PUBLIC LIBRARY

General Information

The main focus of this project is to bring life back to libraries by focusing on community activities. Landscape functions, like community garden, lake pathway and tree museum, functions inside the library were added e.g an open activity space with an extension and a community debate space.

What is the Problem

?

Jeddah lacks a public library with full needs. Most people use libraries as a place to visit for certain. A dedicated public library with activities and spaces encouraging people to visit will help improve the level of knowledge.

Library

Hi

Who are affected by the problem?

Users who are looking to read more, socialize and exchange knowledge through public activities or community spaces.

Why is it a Problem?

Due to libraries with no events, public spaces or community activities people tend to lose their interest in visiting libraries, reading or socializing in that matter.

FALASTIN STREET URBAN DESIGN

General Information

In this project we focused on revitalize selected urban corridors/streets/paths, injecting life back to these spaces. This aim can be attained by dealing with streets as places rather than as movement paths. and that’s the main problem in Falastin St. even after last development in 2013.

Type: Academic Project. 12 Weeks. Al-Arbaen Lake, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Duration: 1.3 km Length: Arterial Classification:

Street Description

Falastin street is an arterial street, which plays a role as a commercial street and a linkage between Al-Andalus road and King Fahad Fountain.

Social Media Survey

Social media survey on open spaces on 3 different social media applications, twitter, facebook and instagram by using brand24 social media anayltical tool.

Keywords: Garden, Open spaces, Park

Problem Statement

Falastin road’s main issue in increased density is there are low densities in the center, no public spaces to improve the social aspect, no vocal points to encourage the user to explore and experience the place and there is only one main interest, the king fahad fountain at the edge of the path.

Falastin Road Land Value

The current value of the street are in the two ends which is wrong because it increases the density on the ends and act as traffic genrators for less uses.

The current value of the site is based on the two ends of the street and when trying to check the value. Optimum solution is increasing the heights in the center.

Holestic Approach

The main node acts as attractor points in the middle which is the largest open public space in the site other the Corniche node this helps attract people from both sides, from Al-Andalus and Corniche road.

Building Heights

This increases the value of the site in the center due to corniche and felestain roads are main and important roads and have high density and value, that’s why when increasing the height in the middle helps grab some of the value by density.

Street Uses

The regulation of the street is a commercial street and the new uses are hospitality, offices, clinics, and retail shops eaither resturants or shops.

Brand Connections

The same scenario applied to the site for the squares and their connection with branding these helped shape the shade and the landscape and the movement of the both side for pedestrians.

Isovist

This increases the value of the site in the center due to corniche and felestain roads are main and important roads and have high density and value, that’s why when increasing the height in the middle helps grab some of the value by density.

Isovist helped with the final landscape either helped achieve the goals of the landscape. Also it is the set of all points visible from a given vantage point in space. The shape and size of an isovist is liable to change with position.

Isovist assisted with the final landscape either hard scape or soft scape and these help achieves the goals of the landscape.

Node Density

Node study have been done by using snapchat maps over 20 days including weekends to show the density in falastin road by snapchat heatmap and overlaping them to locate nodes and sub-nodes of falastin road.

027

Guidelines Heights

1 Site is divided into 5 main zones, each zone has a percentage of open spaces ratio to lot, the center has %30 of open spaces, next is %20 of open spaces and the edge of falastin road is%10 with exception for the corniche edge with %15 of open space due to the high density.

Open Spaces

2 Open spaces can be distributed on either the roof of the building, roof of the podium or the block depending on the zone

3 Building heights are subjected to a 1:1 ratio (38 meter) to maintain new urbnaism ratio and provide shade, to achieve more height a setback is mandatory or there are clearance more than 38 meters.

MUSEUM OF

RWAAT AL-HADITH

General Information

The design of Al-Hadith Narrators museum is based on in-depth analysis of the proccess of collecting and investigating Al-Hadith Al-Sharif, thanks to the effort of the narratorts as well as the Al-Jarh and Al-Tadeel specialists

Group Work

Type: Architecture Competition.

2 Weeks. Al-Madinah Al-Monwrah, Saudi Arabia. Duration: 21,200 m2 Area: Location:

054

What is the Problem?

Museums are usually located in the center of the cities due to the easing accessibility for museum visitors, yet in this case Rwaat Al-Hadith museum is far from the city center thus it is an opportunity to be considered as an essential seed for the next city urban context development.

CITY TOWN MUSEUM

Concept

Adopting the concept of companions around Prophet Mohammed, shared facilities are organized around an atrium dominating the ground floor plan, whereas exhibition spaces are organized in a more pure mass reflecting the solidarity of Al-Hadith due to the effort of the narrators.

Concept Process Building Uses

01. The heart of the mass represents the prophency beacon and the connection to the sky.

02. Cubes are aligned to represent the companions of the Prophet Mohammed, providing the grid on which the plans can be organized.

03. Ground floor cubes are organized around the central atrium in three layers; representing Al-Sahaba, Al-Tabeen and Tabeen Al-Tabeen.

04. Modern code, being manifested in a pure mass, represents Al-Hadith after Al-Jarh and Al-Tadeel process. Traditional code represents the urban fabric of the traditional city.

Sustainability

The world is now aware of the reckless exploitation of natural resources and is now consciously trying to move towards a sustainable future. Within this endeavor, it has become very important to think about intelligent solutions to building materials and to mitigate traditional solutions. Freight containers are one of the best quality construction solutions that can be easily recycled and are available globally as there are nearly two million unused containers in ports around the world. We would like to use them so that they help make the project more efficient in terms of sustainable sources.
