O

ur May/June issue is out and I can’t wait for our readers to dive into the content that it has featured. Adrienne Bosh, one of our most enjoyable cover shoots to date, was a pleasure to have at MSM studios. Her positivity was infectious and immediately filled the room with great vibes. The fun-filled day included sharing stories and laughs amongst the MSM and Bosh teams. And of course, to continue our tradition we ended the day with our “selfies.” She represents all hardworking mothers and women in Miami and we couldn’t think of a better cover feature for our May/June issue. Aside from our cover story, we are also celebrating another strong female figure – Janet Jones. The Vixen Workout “Commander-in-Chief” has created a fitness phenomenon for women across the country. With that, the summer has arrived which means lots of traveling. Our “Top Beaches of the World” and “Top U.S. Summer Outdoor Adventures” will serve as great planning guides for your next trip. For those of us who wish to stay local this summer, you can enjoy everything the new Miami Design District has to offer; and, we’ve got it covered in this issue. On the entertainment side, we had J.R. Ramirez stop by our office to discuss his new role on STARZ’s Power. Looking forward to the season 2 premiere in June. I hope you enjoy reading this issue as much as we enjoyed putting it together for you! ERNESTO POBLACION PUBLISHER / EDITOR-IN-CHIEF

Bouquet of Scents

others rarely have a second to themselves, and as a result their beauty routine is often sacrificed to make time for others. This Mother’s Day, gift the joy of a simple reminder of how beautiful they are inside and out with one of these perfectly matching scents. From girly to sporty, and from day to night – we have something for every type of mother. ■

Omnia Indian Garnet by Bvlgari takes feminine notes of Mandarin Garnet and blends it with Indian Woods, Indian Tuberose, and Osmanthus to create the scent for the mysterious woman. Hints of saffron and amber also add to its unique scent. This perfume is ideal for a date night and is sure to capture a man’s desire. Plus, Bvlgari perfumes are also known for their strong staying power! Available at Nordstrom, Macy’s, & Sephora / 1.33 oz for $65 & 2.2 oz for $82

Get summer ready with the ultimate summer fragrance. Estée Lauder’s Bronze Goddess Eau Fraiche Skinscent is equipped with notes associated with the warm season and tropical weather. They include: amber, coconut milk, sandalwood, lemon, orange, magnolia petals, & orange flower buds. If you look closely, the sun can be seen setting in the sun-kissed colored bottle. Available at EsteeLauder.com & Macy’s / 3.4 oz for $65

For the woman who prefers a citrus scent over florals, Michael Kors’ Sporty Citrus will do the trick. While the name may say “sporty,” don’t be fooled: the scent does a fantastic job at remaining girly. The perfume contains notes of mandarin and orange blossom blended with sweet cassis. Available at MichaelKors. com & Nordstrom / 1.7 oz for $78 & 3.4 oz for $98

Finally, the lively, high-spirited woman has a signature fragrance – Marc Jacobs’ DOT. The bottle alone, shaped and modeled after a lady bug, speaks for itself and is sure to catch the eye of its target. The scent is a balance between floral and citrus as it contains orange blossom, sweet honeysuckle, dragon fruit, red berries, jasmine, and coconut water. It also hits you with surprising soft notes of vanilla and driftwood. Available at MarcJacobs.com, Macy’s, & Nordstrom / 1.7 oz $76

The most unique of this bunch goes to Nirvana Black by Elizabeth & James. The solid perfume comes in a compact. Yes, you read it right – solid! It is applied by using your fingertips or a cotton pad. This new fragrance by designers, Ashley & Mary-Kate Olsen, launched this spring for the modern woman. The small compact fits in the palm of your hand and is great for traveling and storing in your makeup bags. However, don’t let its look take the shine away from its scent. Leaving traces of superb notes of sensuality, it is ideal for a night out. Ingredients consist of woody scents with hints of violet, sandalwood, and vanilla. Available at Sephora / $48

Be one with nature when you use Laila Eau de Parfum – the essence of Norway. The natural ingredients of this perfume can be felt in the lightness of the spray and softness of the scent. The oils of the fragrance work with your body’s natural oils to create a scent true to you and lasts all day long. These rare ingredients are blended with Norwegian mountain wildflowers and watermelon. Available at Laila.com & Nordstrom / 1.7 oz for $56 & 3.4 oz for $76

R

ob Scheppy, makeup artist and hair stylist to the stars, is anything but ordinary when it comes to makeup. He’s behind the show-stopping makeup trends seen on everyone from the Kardashians to Heidi Klum to Mariah Carey, and so much more. What began as small gigs in Miami took him all the way to Los Angeles where he grew his high profile clientele list. Now, women everywhere can finally be blessed with his magical touch by using his latest makeup venture – Rob Scheppy for ‘Tini Beauty Shadow Palette ($39.50). Rob’s love for makeup and beauty products began as a child, “I grew up in a house full of sisters so I was exposed early to makeup and beauty products, and became fascinated.” His first big break came when he was working at a fashion show, where he was approached with the opportunity to work at the 2008 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in Miami. At the show, he was also granted the opportunity to do makeup for celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Kourtney Kardashian, and Kristin Cavallari. Now, let’s talk about his highly sought after eye shadow palette! Rob Scheppy for ‘Tini Beauty Shadow Palette contains an array of shades that can easily be transformed from day to night,

