To date, MHEG has deployed over $1.7 billion of equity into more than 500 developments throughout the Midwest, helping finance 16,000 units of quality affordable housing.
