Complete separation.) Live goat presented High priest transfers the sins of the nation upon the scapegoat Scapegoat sent into the wilderness by a man in readiness; (everything already prepared; nothing carelessly done) goat goes away to a place where nobody is High priest takes off the linen garments, never to wear them again Cleanses again makes burnt offering for himself and the nation fat burned and the smoke goes up to God The man who released the goat, takes another and puts on uncontaminated clothes sin offering and blood totally burned up The person who touched this sinful stuff has got to get cleansed again. Shall happen at a specific time once each year Special day • humility • no work; the whole nation focused; set apart • includes all, both Israelites and Gentiles • a special Sabbath day • permanent statute (possibly relates to all history) • no sin is allowed to reside anywhere The obedience of Moses was essential