all in one palette. “I wanted a palette of my must-haves as an artist – versatile shades that can be mixed and matched and used in different combinations to create a custom look for any occasion.” What’s his favorite combination of shadows, you ask? Cinnamon-Tini and White Russian. ‘Tini Beauty colors are famously named after cocktails, and this palette is no exception. Rob and the ‘Tini Beauty team researched cocktail names to match each color. Use the matte shades for a daytime look, then switch it up with the shimmery tones for that Hollywood glam nighttime gleam. For summer, his favorite trend is “the warm, subtle shimmer of Rosé Champagne on the lid, on the crease, and along the lash line. Combine this with a dab of Pearl Fizz in the inner corners and brow bones. So easy, fresh, and alluring.” The colors can be used dry, for shadow application and blending; or wet, as an upper lash line eyeliner. To get the best results and use from his palette, he recommends Tweezerman’s shadow brushes to apply and blend the colors when dry. If used as liner, the angled brush works best to get that precise cat-eyed look when wet. Rob has done makeup for a variety of clients and media outlets, such as commercials, major ad campaigns, music videos, TV shows, and more. But, his favorites have to be magazines and weddings, “major magazine covers always make me proud, but being chosen to do clients’ weddings have to be the most meaningful.” His favorite beauty icon is Madonna. He always feels inspired by her trendsetting ways as a risk-taker, re-inventor, and artist. When asked if he would partner up with other beauty brands in the future, he responded positively with: “I love all things makeup, so you never know!” We can’t wait to see what the future holds for this talented artist. ■

Lighthearted Whimsy

T

By Katie Jackson Photography Courtesy of Ted Baker

ed Baker’s womenswear collection embodies everything that is hot this season. Appropriately named “Pinch Me,” the Spring/ Summer 2015 collection looks as if it is something out of a dream. Incorporating colorful bursts of bold prints on strong textured fabrics, while also including pieces with softer hues and delicate floral detailing, Ted Baker created the ultimate collection for any wardrobe preference. Make a bold statement during a night out in the MIRCANA tropical toucan maxi dress ($425) or strut to the office in the perfectly understated yet detailed DHIAA waffle suit jacket ($395). Perhaps one of the collection’s most whimsical pieces, FINDON, a nude pink embellished floral tunic dress ($375) can be worn anywhere from a daytime party into the night. The “Pinch Me” women’s accessories are equally lust-worthy. The collection offers a selection of chic clutches, like the KALA cut out leather clutch ($220), stylish totes, and shopper bags. Take any outfit to the next level with the KYUAND ankle strap sandals ($150) and even give your phone an update with the CALER pure peony iPhone 6 case ($50). Whether you are looking for the perfect ensemble for an upcoming party, or a statement piece to bring a fresh new look to your spring or summer wardrobe, Ted Baker’s latest collection is perfect for any occasion.

Bold Sophistication Ted Baker’s Spring/Summer 2015 collection did not leave all the whimsy to the womenswear. The men’s “Pinch Me” collection also includes a combination of bold and delicate pieces, but with an emphasis on striking details using this season’s biggest trends. Each menswear piece creates a serious statement using different patterns, like the SWEETJK floral jacquard blazer ($1,648) and the DRYVER checked wool blazer ($625). For the man ready for an update with classic sophistication, the nature-inspired longsleeved and short-sleeved button downs with matching skinny ties offer the perfect style-meets-sophistication look. Graphic T-shirts such as the TALATON printed T-shirt ($75) are also offered in abundance, as well as the classic oxford polo. If formal wear is desired, look no further than the suits infused with pinks, pastel mints, and sky blues. The added flair of brightly colored ties and pocket squares will put the finishing touches on an already eye-catching look. The menswear collection also provides men’s shoes, such as the CHORPRI printed derby brogues ($260) and accessories that make a statement all their own. The latest Ted Baker menswear collection truly looks as if it is something out of this world, or as the collection’s campaign proclaims, “all is not as it seams.” ■

ith some of the most innovative fashion houses, art, restaurants, and architectural masterpieces, it is no wonder why Miamians are flocking to the Design District. But the flourishing area was not always so popular. Fifteen years ago, Craig Robins, CEO and President of the inventive real estate company Dacra, saw potential for the once neglected area. In partnering with global real estate and investment fund L Real Estate, Robins completely recreated the District into an artistic haven. “When we set out to revitalize and reinvent the District, our goal was to cultivate an atmosphere where creativity could flourish, regardless of its specific label or medium,â€? says Robins. Now dedicated to providing the ultimate fashion, dining, art, and design experience wrapped in architectural ingenuity, the Miami Design District is the absolute go-to destination for all Miami visitors and locals. â–

