A LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS Whether it’s succeeding on the field, excelling in the classroom or reaching out in the community, the Hurricanes continue to Build Champions. We just wrapped up another remarkable 2016-17 season for Miami Athletics on multiple fronts. I couldn’t be prouder of our student-athletes, coaches and support staff, and I couldn’t be more thankful to our donors, alumni and fans for making it all possible. Miami produced two individual national champions this past season in David Dinsmore (men’s diving 10-meter platform) and Shakima Wimbley (women’s indoor track and field 400m). David was the 13th UM diver to win a national championship under head coach Randy Ableman, while nine Hurricanes have now captured 14 national championships under head coach Amy Deem – whose women’s track and field team also defended its ACC Indoor Championship in 2017. Mark Richt led our football team to a 9-4 record in his first season as head coach, as the Hurricanes ended the year on a five-game winning streak, capped by our first bowl win in 10 years. Miami finished the season ranked in both polls for the first time since 2009. The energy and enthusiasm that Coach Richt has brought to the program is not only evident on the field, but in the stands as well. Miami boasted the largest percentage increase among FBS programs last season, and ticket sales continue to rise as we look ahead to the 2017 season. Both of our men’s and women’s basketball teams advanced to the NCAA Tournament last season. Jim Larrañaga’s squad has now made the tournament in three of the past five seasons, and welcomes one of the nation’s top recruiting classes to Coral Gables this fall. Katie Meier, who recently earned a three-year contract extension, has led the Hurricanes to the tournament in six of the past seven seasons. There were plenty of other notable accomplishments during the year. Junior diver Briadam Herrera was national runner-up in the men’s 3-meter springboard. Shakima finished second in the outdoor 400m, just missing out on a second national title. Freshman tennis sensation Estela Perez-Somarriba advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA Women’s Tennis Championships. Our women’s golf team qualified for the NCAA Championships for the second year in a row, and posted its best finish since 1992. Our student-athletes continue to excel off the field as well. Ten Miami teams were recently recognized for perfect 2015-16 scores of 1,000 in the NCAA’s latest Academic Progress Report (APR), while three teams (men’s cross country, golf and women’s tennis) were recognized for perfect multi-year APR scores. In addition, our student-athlete community outreach program earned a No. 3 ranking in the NCAA Team Works Helper Helper Community Service Competition. It was a record year for the Hurricane Club, highlighted by all-time marks in annual giving, membership and capital projects. The Hurricane Club raised $49 million in cash and commitments in 2016-17, an increase of more than 80 percent from the previous record of $26.5 million, set in 2010-11. In May, we broke ground on the Carol Soffer Football Indoor Practice Facility, which will be one of the finest athletic facilities in all of college sports. The Soffer Family’s lead gift of $14 million towards the facility marked the largest single gift in the history of Miami Athletics. Thank you to everyone who has invested in Miami Athletics over the past year. Your generosity has helped our student-athletes succeed in the classroom, in competition -- and in life. We are looking forward to the start of another memorable season this fall.

A LOOK BACK AT 2016-17 Sept. 22 - For the third time in the last five years and the fourth time in program history, women’s soccer defeated a top-three opponent, as it knocked off No. 2 Virginia, 2-1, at home.

Oct. 2 - Football became the highest ranked team in the state of Florida, as it earned a No. 10 ranking in both the Associated Press and Coaches Polls following its win over Georgia Tech.
Sept. 3 - Football opened the year with a 70-3 win over Florida A&M to hand Mark Richt his first win as the head coach of the Hurricanes.
Sept. 23 - Miami announced the largest gift in the history of the Department of Athletics, as the Soffer Family donated $14 million to the Carol Soffer Football Indoor Practice Facility.

Oct. 23 - Behind a pair of goals from Gracie Lachowecki, the women’s soccer team registered a 2-1 comeback win in double overtime against No. 25 Virginia Tech to clinch a berth in the ACC Championship.

Dec. 28 - Men’s basketball wrapped up its 2016 nonconference slate with a perfect record at home following its 78-67 win over Columbia. Miami finished the year with a 14-2 record at the Watsco Center. Dec. 28 - Football captured its first bowl win in 10 years as it defeated West Virginia, 31-14, in the Russell Athletic Bowl.
Feb. 25 - The women’s track and field team won its second straight ACC Indoor Championship. The Hurricanes scored 113 points to claim their fourth indoor league title under head coach Amy Deem.

