Mia Dvorak Biography

Page 1

Biography Mia Dvorak was born in 1957 in Prague, Czech Republic, where she started as a child, under the encouragement and care of the family, her artistic growth attending Prof. Vera Roeselova’s famous art-school. For many years, her parents were persecuted and imprisoned by the communist government of Czechoslovakia; these facts marked her life until the fall of the regime in 1989. Until then, she had never been able to leave the country and be known abroad. Since 1999, she has lived with her family in Italy in Manta in the province of Cuneo. She has many different artistic qualities. She joins her skills in textile arts to her mastery of the techniques of painting, sculpture, graphic art and portrait. She is internationally known for her needle laces and bobbins accompanied by dyeing and painting on silk, cotton and linen: qualities that make them unique. Worldwide, she is one of the last masters able to design and produce models with the difficult, and extremely rare, Bohemian needle lace. Her free artistic research, inspired by nature, music and poetry, is continuous. From the harmonic combination of sculpture and painting with the ancient art of lace, the macramé, the tapestry, embroidery and dyeing, she creates works of art, sophisticated and modern designs, fiber-art creations with recycled materials, oil and acrylic paintings, in which it is easy to find silk, lace, pottery, glass, wood, leather and wrought iron. She creates, for fashion, unique jewellery, accessories and exclusive wedding dresses; she transforms shoes, designs handbags, decorates and dyes jeans, jackets and clothes in natural fabrics. These things result in a new and ever-changing form of expression, which Mia likes to call antistress-art. Since 2009 she has started a special free long term project of textile and art teaching for the elementary schools of Manta (CN). The aim is the direct learning of artistic techniques and textile design, through a "direct" method of teaching which accompanies the student, from the creative idea, through the design of a model and its full realization. Since 2010 she has started the “M.Art Club” and the “Textil Art and Design” school for children.