Vixen Workout

F

amed Miami workout sensation, Vixen Workout, rapidly rose to the top in the fitness world in the last few years. Janet Jones, “Commander-in-Chief” of the Vixen Army, had no idea the potential of her idea when she took a risk by leaving everything conventional behind to pursue a happier and better lifestyle. Her inspiration has touched women across the country because she has anchored her real emotions to help empower other women and mothers in the work force. Janet has always had a passion for dance. Her résumé includes the Miami Heat Dance Team in 2005. After she left the team, she hopelessly fell into a corporate job because she felt it was the standard thing to do. Like many women, she subconsciously fell into what usually becomes a “zombie life” – dedicating your entire being to work and the household. While she really loves being a mother, she felt trapped by this routine and found herself emotionless as her light faded away. When she was laid off from her conventional job, she was left with nothing but 13 cents in her bank account and a newborn baby to support. With much courage and effort, she finally decided to take action. Something most people fear and shy away from. She then turned to her first love: dance. Janet channeled all her energy towards this passion and finally began to feel like herself again. She knew she wanted to help other women channel their inner beauty, too. “Abandoning yourself does not make you a better mother, wife, sister, daughter, etc. You need to take care of yourself first in order to take better care of everyone around you.” With the support and love of her family, the Vixen Workout was born. The goal of the class is to make every woman feel like they are in a nightclub with their friends dancing the night away, while unknowingly burning 1,000 calories per class (400-600 for beginners). The ultimate Vixen Army woman is “a woman who has found her light (or reignited it) and makes every woman around her see herself in the best possible light,” shares the Miami native. The hour long classes are made for every type of body shape and fitness need, whether you aim to lose weight or just simply want to tone up. However, the classes cannot be fully effective without a healthy diet, as any other workout routine. Speaking of nightclubs, Janet shares her favorite memory so far with Vixen Workout is when she took her class to LIV Nightclub, which sold out within 24 hours. The club was packed with 300 women of her Vixen Army.

Every month, the Vixen Army can expect Janet to create new choreography and playlists. She produces routines that are easy to pick-up, whether you are a professional dancer or have never taken a dance class before in your life. With 102 choreographed routines to date, she has no plans of stopping any time soon. In August, she will be launching a nationwide certification program. So, how does this fitness maven juggle her business life with her personal life? She balances out her schedule with work, family, and fun. If she finds herself with one busy workweek, she will dedicate the next week to her family, home, and personal time. For her, family comes first and she would never let anything get in the way of that. She also shared some advice for those who have lost their light: “Each one of us is here to do something amazing. Listen to the voice inside not what ‘society’ tells you to do. The voice

xcited for her cover photo shoot, Adrienne Bosh stepped into MSM studios and posed as photographer Imani Ogden snapped her picture. Music from Bosh’s personal iTunes library played over the speakers, and after a series of photos, she began to dance and laugh, lighting up both the camera and the room with her genuine warmth and positivity. This happy and positive attitude is what helped make Bosh the phenomenon she is today. As the wife of Miami Heat center and power forward Chris Bosh, mother of three, business owner, blogger, party planner, and active philanthropist, Bosh is so much more than meets the eye. Born in Indiana, Bosh says her Midwestern upbringing provided her with a solid ground of morals that make her the person she is today. Raised by a single mother, she learned at a young age the importance of independence, a quality she hopes to now instill in her own children. “I love encouraging my children to be self-sufficient, and to become whatever it is they want to be,” says Bosh. As a mother to Dylan Skye and Jackson, and stepmother to Trinity, Bosh feels that motherhood has enriched her life in every sense. “My kids have taught me amazing patience, and they have taught me the importance of living in the moment.” With her family as her number one priority, Bosh has also managed to create a movement so powerful that she has deeply impacted other families’ lives. In addition to holding the position of Vice President of Team Tomorrow Inc., a charitable organization founded by her husband, Bosh has made it her mission to encourage and empower women everywhere. She hosts an annual Mother’s Day brunch called Today I Can, which treats new and expectant mothers to a day of pampering and baby supplies. She has also chaired the Dress for Success Gala, an event that provides professional clothing and career development strategies to unemployed women in South Florida. Apart from her philanthropic spirit, Bosh strives to provide multiple outlets for women to seek out when they are in need of fashion and health advice, laughter, or overall inspiration. Starting a blog on her website, AdrienneBosh. com, Bosh shares her own personal struggles and triumphs with her readers. “I feel like as a young woman, I didn’t have a lot of women share their secrets with me, their heartbreaks, their sad times, or their struggles,” says Bosh. “I just had to learn the hard way. I feel like we can do better as women to help equip the next woman sooner, faster, better. Those five minutes you take to talk to a young girl could change her life, and I just want to be able to do that.” But perhaps her biggest venture yet will be the opening of her retail boutique and event venue, Sparkle and Shine Darling. Opening in May, Bosh has put her heart and soul into creating a

space where women can gather to celebrate each other. After her husband and closest girlfriends threw her a beautiful Parisian themed party in Paris for her 29th birthday, Bosh felt inspired to create a similar experience for Miami women. “My girlfriends spent months shopping to find these items from vintage stores and different themed stores. But they never found one store that sold all of these items,” says Bosh. “So when I came back from Paris, I really wanted to create a place where women could not only shop for items to celebrate these women, but also provide a place where they can have a beautiful occasion and party like the one my friends had given me.” In providing multiple themes for any occasion, including Breakfast at Tiffany’s, garden tea party, Gatsby champagne, and a Parisian rendezvous, Bosh wants to provide a space for customers to celebrate birthdays, graduations, baby and bridal showers, bachelorette parties and so much more. As far as the boutique’s name, Bosh wanted to incorporate her love of “sparkling and shining,” while also receiving a little help from her husband. “My whole theory behind sparkling and shining is that if you are totally confident, and totally okay with how you are shining and sparkling in life, then you will succeed. But I added darling because that’s my husband’s nickname for me. He’s from Texas and he’s very southern. So he always says ‘whatever you want to eat, darling,’ or ‘whatever you want, darling.’ So the darling came from him,” says Bosh. “At the end of the day, I want my darlings to feel the same way when my husband calls me darling. I want my darlings to feel loved, supported, encouraged, and confident. Because when my husband calls me darling, I feel all of those things.” Bosh also envisions her boutique as not only a place to host and celebrate occasions, but to throw events to bring communities of women together. “My goal is to have this as a space for any event meant to encourage women,” says Bosh. “Whether it’s a women’s entrepreneur night, a book club night, or new moms’ night, I want to provide a space where women can come together and support each other,” says Bosh. “It’s much more than a store, it’s a movement.” As Bosh’s interview comes to a close, she makes sure to thank every person in the room before leaving, showing that she truly lives and breathes everything she encourages. An example for women not only living in Miami, but women everywhere, Bosh is the epitome of a darling whose sparkle and shine will never go out. ■