March 12 - Miami fans jammed into the Rathskeller for the men’s basketball team’s NCAA watch party. Miami punched its ticket to the Big Dance for the third time under Coach L.
April 29 - Football had nine former players selected in the 2017 NFL Draft in Philadelphia. The nine Hurricanes chosen in the draft were the most since Miami had nine players selected in 2006.
May 27 - Women’s tennis freshman Estela PerezSomarriba defeated Kate Fahey of Michigan, and became the first freshman in UM history to make the Final Four of the NCAA Singles Championship. June 13 - The track and field program had 11 All-America honors bestowed upon seven student-athletes for their performances at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

HURRICANE CLUB POSTS RECORD BREAKING YEAR With an unprecedented outpouring of support from University of Miami fans and donors, 2016-17 was a record-setting year for the Hurricane Club highlighted by all-time marks in annual giving, membership and capital projects. The Hurricane Club raised $49 million in cash and commitments in 2016-17, an all-time record and an increase of more than 80 percent from the previous record of $26.5 million, set in 2010-11. “I want to thank all of those who have invested in our students,” Director of Athletics Blake James said. “We are continuing to Build Champions in the classroom, in competition and in life. The generosity of our passionate supporters is invested into enhancing the student-athlete experience and ensuring that we provide our young men and women with the very best resources to be successful.” The $49 million raised was highlighted by three capital projects: the Carol Soffer Football Indoor Practice Facility, the Isadore Hecht Athletic Center renovation project and the Basketball Victory Fund. The official groundbreaking ceremony for the Carol Soffer Football Indoor Practice Facility was held in early May at the future site of the building, expected to open in fall of 2018. The Soffer Family’s lead gift of $14 million towards the indoor football facility, announced in fall of 2016, marked the largest single gift in the history of Miami Athletics. The Hecht Athletic Center, which reopened its front doors in May, underwent a $1 million transformation to the outside entrance and interior of the main lobby. Through the Basketball Victory Fund, a $1.7 million renovation project provided upgrades and updates to the men’s and women’s basketball locker rooms, coaches’ offices and branding installations throughout the Watsco Center. Including the Soffers’ pledge towards the indoor facility, there were seven gifts of $1 million or more in 2016-17, another Hurricane Club record. The Hurricane Club’s membership of more than 11,000 members represents an over 100-percent jump from its membership of 5,140 in 2010. In addition, the $14.3 million raised for the Annual Fund represents an increase of 16.2 percent from the previous total of $12.3 million, and an increase of over 52 percent from its 2010 total of $9.3 million. “Without the passion and generosity of our supporters, none of this would have been possible,” Senior Associate Athletics Director for Development Jesse Marks said. “We designed a plan in 2010 based upon a vision of sustaining excellence for our student-athletes in all areas of their experience at UM. Our growth as a philanthropic organization, both locally and nationally, is a testament to all who invest their resources into our program and believe in Building Champions at The U.”

