Chancellor Michael Harris has made it a top priority to create a more welcoming atmosphere where students are responsible for ensuring guests are greeted with a smile and even taking guests to their destination on campus.

"The new center is a welcoming, engaging and friendly place for everyone and shows a great sense of pride in our campus," Harris said. "We are proud our students will work here and make a positive first impression of Indiana University Kokomo." Student Jennifer Miller said she's excited to be a part of this welcoming team and to share her enthusiasm with those who visit campus. "It is a beautiful Welcome Center, and the students are going to do a great job as campus representatives," Miller said. "I'm proud we will be visitors' first contact at IU Kokomo." Kathy Ross, director of the Center for Teaching, Learning and Assessment, is glad the new center offers student jobs. She said having students working there shows confidence in their ability to represent IU Kokomo. "Working in the center will give students a sense of responsibility as they help others, and a sense of pride and ownership in the campus. This is a positive move not only for the students, but for IU Kokomo," Ross said.
