For being there, for showing up, for knowing our rights and teaching them, for legally observing in Kermit green hats, for intuiting the next place of action and going there, for having an emergency cell phone number to write on our palms, for endless meetings with rambling and loquacious clients, for making legal spaces humanly accessible, for rolling with the mystery of clients defending themselves, for briefs that carry the truth if not the day (and sometimes both), for being a guild a team a movement, for remembering history and honoring the ancestors, for telling the story in late hours at the anchor bar, for the sleeplessness of night and waking anyway to the day, for opening movement in the law, for taking on losing cases, for winning against all odds, for hanging Detroit Corporation Counsel out to dry, for de facto belief in a higher authority, for classy action, for street law, for closing arguments that walk a bold fine line, for honoring the last vestige of democracy under emergency management, for being brutally frank at press conferences, for calling lies by name and letting the chips fall, for claiming the law not as master but as servant of justice‌ Thank you from Water Warriors All.