· The Miami Hurricanes finished the 2017 season with a 31-27 record and a 16-13 mark in ACC play. · Miami ended the year sixth overall in the ACC and third in the ACC’s Coastal Division. · The Hurricanes won their pool at the 2017 ACC Championship in Louisville, Ky., advancing to the semifinals with wins over Georgia Tech and Wake Forest. · Junior lefthander Jeb Bargfeldt was named to the All-ACC Second Team after ending the season with a 7-3 record and a 2.28 ERA across 15 starts. · Sophomore Romy Gonzalez had a breakout year at the plate, leading the Hurricanes in home runs (11), RBI (38), slugging percentage (.462) and extra-base hits (21). · Two Hurricanes were selected in the 2017 MLB Draft; junior outfielder Carl Chester was drafted in the 12th round by Tampa Bay and junior righthander Jesse Lepore was drafted in the 24th round by Colorado.
MEN’S BASKETBALL WOMEN’S BASKETBALL CROSS COUNTRY • For the second straight season, Miami sold out its • Led by 2017 UM Sports Hall of Fame inductee Katie season ticket allotment for all home games at the Watsco Center. • Miami played in back-to-back NCAA Tournaments for the first time since going to three straight from 1997-98 to 1999-2000. • The Hurricanes were one of two (Georgia Tech) unranked teams to defeat eventual national champion North Carolina. • Miami defeated three ranked teams, downing No. 9/6 North Carolina, No. 10/11 Duke in Coral Gables and No. 18/19 Virginia on the road. This was the third straight year and the fifth time in Coach L’s six seasons that the Canes have defeated two top 15 teams. • After receiving votes in at least one poll each of the first 16 weeks, Miami entered the national rankings for the first time in the 2016-17 season at No. 25 in both the AP and USA TODAY Coaches Poll on Feb. 27. • Jim Larrañaga and his staff signed three ESPN Top 100 players for the 2017 class in McDonald’s All-American and Jordan Brand Classic All-American guard Lonnie Walker (No. 12) and Jordan Brand Classic Regional Team honorees guard Chris Lykes (46) and forward Deng Gak (92). • Senior Davon Reed was named Third Team All-ACC and to the All-ACC Defensive Team. Reed was the recipient of the ACC’s 2017 Skip Prosser Award. Reed was also named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team, the NABC Honors Court, All-ACC Academic Men’s Basketball Team, was an ACC Postgraduate Scholarship honoree, and was a candidate for the Senior CLASS Award and Allstate NABC Good Works Team. • Reed would go on to be selected in the second round (32nd overall) of the NBA Draft by the Phoenix Suns. • Freshman Bruce Brown was named to the All-ACC Academic Team. • Coach Larrañaga recorded his 600th career win on Jan. 14 at Pitt. With 600 wins, he is one of five active ACC coaches with 600 victories, and the other four men are in the Basketball Hall of Fame.

Meier, the Hurricanes made the postseason for the eighth year in a row, played in the NCAA Tournament for the sixth time in seven years, won 20-plus games for the seventh time in eight seasons and played host the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1993. • Miami ranked in the top 25 of both major polls all season, peaking at No. 11. The Hurricanes tied for the fifth-most wins in program history with 24, beat four top-25 opponents for the first time since 2010-11, downing two top-10 teams and defeated three ranked teams away from home for the first time in the ACC era (since 2004-05). • For the second time in program history, Miami had three 1,000-point scorers on the same team in Keyona Hayes, Adrienne Motley and Jessica Thomas, a group that became the first Hurricane trio to sign WNBA contracts in the same year, with Motley being selected No. 32 in the WNBA Draft. • Motley was a Senior CLASS Award finalist. In addition, Motley and Thomas garnered Second Team All-ACC distinction, Hayes received ACC All-Tournament Second Team honors and Khaila Prather garnered an Allstate Good Works Team nomination. • Three Hurricanes (Thomas, Laura Cornelius and Emese Hof) were All-ACC Academic Team picks for the first time. • The Hurricanes, who set a program ACC record with 100 points in a win over North Carolina and had both their overall and student attendance records broken during the season, defeated Florida State, seeded second and ranked No. 8/12 in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals for the second year in a row.
• Five men and five women represented Miami at the NCAA South Regional, giving the Hurricanes 10 entries in the postseason regional meet. • The Hurricane men’s and women’s teams each finished 15th at the ACC Cross Country Championships. • Sean Grossman set a school record in the men’s 8-kilometer at the ACC Championships and ran the sixth-fastest men’s 10k time in school history at the NCAA South Regional. • Gabrielle Hesslau was Miami’s top women’s finisher in all seven races in 2016, winning the FAU Invitational for the third straight year. The senior ran a personal-best time of 21:18.20 in the 6K at the NCAA South Regional that ranks third in school history. She ended her career ranked fourth in school history in 5K with time of 17:54.22. • Miami’s men’s and women’s teams were both named USTFCCCA All-Academic and senior Megan Brown was tapped into the Iron Arrow Honor Society.

