Michael Harris (born January 6, 1956) is an Israeli-American political scientist and university administrator. He is currently Dean of and Professor at the College of Public Service and Urban Affairs at Tennessee State University [1] and a Fellow at SUNY's The Levin Institute. [2]

Born in South Africa, Harris immigrated with his family to Israel as a child. He is married to Tali Harris and has three sons, Ronen, Asaf, and Amit. [3] Harris holds a bachelor's degree in economics and business administration from Bar-Ilan University (1982), a master’s degree in Public Policy from TelAviv University (1986), and a Ph.D. in public policy from Indiana University (1993). After initially specializing in electoral politics and public policy, Dr. Harris' current research focuses on academic decisionmaking and developing learner-centered curricula within universities to improve student performance outcomes.

Leadership and academic career Dr. Harris is Dean of and Professor at the College of Public Service and Urban Affairs at Tennessee State University. [1] He is also a Fellow [2] of The Levin Institute [2] at the State University of New York. From 2010 to 2012, Dr. Harris served as the sixth Chancellor of Indiana University Kokomo and a Professor of Public and Environmental Affairs, Business, and Education.[4][5][6][7][8][9][10] He also served as Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs and Student Affairs at Kettering University in Flint, Michigan from 2007 to 2010.[11][12] Harris was the Vice President for Academic Affairs at Ferris State University (2004-2007), [13] a faculty member in the Department of Political Science and subsequently Associate Provost at Eastern Michigan University (1994–2004), [14][15] and a faculty member in the Graduate Program of Public Policy at Tel Aviv University (1993-1994). [16][17] In 2012, the mainstream Hebrew-language newspaper, Maariv, named Prof. Harris as the most successful Israeli academic working outside of Israel.[18][19][20] The Kokomo Perspective also named him their Person of the Year for 2011. [21][22] He also received the Best in Class 2009 Award from the Keen Entrepreneurship Education Network and a Honorary Doctorate in Educational Administration from Ave Maria College.