utside, men moved their hands: a sharp slap of the palm, a graceful gesture of the wrist, a swift stroke of the fingers. All leading to shoulder grasps, handshakes and texting exchanges. On the steps of the doorway these habitual movements made the Hausammann Gallery feel all the more welcoming. Just inside stood Cope2. Composed and concentrated, his hands swayed to their own movement. A spray can was held in his palm, and with his finger on the nozzle and his wrist moving in grace, he performed live art in his solo exhibition. On Saturday, March 14th, the Hausammann Gallery opened their doors to Wynwood. Owned by Frederico and Beatrice Hausammann, the third generation of the Hausammann lineage of Cortina, Italy, their partnership has now brought another gallery to Wynwood. The expansion and decade-long commitment is their way of showing an admiration for the preservation of art and the society it circles around. Known for being observers of contemporary art, their transition to another continent seems to be justified by the urban culture Wynwood

offers artists. Regarding their move, Beatrice commented, “We want to be part of the street art scene and what better place than Wynwood to do that!” The growing art community is known for their graffiti, wall-paintings and galleries, all lining up to add to the 21st century contemporary art movement. With the time that the Hausammanns have been in Miami, it has proved to be a learning experience for them. “The people that we have met, have been friendly and we believe that the art scene will continue to grow in the future,” says Beatrice. With this growth in mind, the Hausammanns seem to want to tackle a particularly popular subject in contemporary art – street art. The gallery opening, featuring long time friend and great business connection, street artist Cope2, showed viewers the gallery’s interest in street-art and their attempts to have gallery selections “reflect modern culture.” However, with countless galleries and countless artistic expression, what exactly can the Hausammann Gallery offer Wynwood? According to Beatrice, “the gallery will not only contribute

to charity with unique projects, but be an outlet for local artists to express themselves. [Wynwood is] a strong art community, with some artists making great strides in the global art community.” After the grand opening of the gallery, spectators were left questioning future projects, exhibitions and collaborations. The Hausammanns did not budge. The only insight they gave was an alluring “stay tuned.” To those familiar with the Hausammann Gallery in Cortina, expect to see some parallel projects. As for those familiar with local

artists, Beatrice revealed interest in street artists Cale and Atomik, elaborating, “We were lucky to have met Cale, an international renowned artist from Los Angeles, and Atomik, a Miami based artist, that we are going to feature in our upcoming art fair in Germany.” ■

Miami Beach Celebrates

100th Birthday

O

By Angela Betancourt Photographed by Mitchell Zachs

n March 26th, thousands of people gathered on the sands of South Beach to celebrate Miami Beach’s 100th birthday. The city, in partnership with the Hard Rock, joined forces to host the Hard Rock Rising - Miami Beach 2015 Global Music Festival. The star studded concert featured Andrea Bocelli, Gloria Estefan, Wyclef Jean, Barry Gibb of the Bee Gees, Flo Rida, and more. Though it was unusual to see such an unlikely collection of artists, the music line-up perfectly represented the melting pot that is Miami Beach. There was no denying it was a concert for the ages and a fantastic conclusion to several weeks of nonstop celebrations across the city. However, this anniversary was about more than just nonstop partying. The city, in partnership with local businesses and organizations, came together to celebrate the occasion in a variety of unique ways that reflects Miami Beach’s diverse cultural community. Several days leading up to the finale concert, Miami Beach Mayor

Phillip Levine presided over a mass wedding of 100 people (50 couples) as a part of the 100 years celebration. Among the happily wed were same-sex couples who were finally able to get married legally in the state of Florida. Same-sex marriage became legal in the state at the start of the year, and this marked a historic milestone for Miami Beach’s LGBT community. The Art Deco Museum, founded by the Miami Design Preservation League (MDPL) in Miami Beach, opened its doors to host the Miami Centennial Photograph Exhibition. Renowned professional photographer Johnny Arraiz, whose been recognized by the Congress of the United States of America for giving his invaluable service to the community, showcased his latest exhibition “Miami Beach, 100 Years, 100 Photos,” which immortalized special moments in the city’s history. This exhibit was one of many hosted by the museum to educate and engage locals and tourists alike on Miami Beach’s rich history. The Miami Beach Centennial celebrations became an extra special event for 100 men and women who passed their citizenship requirements and officially became citizens of the United States. Leon Rodriguez, Director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services officially welcomed these 100 new citizens after they swore allegiance to America. Representing more than 25 different countries, it was fitting to have this ceremony in a city that was built by immigrants from all over the world. Orchestra Miami and The Leroy Schecter Foundation celebrated the centennial with a free picnic concert that took attendees on a musical tour through the highlights of Miami Beach’s history. Orchestra Miami believes in the power of music to strengthen a community. Now in its 8th season, they provide high-quality classical symphonic music and programming that celebrates Miami’s diverse cultural heritage. In order to reach as many people as possible, Orchestra Miami events are almost always free. The Miami Beach Centennial was as much about celebrating its past and present, as it was about looking towards the future. As Miami continues to evolve as a global city and as its population continues to grow denser, its future becomes even more important. In a show of its dedication to protecting Miami Beach from the effects of climate change, the city announced during the celebrations, that it has begun developing a variety of initiatives to generate more awareness about global climate change. The city is also planning on creating an environmental summit hosted by the Mayor that will feature scientists, educators, and other influential leaders from different disciplines, coming together to discuss environmental advocacy. Miami Beach’s history helped define its foundation, but its present and all of the people, organizations, and businesses, who love the city today, will drive Miami Beach into the future and forward for another 100 years. Happy Birthday, Miami Beach. ■