FOOTBALL
• The Hurricanes finished the 2016 season with a 9-4 record. Miami won its final five games of the season, including the Russell Athletic Bowl in Orlando. • Miami’s win over West Virginia in the Russell Athletic Bowl was its first bowl win in 10 years. • Miami’s appearance in the Russell Athletic Bowl marked the 40th time the Hurricanes have competed in a bowl game. • Miami’s appearance in the Russell Athletic Bowl also marked the fourth-consecutive season in which it has competed in the postseason. • Miami head coach Mark Richt collected his 10th career bowl win in his first season with the Hurricanes. • Quarterback Brad Kaaya became the Hurricanes all-time leading passer as he finished his career with 9,968 passing yards. • Following the season, 10 Hurricanes received all-conference recogition from the ACC. • Wide reciever Ahmmon Richards was a unanimous freshman All-American after he broke Michael Irvin’s single season rookie receiving record, finishing with 934 yards. • Miami had nine players selected in the 2017 NFL Draft. Tight end David Njoku was selected by the Cleveland Browns in the first round. The Hurricanes have had at least one player chosen in the first round of the NFL Draft in each of the past three years.

• The Miami women’s golf team earned its second straight trip to the NCAA Championship - its 25th trip to the national tournament in program history. • The Hurricanes closed out the year by finishing 16th in the NCAA Championship. • The Hurricanes posted 10 top five finishes during the year. Miami also won a pair of tournaments in 2016-17. • Miami closed the year ranked No. 17 in the Golfstat.com poll. The Hurricanes were ranked as high as No. 10 in the poll during the year. • Miami posted its best-ever finish at the ACC Championship, as it placed third. • Sophomore Dewi Weber earned WGCA Second-Team All-America honors. • Weber finished the year by averaging a team-best scoring average of 71.9 strokes per round. She also placed in the top 15 in nine events. • Freshman Renate Grimstad posted three top 10 finishes on the year, including an eighthplace performance at the NCAA Regional Championships. • Miami tallied a tournament-best 39 birdies at the NCAA Regional Championship. • Miami also was successful in the classroom, as Weber and freshman Filippa Möörk and Grimstad were each selected as 2016-17 Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholars. Senior Delfina Acosta, Weber, Möörk and Grimstad were also chosen to the All-ACC Academic Team.

• Miami’s varsity eight won the Petite Final at the ACC Rowing Championships, leading the team to a ninth-place finish at the conference regatta. Team captain Taegan Lynch was named Second Team All-ACC. • The Hurricanes had three student-athletes named CRCA National Scholar-Athletes: junior Alexa Aguilar, junior Taegan Lynch and sophomore Lily Wittle. • Miami’s varsity eight swept the Knecht Cup, winning the grand final at the prestigious regatta and earning ACC Crew of the Week honors. • Miami’s varsity eight swept its two races at the 2017 Governor’s Cup. The Hurricanes also competed at the Head of the Charles and Head of the Indian Creek during the 2016-17 season. • Miami rowing alumna Aisha Chow represented Trinidad and Tobago at the 2016 Olympics in Brazil.

• Miami finished the season with a 10-81 record, tying for the third-most wins in program history and set a school record for conference victories by posting a 5-5-0 mark en route to reaching the ACC Championship. • The Hurricanes won three straight ACC matches for the first time and tallied multiple top-25 victories for the first time since 2012. Miami also set program records for fewest goals against (16) and lowest goals against average (0.82) with Phallon Tullis-Joyce also setting individual records for her marks in those categories. • Gracie Lachowecki earned First Team All-ACC and NSCAA Second Team All-Southeast Region honors, as she scored a team-high 11 goals to help Miami tie its record for home victories in a season (eight) and win five consecutive home matches for the first time since 2008. • Three Hurricanes — Tullis-Joyce, Lachowecki and Kristina Fisher — earned NSCAA College Player of the Week accolades during the season, while Tullis-Joyce garnered one ACC Defensive Player of the Week distinction and Lachowecki received two ACC Offensive Player of the Week recognitions to go along with Dejah Cason’s one. • Tullis-Joyce, Lachowecki, Fisher and Ronnie Johnson were named to the All-ACC Academic Team, while Lachowecki also picked up NSCAA Scholar All-South Region Second Team honors and Emily Auld garnered CoSIDA Academic AllDistrict 4 and ACC postgraduate scholarship distinctions.

