OT3: The Way God Rules – Independent Study Day

Reading

Monday:

1. Verses in Response Section 2. Exodus 1-18

Response Psalm 103:19 says "The LORD has established His throne in the heavens, And His sovereignty rules over all." 1.

Using the following verses briefly explain how God rules over (A)the physical world Is.45:5-7,12,18; Col.1:16-17; Hb.1:1-3. (B) animals Ge.9:2; Dt.32:11-12; 1Kgs.17:4, 6; Mt.8:20; 17:27 & (C) People 2 Chr 16:9, Jn 14:23, Ro 2:4, 1Ki 18:21, Isa 1:19-20, 1 Ki 17:1 2. As you read through these chapters of Exodus take note of God's interactions with Moses, Pharaoh and Israel. In what ways is God ruling over them? Discuss how God chooses to direct, influence or control the people and flow of events. 3. Explain to the best of your understanding what God is working to accomplish in Israel, Egypt and the rest of the world and history through these events.

Tuesday:

The King's Rule First Half (including every footnote and endnote contained in it)

1. What are the two required characteristics which God has that qualifies Him as having the right to guide, direct, and control the affairs of mankind? 2. What is Physical Law? 3. Define influence. 4. Explain the difference between influence and a compelling force. 5. State the significance of I Cor.10:13 (There is no temptation...) in regard to influences. 6. On page 8 in The King’s Rule, the will is described as “the ability to …” 7. Define: "Moral law". 8. State the significance and importance of the content in each footnote and endnote.

Wednesday:

The King's Rule Second Half (including every footnote and endnote contained in it)

1. What is control using coercion? 2. Why must God sometimes use coercion on people? 3. Can God use causation in salvation? Why or why not? 4. According to the chart on p. 24-25 in King’s Rule, what are the seven differences between the physical realm law and the spiritual realm? 5. Using the same chart, reason through and answer the following: Why would a person receive no punishment or reward for anything done when he is used by God in causation/coercion? 6. Should the Christian be regulated by moral law (Hope and Fear) or by grace? 7. What are the five different means God has for controlling men and societies and for directing the course of history? 8. A law without consequences is not law but what? 9. State the significance and importance of the content in each footnote and endnote.

Exodus 19-40

1.

Explain why God chose these ten Commandments and not others? 2. Each of the Commandments (Exodus 20) is a protection of relationship. Briefly list the commandments and explain what relationship they are protecting. 3. (Continued from Monday) As you read through these chapters of Exodus take note of God's interactions with Moses and Israel. In what ways is God ruling over them? Discuss how God chooses to direct, influence or control the people and flow of events. Especially discuss the events in Exodus chapters 32 through 34.