s Miami further cements itself as a major player in the global culinary stage, it continues to attract the attention of celebrated restaurant brands from around the world. Bagatelle, the upscale modern French cuisine restaurant with locations in New York, St. Barth, Los Angeles, Sao Paulo, St. Tropez, and Dubai, is the latest restaurant brand to establish a location in Miami Beach. Bagatelle owners Remi Laba and Auymeric Clemente recently opened the 144-seat location on South Beach at 2000 Collins Ave after much anticipation. Zagat even included it in its Miami’s Most Anticipated Restaurant Openings of 2015 list. Executive Chef Matthieu Godard formerly of Boulud is at the helm serving modern French dishes such as Lamb Horiatiki; Poulet Entier Roti a la Truffe - whole truffled roasted chicken, country style potatoes, caramelized cipollini, button mushrooms, thyme chicken, and Jus; Gambas au Pastis - Jumbo prawn, flambé with Ricard anise; and Gnocchi Truffes a la Parisienne - homemade gnocchi, black truffle sauce, with aged parmesan cheese among many others. Bagatelle also offers diners a worldly collection of wines and champagne. The dining experience extends beyond the plate and into the restaurant’s décor. Guests will enjoy their meal or drinks in an environment that makes art an integral part of the dining process. Design company Celano Design kept the familiar looks of its sister locations of beige and white furnishings but accented them with decorative moldings, elegant banquets, and crystal chandeliers. Vibrant pop art provided by the Opera Gallery can also be found hanging on the walls; giving an extra dimension of color. These exclusive pieces of art will constantly rotate and works by artist SEEN, known as the “Godfather of Graffiti,” will be a premier artist on display. In addition to its unique design, Bagatelle is also known for its party atmosphere. The owners have every intention of living up to their reputation of being one of the liveliest culinary destinations in the world. A DJ spinning the latest music hits and live performances throughout the night are to be expected. The music gets louder with each passing hour and there is a “St. Tropez meets South Beach” energy that permeates throughout the entire restaurant. Just like its other locations, Bagatelle has already begun attracting some of the city’s tastemakers and is quickly becoming one of the hottest spots in town. ■

The Gorge & Green River Adventures, North Carolina Opened in 2006, the youngest destination on our list might also be the most adventurous one. Securing its #12 spot on National Geographic’s Ultimate Adventure Bucket List last year, The Gorge and Green River Adventures, located in Saluda, North Carolina, gives vacationers lots of fun activities to choose from; zip lining and white river rafting are among the many. However, the most unique attraction includes waterfall rappelling. What began as a kayaking staple rapidly turned into a full-blown water adventure park. The 200-foot waterfall will leave you soaked but is sure to give you all the experience you need to fulfill your rappelling skills. You might even be lucky enough to have a helping hand from a salamander that can be seen clinging to the wall. Now, for those interested in zip lining, this attraction has a special treat for you. Home to the steepest and fastest zip line canopy in America, their zip line drops 1,100 feet, landing in the Green River.

Ithaca, New York Ithaca, New York has much more to offer beyond Cornell University. It houses beautiful and jawdropping waterfalls with a lovely green backdrop. This destination is comprised of the perfect getaway if you are looking to relax. Waterfalls here come in all shapes and sizes. The beauty of it all is that anywhere you turn, an alluring scenery is waiting to take your breath away. Take long walks, climb hills, or just watch the waterfalls in their majestic setting. The history behind its natural charm comes from ice 15,000 years ago. When the glaciers separated and disappeared, the waterfalls came into existence. The exposed rocks that can be seen all around are actually considered to be evidence of the sea that once covered the landscape half a million years ago.

Kartchner Caverns, Arizona In 1974, local cavers discovered Kartchner Caverns hidden away between Benson and San Pedro River in Arizona. The cave passageways were kept a secret for fourteen years in order to prevent vandalism. The cavers decided the best way to preserve the caves was to make it property of the state park. In 1999, it finally opened to the public. The two main attractions featured here are the Big Room and the Throne Room. The Big Room houses the world record of largest formation of brushite moonmilk. For those who are not speleologists, these are pale prismatic, creamy crystals found in limestone caves. The Throne Room contains the world’s longest soda straw stalactites, which are long, thin tubular stalactites that leak water. However, these are blocked where it would normally leak and therefore form stalactites. As for the animal life, thousands of bats nest during the late spring and summer in the Big Room.

Watkins Glen State Park, New York

Mendenhall, Alaska

Watkins Glen State Park, located in New York, has been in business since 1924. The park’s center attraction is given to a 400-foot deep gorge which has a stream of waterfalls and rapids running along it. This beautiful sight was caused during the Ice Age by glaciers that deepened and later formed what we see today. Here, visitors can climb the waterfalls from mid-May until November. The park contains three trails that extend along the gorge where you can set up picnics, shop at the gift shop, and adventure through the playground.

