11:00am Today’s Automation for the Jobshop World

Presented by: Christopher Robson, Advanced Applications Engineering Specialist, Concept Machine Tool. Too often I hear that job shops cannot automate or make use of automation because they never know what they are going to do next. This seminar will provide detailed examples of automation being used in the job shop environment and teach the attendees of the seminar how to make the best use of automation to be flexible and gain vital manufacturing hours that get left out when employees head home for the day. Bring a note pad and learn some creative ideas to help you become more competitive and bring more work into your shop.

Christopher Robson: I live in Butler Wisconsin with my wife Dawn of 19 years and my two daughters Lauryn and Abby. Milwaukee born and raised I started my machine tool career in 1997 working for a machine shop. Throughout the years advancing into applications engineering and machine tool service. Today I proudly work for Concept Machine Tool (a local Wisconsin machine tool distributor and integrator) as an Advanced Applications Engineering specialist, specializing in automation, controls PLCs, custom HMI applications and difficult manufacturing applications. The machine tool business is more like a hobby to me. In my spare time I develop custom machine tool and peripheral device interfaces, training documentation, windows and machine tool software.

Vivek began his 23-year career with Siemens after completing his Production Systems Engineering Master’s Degree Esslingen, Germany. In his current role as head of machine tool digitalization, Vivek is responsible for a comprehensive portfolio of manufacturing-related software including Edge-based, factory-level and Cloud-based applications, which are used in various industries such as shopfloor manufacturing and machine building, as well as aerospace and automotive part production.

Presented by: Morris MW w/ Arie Thompson, Gosiger Automation The intent of this seminar will be to talk shop with the group and explain the challenges that most machine shops are facing today with resources. We will also touch on the following points: 1. How automation helps make local manufacturing globally competitive 2. Overcoming labor resource challenges with simple automation 3. Identifying a simple automation project 4. Understanding ROI for simple automation

Arie Thompson is the Director of Sales for Gosiger Automation LLC and Automation Within Reach. Gosiger Automation is a custom solution builder of automation servicing a wide spectrum of manufacturers while Automation Within Reach provides standard “out of the box” type automation solutions for the machining industry. These solutions enable manufacturers to reduce their time from order to fulfillment with significant efficiency gains while making local manufacturers globally competitive. These solutions are utilized daily by customers ranging from the small four person job shop to global OEM’s. Before becoming the Director of Sales, Arie served Gosiger Automation in various engineering and sales capacities assisting in growing sales by providing productive solutions to manufacturers across the country. In addition to his professional work, Arie is also a husband and father of two young boys. In his spare time Arie can be found BBQing watching sports or partaking in various outdoors activities such as sports, hunting and off-roading.

Neil has been with Mazak for 34 years as an Application Engineer and software developer. Neil is Mazak’s representative at the MTConnect Institute where he chairs the Machine Tool Working Group as well as sit on the Executive Committee. He was directly involved with the creation of the “Mazak SmartBox”, a project co-developed with Cisco for managed machine connectivity. He regularly helps customers begin their journey into the connected factory.
