She also leaves behind life long best friend and sister in law Marvis (Edward) Schultz and her family, and Brother, Arlen (Sharon) Carpenter and his family, all of whom she loves very much. Carol had many special friends and neighbors who she cherished and who she was so fortunate to have as part of her life. Carol was an inspiration to so many in her life. She was a talented artist and sculptor, and used her skills to form grey lumps of clay into beautiful, colorful pieces of art that brought happiness to many thousands of people. Every year she looked forward to meeting her many customers and their families who came to buy her art at the Ann Arbor and the Talbot Street Art fairs. She loved Art and believed that some type of art should and could be a part of everyone’s life. She was a volunteer for many years with the Grand Rapids Art Museum. Carol liked to travel and was fortunate to have wonderful friends that shared her travel adventures around the country and around the world. Most recently she was very involved in Bridge group and enjoyed the game immensely but even more so the friendships and camaraderie she made there. Her bridge group became a second family and her passing has been a shock and loss to all of her friends there. Carol loved to fix things, and was tireless in her building, creating and improving, whether it was with her artwork, the ground up restoration of her 100 year old cabin, or simply removing dirt from an item she had purchased at a thrift store. She could see a diamond in the rough and always had a vision of how to make things better. Her positive outlook and enthusiasm for life served as a beacon to all of those around her. Her glass was always half full and it seemed as though she could move mountains with sheer force of will. She was strong of body and mind and spirit every day of her life and was a rock for so many. She will be always missed and never forgotten. A memorial celebration will be held at a later date. In the meanwhile, please honor Carol’s memory: say a kind word; hug a friend; enjoy a sunny day; fix something; experience some art; keep an open mind: just do it!