The 12-mile long Mendenhall Glacier located in Alaska is able to do something only a few other places in the world can do. This destination allows you to experience every stage of the water cycle at once. The spectacle of it doesn’t end here; the hollow glaciers contain running water while being surrounded by ocean-blue walls and ceilings. Words and photographs will never do justice to such a natural wonder. Visitors can even kayak through the ice caves until they reach the glacier. Then, they can climb over the caves. Unfortunately, this magical destination is rapidly retreating due to global warming. It has been closely monitored since 1942 and since then has decreased in size by 2 miles.

hen traveling to the beach, everyone has their ideal image of how they plan on spending their time. Some people may choose to find an isolated beachfront, where they have the beach all to themselves. While others may want to be surrounded by tourists, moving from one water activity to the next. There is certainly no shortage of beaches for which you are able to design the ideal vacation for you and your family. Here are four of the most popular beach destinations in the world. You can decide which one appeals to you the most and begin making plans to visit on your next vacation. â–

Cook Islands Muri Beach in Rarotonga is one of the most popular beach destinations in the world. It is a white sand beach lined with palm trees around the exterior. The beach, with its Pacific Ocean reef, makes it possible to safely swim here. While it is a fairly quiet beach, you will still find some water sports offered, such as, wind and kite surfing. No trip to Cook Islands would be complete without learning a bit about its history. You can do this by visiting one of the islands’ main attractions, the Cook Island Cultural Village. It is situated in a garden setting with water surrounding it, while performances take place on floating stages. Nightly shows, set overwater, explain the Polynesian history and culture.

Turks & Caicos Islands The most visited beach in Turks and Caicos is definitely Grace Bay Beach in Providencials. There are 12 miles of exquisite white sand beaches to explore. Grace Bay Beach is a rather active beach as it offers a variety of sporting activities, such as diving and deep-sea fishing. A favorite attraction at Grace Bay Beach is the private guided horseback tours of Caicos Corral. It is offered just West of the beach where there are few tourists around. This is great for first time riders because they are able to gallop along at a more comfortable pace, while learning how to ride. Experienced riders go at their own pace, enjoying the scenery while riding along the beachfront.

Bora Bora, Tahiti

Seychelles, Africa

Bora Bora’s Lafayette Beach is located on the main island of Tahiti. If you’ve never experienced a black sand beach, you can experience it for the first time at Lafayette Beach. The waters are calm, warm, and inviting. It is usually very quiet and an ideal place for swimming. Huahine Beach has soft white sand with waters of deep, rich blue hues. Many attractions can be found here, as the waters are ideal for snorkeling and other water activities. A must do while visiting Bora Bora is breakfast by canoe. It is more about the presentation than the food. A canoe will arrive to your bungalow, outfitted with lots of exotic flowers, full of delectable pastries, fresh fruits and juices. You are treated like Polynesian royalty.

One stretch of beach where many romantic escapades take place on is Anse Takamaka Beach in Seychelles. It is a pure, unspoiled, white sand beach that beckons romance. The waters are warm and surrounded by lush tropics. Few people are on this beach, which makes it ideal for couples to explore and enjoy. It offers plenty of photo opportunities, as this beach is picture perfect. It is great for long walks and private picnics. If you are up for something interesting to do, after a day at the beach, visit Trois Freres Distillery. This is where the famous Takamaka Rum is produced. You will find out how the various flavors of rum are made while on a rum tasting tour.

I

n 1955, and for many years after, the Seville Beach Hotel in Miami Beach was the talk of the town. The rich, famous, and beautiful flocked here in droves and the hotel was yet another example of the glamour that attracted so many to the city. In 2006, the hotel closed its doors and stood empty and shuttered for years until 2010. After a failed attempt by the Ritz Carlton to take over the property, the Marriot purchased the historic hotel for $57.5 million and tapped famed hotelier Ian Schrager to bring it back to life. Today this historic hotel on 2901 Collins Ave has been transformed into The Miami Beach EDITION, a completely renovated and elegantly designed resort with intricately interlinked complex structures, spaces, and settings. The hotel features 294 rooms; 23 of which are two-story bungalows. All of the rooms are spacious, bright, and elegantly designed with a timeless resort feel and minimal fuss. The property also has 26 residences for those who want to live The EDITION lifestyle on a more permanent basis. Schrager, who is behind the iconic Delano Hotel, wanted to create something that would have a bigger impact and would better represent Miami’s ongoing transformation into a world-class city. Though much of the hotel has been completely redone, guests can still experience a bit of the past through the lobby’s white marble floors and 24-karat gold columns, which have been restored to their full glory. The resort is home to two restaurants from Michelin star chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten: The Matador Room, the signature restaurant that offers his distinctive modern interpretation of Latin cuisine, and a 21st century food bazaar called The Market. The Matador’s seasonal menu is composed of small and large plates including Raw Shaved Florida Red Snapper with Green Chili Dressing, and Gulf White Shrimp in Agua Diablo.