·Miami swimming featured one Olympian (Heather Arseth), a World Short Course Championships qualifier (Roxanne Yu), a World University Games qualifier (Manon Viguier) and a NCAA Championships qualifier (Angela Algee) in 2016-17. · Seven different Hurricanes swimmers garnered a total of 13 NCAA Championships consideration times across the season. · Two Hurricanes swimmers represented Miami at the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials; Algee and Christina Leander both competed in Omaha, Neb., for a chance to represent the United States at the 2016 Olympics. · Redshirt freshman David Dinsmore became the 13th diver under head coach Randy Ableman to win an NCAA national championship, taking first place in the men’s 10-meter platform event at the 2017 NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships in Indianapolis. · Sophomore diver Briadam Herrera was named the ACC Men’s Diver of the Year after picking up two All-America honors at the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships, including a national runner-up in the men’s 3-meter springboard. · Head diving coach Randy Ableman was named the ACC Men’s Diving Coach of the Year after guiding both Dinsmore and Herrera to dominant finishes in the NCAA postseason.

MEN’S TENNIS
• Miami defeated Boston College in the opening round of the ACC tournament to win its first tournament match since 2010, and finished 7-6 at home. • As a team, Miami went 29-21 in doubles play, taking the doubles point in 12 of a possible 20 matches. • Junior Piotr Lomacki led the way for the Canes with 12 dual-match singles victories, all at the No. 1 position, while he paired with junior Nile Clark to finish 11-3 on the season in doubles play. • Seniors Max Andrews and Jesse Flores teamed up to win eight matches as a tandem, all at the top spot, most notably taking down the nation’s then-top-ranked doubles team Skander Mansouri and Christian Seraphim of Wake Forest. The pair also took down Notre Dame’s Josh Hager and Eddy Covalschi, thenNo. 24, and Minnesota’s Matic Spec and Felix Corwin, then-No. 39, to earn three victories against opponents ranked in the ITA doubles polls. • Lomacki concluded his junior campaign ranked No. 63 in the ITA singles rankings, while Andrews and Flores formed the country’s No. 58 doubles tandem. • Lomacki was named Second Team All-ACC, while Andrews, junior Kevin Bondar and sophomore Dane Dunlap were selected as AllACC Academic Team honorees.

• Miami reached the NCAA Team Championship for the 22nd straight year, made the second round for the 16th straight campaign, earned a 15th top-25 finish in a row and advanced to the semifinals of the ACC Championship for the ninth time in 13 years. • With a 5-2 victory at Louisville on April 7, Paige Yaroshuk-Tews became the fifthwinningest coach in ACC history, moving to 268-85 (.759) in the Hurricanes’ 13 years in the conference. • Estela Perez-Somarriba became the ninth Hurricane to make the NCAA Singles Championship Final Four, including the first freshman, finished the year ranked No. 21 nationally and received ITA All-America, First Team All-ACC and All-ACC Academic Team distinctions. • Sinead Lohan was named a First Team AllACC and All-ACC Academic Team honoree, earned one ACC Player of the Week award, concluded the season ranked No. 21 in the country and became the ninth Miami player to amass 100 singles victories in her career. • The Hurricanes, who peaked at No. 12 in the ITA rankings and had five different players ranked in singles during the year, closed the regular season by winning seven of their final eight matches, including four in a row against ACC opponents.

MEN’S TRACK & FIELD
• Myles Valentine earned a bronze medal at the ACC Indoor Championships, finishing third in the men’s 60m final. The sophomore set a school record in the 60m, running a time of 6.65 seconds. • Valentine and Daniel Polinski earned All-ACC Academic honors for their excellence in the classroom and in athletics during the indoor season. • Henri Delauze qualified for the NCAA East Preliminary in the 400m. The junior scored in the 400m at both the ACC Indoor Championships and ACC Outdoor Championships. • Isaiah Taylor ran a personal-best time of 10.40 seconds in the 100m final at the ACC Outdoor Championships and qualified for the NCAA East Preliminary. • Carlos Mangum set school records in the men’s hammer throw and men’s weight throw, earning a spot at the NCAA East Preliminary in the hammer. The Hurricanes also qualified for the NCAA East Preliminary in the 4x400m relay. • Sean Grossman rewrote the distance record books in 2017, setting school records in the indoor 3,000m and 5,000m and the outdoor 5,000m and 10,000m.

WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD VOLLEYBALL • Miami’s women defended their ACC Indoor Championship, winning the team’s fourth indoor team championship since joining the ACC. • Shakima Wimbley won the NCAA Championship in the women’s indoor 400m, posting the fastest indoor 400m time in the world this year. The senior earned First Team All-America honors in both the 400m and 4x400m relay, while Michelle Atherley was a first team All-American in the pentathlon and 4x400m and Brittny Ellis earned first team honors in the 400m and 4x400m. Aiyanna Stiverne was a First Team All-American in the 4x400m and Ebony Morrison was Second Team All-America in the 60m hurdles. • Miami won ACC individual titles in the 200m, 400m, 4x400m, 60m hurdles and women’s pentathlon. The Canes also earned silver in the 400m and bronze in the 60m. • Miami director of track and field/cross country Amy Deem was named ACC Coach of the Year and USTFCCCA Regional Coach of the Year for the 2016 indoor season, while Wimbley was named ACC Women’s Track Performer of the Year and USTFCCCA Regional Athlete of the Year. Atherley was named the ACC Women’s Field Performer of the Year. • The Hurricane women finished third at the ACC Outdoor Championships, giving the program its fourth consecutive top three finish. • Wimbley won ACC gold in the 200m, 400m, 4x100m and 4x400m. She was named ACC Women’s Track Performer of the Year and became the first woman ever to win eight ACC titles in the 200m. • Miami swept the podium in the women’s 400m, with Wimbley winning gold, Ellis taking silver and Stiverne earning bronze. Anna Runia won the ACC title in the 400m hurdles, while Zakiya Rashid earned a bronze medal in the discus. Erika Voyzey was a bronze medalist in the high jump. • The Hurricanes had 18 qualifiers for the NCAA East Preliminary and advanced to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 400m (Wimbley and Stiverne), 100m hurdles (Morrison) and 4x100m and 4x400m relays. • Wimbley, who was named a Bowerman Award semifinalist, was the NCAA runner-up in the 400m and anchored the 4x400m relay team to First Team All-America honors, while Stiverne and Morrison were Second Team All-Americans and the 4x100m earned honorable mention.
• Olga Strantzali was named AVCA AllAmerican Honorable Mention, AVCA All-East Coast Region, All-ACC First Team and All-ACC Academic. • Strantzali led the ACC in kills, kills per set, service aces, points and points per set. The junior finished the regular season ranked seventh in the NCAA in kills per set, ninth in points per set and 50th in service aces per set. Strantzali eclipsed 1,000 kills for her career and had a career-high 30 kills at Louisville that is tied for second in school history. • Hannah Sorensen was named All-ACC Academic. The freshman finished third in the ACC in assists per set and had a career-high 64 assists vs Notre Dame that tied for second in school history. • Miami had 15 wins in 2016, including key road victories at Notre Dame and at Louisville. • Valeria Tipiana was inducted into the UM Sports Hall of Fame, becoming the first volleyball player in Hurricane history to receive that honor.

