AVALANCHE CHUTE
RED MTN OVERLOOK
Avalanches are common in this region of the Continental Divide. The Avalanche Chute is a reminder of the intense snow storms during the winter season and the efforts taken to keep the highway open year round.
YANKEE GIRL MINE
RED MTN CITY
The iconic Yankee Girl Mine can be easily seen from the highway and is accessed by a side road. Some restoration has already been completed to preserve this structure.

Red Mountain Pass Landmarks
The Uncompahgre Water Shed and the Animas River Water Shed boundary mark the southern most limits of the study area. This sign also marks the top of the Red Mountain Pass.
