Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Michael Harris will offer the Commencement address when Kettering hosts ceremonies for 358 graduates June 12 in the Rec Center.

Kettering University will host Commencement ceremonies for more than 350 graduates on Saturday, June 12. The 11 a.m. event is free and open to the public in the Connie and Jim John Recreation Center. Dr. Michael Harris, provost and vice president Academic Affairs, will present the Commencement address as a farewell to the University. Harris leaves Kettering at the end of June to become Chancellor of Indiana University’s Kokomo campus. Kettering will graduate 273 undergraduate and 85 master’s candidates during graduation services, with 158 undergraduates and 46 graduate students expected to march during the ceremonies. University President Stan Liberty will preside and Dr. Karen Palmer, Faculty Senate moderator, will be the grand marshal. Sumit Kamboj of Ann Arbor is the undergraduate student speaker.
Here are the highlights of the upcoming ceremony: Saturday, June 12, 2010, 11 a.m. Connie and Jim John Recreation Center No tickets required to attend Commencement The event is free and open to the public Allow 1 1/2 hours for the ceremony Presiding: Kettering University President Stan Liberty Parking is free and available in all campus parking lots Information center will be located on the 1st floor of the CC (outside BJ's Lounge, behind the elevators) from 8:30 - 10:45 a.m. There is no graduation rehearsal Total graduates: 273 undergraduates, 85 master’s candidates

Commencement is June 12 | Kettering University Graduates expecting to march: 158 undergraduates, 46 graduate Expected number of guests: 1,400 Faculty will host a light breakfast in the International Room, Fifth Floor of the Campus Center, 8:3010 a.m. Recreation Center doors open at 9 a.m. for visitors to arrive and be seated Faculty and staff members assemble for the Processional between 10-10:55 a.m. in the Third Floor, Recreation Center Graduates assemble on the first floor of the Campus Center (just outside BJ's Lounge) between 10:30-10:55 a.m. Formal processional begins at 11 a.m. Grand Marshal: Dr. Karen Palmer, Faculty Moderator Commencement Speaker: Dr. Michael Harris Dr. Michael Harris, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, is currently in the closing weeks of his tenure at Kettering. He will become the Chancellor at Indiana University - Kokomo July 1, leaving Kettering after three years of service. Dr. Harris has been Kettering’s chief ranking academic officer since July 2007 and has been responsible for all aspects of the academic mission of the university, including oversight of academic budgets, the appointment of faculty and all academic and curricular matters. In addition, he had responsibility for student affairs which includes student’s co curricular activities and services, residence halls and Greek Life. Dr. Harris championed a number of important initiatives on Kettering’s campus. Read more about Dr. Harris. Undergraduate Student Speaker: 1 Sumit Kamboj will offer comments to his fellow graduates. Originally from India, he will earn bachelor’s degrees in Computer Engineering and Computer Science, with a minor in International Studies. He was a software developer with Tegrit Technologies in Livonia, MI, for his co-op experience. He has been active on campus in Kettering Student Government, the International Club and tutoring on campus and has participated in many Kettering events through the years. OUTSTANDING THESIS AWARD: 1 Amanda Andersen of Clarkston, Mich., for “The Use of Gas
Chromatography To Analyze Biogas Samples With A Focus on Process Management and Forensic Analysis." A Biochemistry major, her co-op was with Dr. Jennifer Aurandt, where she worked on the Swedish Biogas project.
