History of Brand
Gap was founded in 1969 in San Francisco by husband and wife Doris and Don Fisher. Donald wanted to open up a chain of stores that attracted the young generation and offered apparel that was cheap, comfortable, and durable. The first store was strategically opened in Ocean Avenue, San Francisco close to San Francisco University. Don also was strategic about placing records throughout the stores and painting them lively so customers would have more of an experience as they shopped. This brought on great success as they had revenue of $2.5 million within the first two years of opening. Gap was able to achieve a strong brand image and by 1976 reached over $100 million in sales. They quickly expanded to have 180 stores in 21 different states. Gaps focus was to provide a limited assortment of product variety while offering a great assortment of colors and sizes by a variety of popular brands, however in the 1980’s they began to offer the Gap clothing line which later became their main offering. By 1987 Gap had reached over $1 billion in sales and had 950 stores across the country. Their subsidiary brands Banana Republic, Gap Kids, and Old Navy were all very successful and widened their consumer outreach. Gap Inc. became one of the most profitable retailers by 2008 with more than 3,050 stores with 130,000 employees, and today there are Gap stores in more than 50 countries worldwide.

Uniqlo is its closet competitor in due to their offering of Private Label timeless basics like Gap. H and M also offers basics and has a competitive advantge due to their trendy offerings at very low prices. American Eagle offers the same casual laid back style, however their overall consumer is much younger then gap.

The Budget for this event is $300,000 There will be Live entertainment from the band Haim. Everyone will recieve a swag bag and a 20% discount off the collection. The event will feature art work featuring Gaps logo created by selected artists from around the country. Selected pieces from the collection will be on display. Cocktails and light fare would be provided. The event will be from 7pm-11pm.
