Designers + Color IIT campus was designed by Mies Van Der Rohe in 1940. Since then, the campus became barren and lacked a center of attention. An attraction point for the students. OMA designed the McCormick Tribune Student Center with many paths from across the campus converging at this building, out of which Koolhaas created public spaces inside. His use of the colors Yellow-Orange, Red-Orange, and Blue promote conflicting but necessary emotions. The warm colors found on the exterior and bathroom walls invoke a warm and inviting feeling that warms the space in the winter. The cooler blue shades come from the other glass facades. These tints contrast the warm tones well to provide a more calm space

Perception + Color Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World is about a boy who, in order to start dating the girl of his dreams, he must first defeat all of her 7 Evil Exes. Each ex corresponds with a color which reflects Scott Pilgrim’s emotions throughout the movie.

1. Matthew Patel: Mysterious

2. Lucas Lee: Depression

3. Todd Ingram: Jealousy

4. Roxy Richter: Confusion

5 & 6. Kyle and Ken: Madness

Balance + Color “Balance is the striving to achieve the point of equalibrium between two or more forces. Balance is a means whereby harmony, peace, and connection can be made between the observer and that which is observed. -Color Design: Transforming Interior Spaces

Healthcare + Color

Research has concluded that no one particular color is perfect for healthcare design, but rather a nice ballance between cool colors to make you feel calm and at ease, and warm colors to make you comfortable in a sterile environment. Goals of designing a healing environment: 1. Strive to heal the patient 2. Support the Staff 3. Engage the Family

Rhythm + Color Rhythm and Color can be used to create five types of visual effects: repetition, alternation, progression, continuation, and radiation. If an interior space is lacking visual movement, you can support the space by using multiple color shifts in hue, value, or intensity to create a desired rhythmic order. The purpose of rhythm is to provide an opportunity to move the viewer through the space, creating moments for emphasizing or downplaying various design elements.

Retail + Color

The Tom Ford Flagship Store in the Design District utilizes contrasting values to highlight it’s merchandise. It highlights the merch with bright white displays and contrasts the rest of the walls with dark polished wood panels. These shiny surfaces and bright white walls light up the room to display not only the merchandise, but the customers looking to purchase nice, expensive suites.

Scale + Color Scale and Proportion can enhance and alter the visual perception of our environment. Scale refers to our relationship of the human body to objects whereas proportion refers to the size and arrangement of objects with each other in an interior space.

Your Camera + Color

Hospitality + Color The Fontainbleau Hotel on Miami Beach is known as the most luxurious hotel in Miami. The lobby is no exception when it comes to opulent design. The use of pattern, line, and shape help showcase the lobby and it’s glamorous materials. The lobby utilizes shades of blue, gold, black, and white.