MSM lifestyle The Market is part patisserie, part boulangerie, and part salumeria, and offers pizzas, sandwiches, ceviche to wine, smoothies, and fresh juices. It was created to give guests a new alternative to room service. The hotel’s outdoor area is called Tropicale in honor of the historic 1950’s Havana nightclub Tropicana. Between the two pools, a private beach complete with an outdoor movie screen, a ping pong area, and a fire pit, Tropicale communicates a sense of both fun and relaxation. There are indeed a lot of beautiful things to appreciate about The EDITION, but it would be hard to deny the fun and excitement that takes place in the hotel basement. But don’t be fooled, the Basement at The Miami Beach EDITION is unlike anything found in the city. If you are in the mood for some bowling or would like to ice skate in the middle of the day, then this is the place for you. The Basement is home to a modern day Studio 54 dance club, a four-lane luminescent bowling alley, and a 2,000 square-foot ice-skating rink. All three are open to the public. When it’s time to relax, The Spa at the Miami Beach EDITION offers a wide variety of intriguing therapies and beauty services like the Sticks and Stones massage, and Oxygen Infusion facials. There is also a 24-hour fitness studio, a beauty lounge, and treatment rooms equipped with individual iPads for on-demand music. The Miami Beach EDITION opened during Art Basel last December and instantly became the go-to venue for the rich, famous, and beautiful like the Seville was 60 years ago. ■

THE SurF cLuB FOur SEASONS HOTEL & rESIDENcES Across the bay in Surfside, the Miami-based private real estate investment company Fort Capital, has joined forces with the Four Seasons to develop The Surf Club Four Seasons Hotel & Residences. Located at 9011 Collins Avenue, The Surf Club Four Seasons is a luxury residential and hotel development project currently under construction on nine acres of ocean front property. The development is preserving the landmark Surf Club, which was designed by Russell Pancoast in the 1930s. For the past 80 years, the club’s old world charm and glamorous interior made it one of the most exclusive clubs in Miami Beach. Architect Richard Meier, a Pritzker Prize winner, is embracing that history as he creates modern new additions. When the building is complete, there will be two transparent 12 story residential towers, a private membership club, two restaurants, four swimming pools, a state-of-the-art spa and fitness center, more than 40 beach cabanas, and an expansive park and ocean-side gardens. The residences comprise 157 homes, including 12 penthouses with incredible views of the Atlantic Ocean and Downtown. The units will range in size from 1,800 to 7,800 square feet with floorto-ceiling glass walls and up to twenty-foot-high ceilings. The smooth “lift and glide” terrace doors lead residents to large terraces and uninterrupted views of the Atlantic Ocean. Select rooftop residences have private swimming pools, atriums with private indoor courtyards, and outdoor showers and kitchens. Though all the units are being constructed with exceptional quality, the 12 penthouses are distinguished by their extraordinary design. They range in size from, 5,400 to 7,500 square feet with a vast amount of private outdoor entertaining and recreational areas. Rooftop gardens, private swimming pools, outdoor living and dining rooms, and private beachfront cabanas are just some of the extra perks.

THErE ArE LuSH GArDENS, OuTDOOr LOuNGE ArEAS, AND MArINA AND BOAT SLIPS.

PArAISO BAYvIEWS 50 years ago, the Edgewater community, which begins just north of the Omni, was a vibrant neighborhood until it came into hard times in the 1990’s. Today, the neighborhood has found a new identity and has become a hot commodity for real estate. Paraiso Bayviews is the latest addition to Edgewater’s new luxury Paraiso Bay compound, a high-end development project being built by The Related Group. This building and its sister towers are credited for helping infuse new life in the Edgewater area and has become an attractive option for buyers looking for a resort-style environment. In a city dominated by million dollar condos, Paraiso Bayviews is garnering a lot of attention for its affordable prices which start at $340K. However, there are no sacrifices in amenities. Boasting 44 stories and 396 units, the building has a very contemporary architectural design that’s showcased throughout the property. There are lush gardens, outdoor lounge areas, and marina and boat slips. In addition to an onsite restaurant managed by chef Michael Schwartz, residents will also enjoy a private theater, fitness center, rooftop pool, a tennis court, and much more; all with 1,000 feet of Biscayne Bay waterfront as the backdrop. Each unit is move-in ready and showcases nine foot ceilings, spacious terraces, floor to ceiling resistant glass panels, and modern appliance packages. The project’s international interior and industrial designer Karim Rashid is recognized as one of the most important industrial designers of our time and evolved his trademark colors and bold shapes for a softer more natural approach to the project.

Paraiso Bayviews is located at 600 NE 31st Street, Miami, FL 33137 For more information, please visit www.paraisobayviews.com

If these three trending residential projects are any indication, it has never been a better time to explore Miami’s flourishing real estate market scene. From more affordable options to the double digit millions, Paraiso Bayviews, The Surf Club Four Seasons Hotel & Residences, and Casa Playa, all showcase just how great Miami luxury living can be. ■

n Thursday, March 5th, Coconut Grove residents from all corners of the city gathered at The Residences at Park Grove to witness a historical moment. The city’s most influential locals got together to discuss the future of Miami’s oldest and dearest neighborhood. The panelists included owners of businesses of which helped the city flourish with their ever-growing companies. Among them were Büro Urban Workspaces owner, Michael Feinstein, Herman Bredemeier of H & H Jewels, and Arquitectonica’s Raymond Fort. Naturally, these successful business owners of Coconut Grove gathered at the city’s latest talk of the town: The Residences at Park Grove. They were very excited to share what they believe is next for their beloved city. Led by Carlos Rosso of The Related Group and David Martin of Terra Group, the discussion began with shared stories of their past and present with the city. They shared intimate stories of the beginnings of their companies and how their love for the Grove has grown over the years. Like most business leaders, their stories began with nothing but a dream. Presently, they were excited to share how their dreams flourished and continue to grow. Some of the inspiring stories included those moving to Miami on short notices and eventually building their lives here. Most of these movers and shakers grew up outside of the city and admit to being unable to imagine themselves living elsewhere. Although Miami Beach has always been the center of attention for tourists (even locals), the true heart of Miami is making its comeback in a big way. And, we can thank all of these business owners for helping the city flourish but it’s the people who keep coming back and who bring life to the Magic City. ■