University of Miami Athletics, in partnership with Miami native and the star of CNBC show “The Profit,” Marcus Lemonis, announced the ‘Match Marcus’ fundraising campaign for Student-Athlete Excellence at a Hurricane Club pregame celebration before Miami’s appearance in the Russell Athletic Bowl on Dec. 28. The ‘Match Marcus’ campaign challenges the University of Miami community and Canes fans to raise a total of $2 million to support UM student-athletes in their pursuit of excellence. For every donation to the campaign, Lemonis will match half of the total - resulting in up to a $1 million gift from Lemonis. “I’m a big believer that as you experience success in life, you really have to remember where you came from and how you got there, and the people that got you there,” Lemonis said. “That’s very important to me. I’ve always been grateful to the University of Miami for years for really giving me something to look forward to.” All funds will be directly used by the athletics department to enhance the student-athlete experience and resources in the classroom, in competition and in life skills and career development. Lemonis jumpstarted the ‘Match Marcus’ campaign with a $250,000 check presented to Director of Athletics Blake James at the celebration outside Camping World Stadium. “On behalf of our 400-plus talented student-athletes, we truly appreciate Marcus’s commitment and leadership to give and inspire others to get involved with our program and supporting student-athlete excellence,” James said. “Marcus has motivated and inspired countless people through his business career, and we are honored to have his partnership in Building Champions at the University of Miami. University of Miami athletic teams continued to excel in the classroom based on the latest Academic Progress Rate (APR) statistics which were released by the NCAA. • Three University of Miami teams were publically honored for being among the top 10 percent in Academic Progress Rates (APR). • The men’s cross country, men’s diving and women’s golf and women’s swimming and diving teams earned APR Public Recognition Awards. • Miami has received 41 public APR awards in 12 sports since the program was instituted 12 years ago. • Men’s cross country received its eighth Public Recognition Award, while women’s golf collected its seventh honor. The Canes have won at least three Public Recognition Awards in each of the last seven years. • Seven teams scored 990 or better out of a possible 1,000 points - men’s cross country (1000), golf (1000), soccer (997), men’s tennis (991), women’s tennis (1000), women’s track (991) and volleyball (994). • The Hurricanes football team (965), men’s basketball team (974) and women’s basketball (985) team all bested their respective sports’ multi-year national average.

MIAMI AND ESPN • The University of Miami continued its exclusive live broadcasts of Hurricane Athletics, as it aired over 70 live events during the 2016-17 year. • Miami has orchestrated the production of over 150 live ESPN events in two years. • The Hurricanes streamed every Miami soccer, volleyball and baseball game live on the inaugural ACC Network Extra platform. • No school in the ACC aired more live events on the ACC Network Extra platform than Miami. • Miami also debuted its broadcast studio where it aired its 2017 College Football Signing Day Live show, featuring interviews with all Hurricane coaches, including head coach Mark Richt.

NINE HURRICANES JOIN HALL OF FAME The University of Miami Sports Hall of Fame held its 49th Annual Induction Banquet April 18 at Jungle Island and welcomed nine new members to its prestigious club. The Class of 2017 included football’s James Jackson, Jeremy Shockey and Darryl Williams, baseball’s Ryan Braun and Dan Davies, men’s basketball’s Steve Edwards, women’s tennis’ Audra Cohen, women’s basketball coach Katie Meier and Valeria Tipiana, the first volleyball player ever inducted. The evening began with former Hurricane offensive lineman Joaquin Gonzalez being presented with his Hall of Fame jacket. The South Florida native was inducted to the UM Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2016, but elected to wait until 2017 to receive his hall of fame jacket, as he was unavailable to attend the 2016 banquet. With the newest additions to the Hall of Fame, there are now 309 members. The induction ceremony included over 450 guests, including UM Sports Hall of Fame members, Brett Romberg, Charles Johnson, K.C. Jones, head golf coach Patti Rizzo, head women’s tennis coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews and director of track and field/ cross country Amy Deem. The class of 2017 spans over 30 years of Hurricane athletics, ranging from Davies, who played from 1983-1986, to Meier, who currently serves as the Miami women’s basketball coach. In addition to honoring its new members, the Hall of Fame also honored kicker Michael Badgley as the 24th recipient of the Walter Kichefski Endowed Scholarship.

RECORD-BREAKING SEASON IN TICKET SALES
Big crowds and big games were a consistent occurance during the 2016-17 athletics campaign, as the Miami football and men’s basketball teams frequently played in front of packed crowds at home. FOOTBALL • During the 2016 football season, Miami had 351,434 fans pass into the newly renovated Hard Rock Stadium - a figure that ranked 33rd in the nation. • Miami had more than 50,000 fans attend each of its home games this season. The last time Miami had 50,000-or-more fans attend each of its home games was back in 2002. • The Hurricanes averaged 58,572 fans per game this season good for 27th in the nation.
MEN’S BASKETBALL • The Hurricanes men’s basketball season was sold out at the Watsco Center on a season-ticket basis. • This marked the second straight year the Miami Hurricanes have sold out its entire season. • In Coach Larrañaga’s six seasons at The U, fans have more than doubled the total number of season tickets sold from his first season in Coral Gables.
