Greetings from South Africa, we would like to share some thoughts, perspectives and realities with all of you through this booklet. Firstly, last year has been amazing for AIESEC, focusing on the ‘Why’ of AIESEC boosting volume of experiences delivered to all stakeholders across the AIESEC Network. But more importantly it has been a year of lots of realizations (not only exchange realizations) which have given a new and fresh direction to all of us, not only to live AIESEC but also to grow the wonderful idea of AIESEC in the environment around us. For us, at AIESEC South Afirca, there have been several realizations which have made us what we are and what we will be. AIESEC South Africa like every other entity has been striving to live all the six AIESEC Values each day. We carry a rich culture of naturally being passionate about whatever we are doing, we are fun and are driven a lot by ambition & growth, but at the same time we are very hospitable and aware of the environment around us and enjoy being challenged. For AIESEC South Africa 2013 is the year to Build, Connect and Matter, 2013 is the year to RISE! So, everyday when we wake up to go for a meeting, to raise a single intern, a single TN, to plan for an Event, to plan for reception of a trainee, to sit and match, to do a single roll call, we put in our very best intention into it and we want to make it count. We also look forward to increase AIESEC’s impact through creating as many opportunities as we can to make it valuable for everyone, whether it’s a trainee, an EP or a client, otherwise believe me, its not a satisfactory moment for us. I wish you Good Luck and let’s Live AIESEC together!

The GIP EPs from South Africa are the best performing AIESEC members or the best performing students in their department. The GIP screening process is extremely selective. We are focusing on reverse raising for GIP.

Safety & Security A lot of the depictions of crime in South Africa in international media are hyped up and don’t represent the true face of South Africa as we know it. While there certainly is a higher crime rate in South Africa than in other countries with the right attitude, sufficient precaution and situational awareness you will be just fine. Our ICX team will make sure you are aware of what areas to avoid when you arrive, but don’t be frightened away by what you read and see in the media. South Africa is a beautiful country with beautiful people and you will not regret visiting.

Our GIP TNs are usually with large multinational corporations (DHL, Amazon), or with smaller companies who are expanding to international market. We strive to provide the best experiences to our EPs and follow a strict company evaluation before uploading any opportunity.

Companies sponsor interns Good Case Practices Nationally AIESEC South Africa has corporate and academic partners that fund the AIESEC internship for the best performing or deserving students. The institutions that have done so in the past include the University of the Free State, University of Cape Town and the Allan Gray Orbis Foundation. In the coming year we hope to expand this practice further and are already in talks with potential partners to send even more interns abroad in this manner.
20
Modeled after the TV show “The Apprentice with Donald Trump, the Student Apprentice Challenge is a practical learning process through which high potential students compete in a 5 day challenge. Each day is dedicated to a partner company and one day is reserved for AIESEC. Result? Boost in relevance among companies, massive OGX promotion and exposure to top students who can become members of AIESEC.

Intern Reintegration Good Case Practices
Michael Hubbard went to India for a two month internship as one of SA’s first interns in its revival year (2011). Not only did he live a life changing experience but he returned with a desire to impart such experiences on other young people. Since his internship Michael has not only joined AIESEC but become an LCP and now MCVP of AIESEC South Africa. Michael’s story isn’t unique. More and more interns return to become active members of AIESEC Local Committees in South Africa, predominantly in the exchange teams, wishing to deliver more quality experiences.
