HYBRID CITIES AND LANDSCAPES The filterbelt is located within the Ontario Greenbelt, caught in between the districts of Caledon and Halton Hills. A significant portion of the site is dedicated to farms and forestry, with the Credit River cutting through the entire site. With a relatively low supply of fresh water in the area, most of which is drawn from local aquifers, there must be reuse of on-site water resources. The primary concern is the address the prevention of furthur water pollution, and then to address the filtration of the Credit River, as the water is undrinkable. There are, assumably, many sources to the contaminants within the water, however one of the more underestimated causes is the farm. There is a balance required for the use of fertilizer, for overuse will cause nutrient pollution which have environmental ramifications, while the filtration of the Credit River requires the removal of one undesirable element at a time. If water is purified and becomes readily available than the demand for life in Halton Hills will increase. The landscape then must change and conform to allow the hybridization of water filtration, living and materials. The question remains; can living within a filtration system be beneficial? Necessary? This project is an exploration of how landscapes can become more useful than we once claimed
