The Knysna Yacht Club, South Africa – inspiration for my journey of a lifetime!
Introduction: My trip of a lifetime is a journey which starts in Seoul , South Korea and ends in the Outerbanks of North Carolina, USA. All the places that I will travel to in my yacht I have been to before. In each of these places I have noticed ports for sailors and I have often wondered what it would be like to sail across the sea to visit them. My journey starts in Seoul. From here I sail to the North Mariana islands and dock at Saipan where I spend one week. A week later I sail to Singapore where I spend another week. From Singapore, I leave for Africa! I will dock at the Yacht Club in Knysna, South Africa and I will spend at least three weeks on my favourite continent. From here, I will move on to North America and sail to Corolla in the Outerbanks of North Carolina, USA.
What will I bring with. My yacht needs to be light to cross the huge distances that I will have to travel between Singapore and Africa and also between Africa and North America so I cannot bring too much with me. In Saipan I plan to spend most of my time snorkeling and scuba diving so I will need to bring my scuba diving gear with me. In Singapore I will stay and eat at friends’ homes so I will not need to have too much for this part of the journey. Then in Africa, I will meet my cousin, Robert, and he will join me for the rest of the journey to North America. Once we arrive in North Carolina. We will stay with friends and drive 4x4 vehicles on the beach and hopefully spot many of the wild horse of Corolla trotting on the beach!
Basically, the yacht will need to be equipped with lots of drinking water, a water purifier if my supplies run out, a life boat, life jackets, emergency flares, emergency medical aid kits and a water proof outfit. I will take only emergency food supplies as I will be spending enough time at shore to stock up between countries. I will also take a fishing rod with me! Which Oceans will I cross? (Please see attached map) Firstly, my journey will take me across the Sea of Japan, over the Yellow Sea to Saipan. From there I journey across the Philipine Sea and the South China Sea to Singapore. Then it is across the Indian Ocean to Africa. Then, it is the very long journey across the South Atlantic Ocean and finally the North Atlantic Ocean – ending my journey of a lifetime!