rom playing a superhero in Arrow to starring as a key person involved in a drug dealing organization in Power, J.R. Ramirez has quite an acting career under his belt. And, it’s only the beginning. The versatile actor, born in Matanzas, Cuba, found his calling in his early twenties after filming several commercials in Tampa, Florida. He then became eager to study theatre, where his passion for acting grew more and more over the years. For the past year, J.R. has been juggling his roles in Arrow and Power. It was inevitable he would discover a resemblance between the two. “Both characters are similar in that they are very smart and have had an extremely hard upbringing.” The superhero series, Arrow, follows several DC Comics heroes and villains, with its protagonist being Green Arrow. J.R. was cast as Ted Grant/Wildcat in the TV show last year, making his debut in the third season. Ted Grant entered the series as a former boxer and current gym owner for underprivileged children. As the show progresses, fans have been excited to see hints that lead up to his big reveal as Wildcat, his vigilante persona. Preparing for this role has helped him gain a deeper appreciation for boxing. The second season of the STARZ series, Power, will include a lot more of J.R.’s mysterious character, Julio. The show follows a high profile nightclub owner, Ghost, who also runs an exclusive drug dealing organization on the side. That’s when Julio steps in. Julio becomes Ghost’s right-hand man and second in command. Premiering June 6th, viewers will finally get an in-depth look into his story and find out why he’s one of Ghost’s most trusted confidants. “This year, things really seem to spiral out of control. The stakes are ridiculously high and Julio plays an intricate part in making sure things stay as tight as possi-

ble.” He also shared his excitement for fans to see how his character manages to twist the plot this season. J.R. has also enjoyed working with the cast, such as Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, who plays Ghost’s mentor and is also the show’s executive producer. “50 is a trip!” says the humble actor. “We crack jokes all day. I love how dedicated he is to the growth of his character. I think people are going to be very surprised.” When J.R. was just a child, he and his family made the big move from Cuba to South Florida. His favorite family traditions include Christmastime back home with his family. “Lots of good Cuban food and salsa dancing – can’t beat that!” Today, he resides in Los Angeles and newly enjoys playing golf. “Now, I just have to stop hitting trees, water, and people and it’ll be perfect!” he playfully remarks. Aside from boxing to prepare for his role, his workout routine consists of tennis, hiking, and some yoga classes. With his career on the rise, there’s no telling what heights J.R. will reach. He gushed over his fondness for film and how he would enjoy to be involved in other facets of the industry, stating he will definitely love to direct in the future. He also dishes on some of the many actors he would love to work with. “There are so many great actors out there, but I love the work Mark Ruffalo is doing.” Presently, J.R. loves all the projects he’s involved in, “I feel like we really stepped up our game for Power’s Season 2, and I’m sure I can speak for all of us when I say…I can’t wait for June 6th!” ■

AndreaIervolino

A

ndrea Iervolino is living proof that the American Dream still exists. The Italian-Canadian film producer started to work in the film industry at the age of 16 in Italy. Now, at 28 years old, he has already made over 40 films. Since he started the production company, Ambi Pictures, with Italian power woman Lady Monika Bacardi, Iervolino made a great impact on the Hollywood market. In 2014, Ambi Pictures produced 14 films – each with top actors. From The Humbling with Al Pacino to All Roads Lead to Rome with Sarah Jessica Parker. Right now, James Franco’s directorial debut In Dubious Battle (also starring Franco) is the hot project of the moment. The handsome mastermind, Iervolino, enjoys his time on set while staying on top of business; developing new projects in Ambi Picture’s offices worldwide. We were delighted to learn that he wholeheartedly enjoys a special relationship with Miami – both on the business and leisure front. And, we couldn’t wait to learn about all the details! In Miami, you can catch me… At some fantastic restaurants, like Casa Tua, and even at The Cheesecake Factory, having one of their delicious cheesecakes!

“Miami has the largest and richest Italian community in the United States. Already, for this reason when I come here, I feel at home.”

The biggest misconception about Miami is… That Miami is only a touristic and party town. Miami is also an amazing multiethnic city, where the people work very hard, especially the Latin population who arrived here to follow the American Dream. There are very interesting neighborhoods for that matter, like Little Havana. I enjoy the wonderful cultural exchange and the integration that this city has mastered. The last restaurant I enjoyed in Miami was…. Casa Tua, one of my absolute favorites. When I go there for dinner, I usually order the Burrata with organic tomatoes and Basil, and the Taylor Bay Scallops with Ligurian Extra Virgin Olive Oil...It’s really special! What surprised me most about Miami was… The real surprise was when I discovered that Miami has the largest and richest Italian community in the United States. In fact, there’s also one of the biggest Italian Consulates. Already, for this reason when I come here, I feel at home. Aside from the weather, the best reason to return to Miami is… Because it is the best place to work, relax, and enjoy yourself all at once. Business easily meets pleasure here, which is much appreciated by any business traveller. The first time I became really curious about Miami was… I have been working on film sets since the age of 16, so of course Scarface really grabbed my attention. The screenwriter Oliver Stone, the director Brian De Palma and the lead actor Al Pacino, make the perfect triangle. And Miami, makes the perfect location! Now, I work in Miami quite often and I’m the co-producer of Al Pacino’s latest film (The Humbling by Barry Levinson)… I can really say that sometimes dreams do come true! ■
