SCOPE The report includes the study of how bio-hacking and the latest trends in fashion are merging to create innovative wearable technologies used to aid in maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle.


INTENT

STATEMENT With the rapid increase in biometric technology and the growing trend of biohacking, customers are expecting easy, affordable, and comfortable ways of tracking their health. Through understanding the opportunities of the current fashion trends and healthy-living trends, there is an opportunity to develop a smart, wearable product that assists in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.


VALUE

PROPOSITION For consumers, be that athletes, health care professionals, or the main stream consumer market, who are looking for new and easy ways to maintain a healthy lifestyle and improve overall fitness, our study provides detailed research and data through a cultural understanding and analysis of the psychology behind healthy living. We do this by interviewing and observing both those that currently maintain a healthy and active lifestyle, as well as those wishing to do more or make a change in their life. Unlike basic consumer research, our study will dive deeper into the psychology of how and why individuals track their fitness activities. This will allow greater insights into specifications for potential solutions.

OBSERVATIONS NOTES

when conducting our observations, we targeted areas and establishments and retail enviroments that catered to those who partake in physical exercise and sought items to enhance their performance and track their health.


INTERVIEWS through our interviews, we kept the conversations casual across the board, asking simple questions about how each indivisual feels about the current trends in wearable technology. there were some basic questions to begin and the rest used as some guidelines, to ensure a causual day to day feeling with our interviewees. “I have a lof different apps to track a bunch of things. If there was a way to somehow incorporate each app or unify the best of each so there is only one app to go around and log in everything, that would be easier.” -Karen Eckberg, Active Mother

“The only thing I track is my running. I wear a Garmin watch for two or three of my runs each week to measure the distance and pace of the run. I only like to wear the watch for important workouts, long runs, or races because I try to enjoy my easy paced runs without being concerned over thr pace. for the remaining runs, i run a pace that feels enjoyable and I run a route that I already know the distance.” -Keely Eckberg, Cross Country Runner

02 ANALYIS

FRAME INSIGHTS EXPLORE CONCEPTS


once our initial research was completed, we began the process of organizing and understanding each point of data we collected, from secondary research to our primary research. at this point in our process. we realized our initial idea of what the market wanted was completely different. it gave us the opportunity to broaden our ideas and forced us to step back from what WE thought and focus on the raw data in front of us.

after the majority of our research had been conducted, we began mapping the data in various models to help formulate insights.

clustering continued. as we clustered down from our original data (yellow post its), we began to see correlations and groupings of data that could potentially lead to a final solution or insight.

once we clustered our data down a third time (pink post its), we began sketching possible insights. this helepd us to get all the basic ideas on paper and see where each team member overlapped in their solution ideation. through clustering the sketches, we were able to see correlations between raw data and trends/soultions.

when we finished affinitizing our data into the final green post its, we matched the combined sketches with every data set to further narrow the choices for a solution.

03 SYNTHESIS

upon the completion of our affinitization process and solution iteration sessions, we narrowed our solutions down to five possible insights to proceed forward with by using a specific design criteria triangle and user persona chart, all based on information generated from our data. we then presented our possible solutions to a group of individuals to recieve feedback on market desires.

Due to my class schedule, I am not able to monitor or pay attention to my health as much as I would like to. I would like to monitor my health by tracking various activities such as blood pressure, heart rate, weight, steps walked, etc. The current products available in the market are a little heavy, and I tend to forget the ones I have at home. It would really beneficial if there was a way to integrate soemthing with my existing routine.

When I workout, I keep a detailed record of my body and what I am capable of. I track my what I eat, calories burned, and weight. Sometimes it gets irritating to have my headphones or cell phone with me while working out and I have to keep it aside for some of the workout. I track everything through a few different apps and devices, but it would be great to encorporate all of these into one easy to use product or service.

I am alway on the go, juggling work and kids. I sometimes feel like I never get a free moment to myself. I workout or practice yoga and meditate when I have some free time to keep my body fit always. I have gone to a trainer a few times and will go to some fitness classes as well. I currently track my steps and calories burned but would like to know some more information about my body as a whole.

At this point in my life, I do not work out quite as much as I would like. I stay somewhat active by walking most places, but thats about it. I know that I am not in the greatest shape, but want to makle a chane in my life, and need a little bit of assistance to tell me how my body is doing and what exactly I should be doing to reach my goals. I need to be motivated in my day to day life a bit more to get to where I want to be.

It is my job to stay fit and at the top of my physical performance. I keep a detailed record of my body, and have assistance form not only apps, but health professionals. I currently have some of the best accessories to track my health and performance but I am interested in 24 hour tracking. I would love to have a seamless experience while I am working out or during training.

04 SOULTION

REALIZE OFFERINGS


once our final insights and data were gathered, we forged forward with one final product to place on the market. after nine weeks of in depth research, we feel this product incorporates all that our market base desires and is on trend with where wearable technology and healthy living is going.


SOULUTION

IDEATION based on user data and insights, we proceeded forward designing a trackining patch to be discreetly worn by the users. we pulled from user feedback about the solution being seamless with their existing routines, hightech while fashionable, and provide constant and continuous health data, connected to their smartphones. we began by exploring various shapes and sizes

once a form and shape was decided on, we began to sketch out possible sizes and packaging ideas for our solution. through researching the technology involved to make our prototype, we were able to determing the perfect ergonomic size.

to give customers an easy understanding of the capabilities of the patch, photographed our product in action.


APPLICATION INTERFACE

in order to give our customers the full connectivity they desired, we also designed the beginnings of an application that integrated every aspect of out tracking device into one easy to use interface. we wanted to eliminate as many of the other applications as possible in order to crate one overall seamless tracking center. further down the road we hope to create a full community of those interested in tracking and connecting.
