CONTENTS 1 Retirement Center with Allotment Gardens
T he purpose of architectura l design is to create a better living environment for everyone. What the architect has to do is listen to what the client really wants. During the five years of undergraduate study, I learned to explore the needs of building users in addition to the space of deliberation and construction research.

CONCEPT
SITE CONTEXT
I offered a project of allotment gardens mixed with elderly care system which has the potential to resonate with the neighborhood context and psychological care of the elderly. The project presents a relatively development from concept to structure and spatial elements, from private to public. Based on a fixed framework supporting flexible infilling. Meanwhile, allotment garden plays the roles of link between kids around and senior citizens .
This project located in a block of fully development in Xi’an. The target people is not on ly the long stay elderly people but also senior citizens who need to satisfy the daily life nearby. In addition, the site is located in a very busy intersection of the block, so I a llocated the area around the building as the city squares and city gardens, so as to solve the problem of high street density, providing more greening space for communication and children's activities.

Frameworks are the places of pla n t in g, dr y in g, pro cessin g and storage sites. Firstly letting the elderly participate in every steps of planting activities which co n t rib u t es t o t h e h ea l t h o f the elderly as well as increase the topic between the elderly. Secondly, the crops can be used as food for everyday eating. The elderly can also invite their families to taste together. Last but not the least, I hope that some primary school students would like to be invited to visit the center, asking the elderly for some knowledge o f pla n t ing, ta st ing t he food planted by the old. It is beneficial o f boa rdening knowledge o f children and also strengthening the o lds communication with outside. They can also continue their own value.

CONCEPT My concept is to introduce the "catalyst" that activates the whole area, breaking the darkness and stillness with a bright, vivid and modern figure. At the same time, to show respect for the industrial heritage, the building is still in a regular square shape. The bright red box is within the white box. The columns are thin which make it looks like floating in the air. The translucent skin is made of perforated panels which give it a sense of penetration.

The site of the project is located in the middle of the area of the 1980s industrial heritage. After 2000, it was transformed into a part of the art campus of Xi'an University of Techno logy and Architecture. S ome elements of the industrial heritage were r et a in ed in t h e p r e l im in a r y transformation, the large space of the factory was divided into cultural creation, meeting, cafe and so on. On the facade, the distinguishing features of o ld ste el mills a re retained, wi t h some graffiti, glass curtain walls, etc added. As par t of the ar t campus, the square will also take part in temporary exhibitions and gatherings.
INDUSTRIAL HERITAGE 1960
1980 Industrial heritage has important historical value. They bear witness to the profound impact of industrial activity on history and today. Industrial heritage, which is created by human beings and needs long-term preser vation and extensive communication, is an integra l par t of human cultural heritage.
18
2000 Relying on the "industrial heritage" and taking the "design creativity" as the theme, we will transform and regenerate an old factory which was once very splendid and now abandoned. After transformation, it not only reflects the vitality of urban art and the spirit of The Times, but also realizes the cultural continuity and urban regeneration.

CONCEPT On the basis of surveying and mapping the Gao’s Court, I used its axis, construction rhythm and roof form. But the roofs and walls of the new buildings are blended into one, which is totally different from the complex structure of traditional Chinese architecture. T he 10-room boutique guest house has given up more space to public functions, hoping that more social events will take place here and explore the spatial patterns of group relationships. The first courtyard of the building is open to the public. The functions of reception, sharing kitchens and block living rooms are integrated. At the same time, residents will g o in to t he co ur tya rd fre ely. Elderly people and children can also have a sit there.

SITE CONTEXT The base of the project is located in Beiyuanmen Historical Block, one of the three national historic preservation blocks in Xi'an. Because the block is an Islamic ethnic gathering area, it is also called "Moslem Street". The northern side of the project is the most important historic building of the entire street - Gao’s Court. Now,Moslem Street and Gao’s Cour t have a lready become a famous tourist attraction with folk and local cuisine. In such a densely populated and relatively complex environment,

In such a densely populated and relatively complex environment, I hope to place a lightweight and harmonious building with modest attitude, At the same time I hope to use this characteristic space to increase the openness of these blocks. Considering that most of the users of the building are family travelers with children, and there is no place specia lly for children in the whole street. So I used the way children‘ s origami. The folded boards are roofs and cour tyards so t hat t he who le building is full of fun, and the uneven ground of the venue can let children playing around all over the area.

Urban Construction Research
CONCEPT “Urban furniture”, stemmed from two ideas from investigation. First, was the concept of attracting to urist s, improving ser vice qua lity and bet ter displaying the historic va lue of the block and local folk customs. Second, was old neighborhoods update. T he design of Urban furniture combines the two ideas together while responding to the specific qualities of the site, creating the public nodes for socializing and performance. Through the activity that Urban Furniture creates street performance to casua l chance encounters, the project’s goa l was to connect people to one another and to the space in a new way."Through the application of the signage system, pavement design and insta llation system in the whole community, Local residents and tourists can better share the who le Stele Forest block, showing the historical value and fo lk characteristics of the block.
