THE FORUM at MARVIN HALL 2014 | Lawrence, KS
The purpose of this proposal is to activate a project that will transform the culture of the School through the creation of a central “commons” which will include a 121 seat lecture hall and meeting/exhibition space. While modest in size and cost, the Forum will be disproportionately important to the School and to KU in its critically needed function and aesthetic impact. The School has never had a central place for this purpose, a “there” for interaction, welcome, and celebration of the work of its integrated professional programs – a cultural amenity that is common to virtually all design-based schools nationally. While this need has existed throughout the School’s 45 years of occupancy in Marvin Hall, the current opportunity acquisition of a 70,000 square foot warehouse for design/construction research and fabrication and the associated obsolescence of the “builders’ yard” on the proposed site attached to Marvin Hall, and the opportunity to engage the architecture program’s well-qualifed studio 804 for the design and construction of the project during this 2013-14 academic year. The graduate capstone studio has designed and built three higher education buildings of comparable size and complexity over the past three years– to great technical and aesthetic acclaim. The Forum will enrich the School’s professional culture and, in its transparency, invite interaction with the larger University community alongside historic Jayhawk Boulevard. Our goal is to complete the project by the end of this year (Summer, 2014) – serving the critical need of our three departments in creating accommodation for lectures, encouraging interaction of students and faculty, and providing a unique sense of place.

CPH13 LOUNGE CHAIR 2013 | Copenhagen, DK
The CPH13 was designed by myself during My studies at The Danish Royal Academy of Fine Arts. The chair is an example of my eagerness to work with natural materials in the most honest straightforward way. The frame is constructed from solid maple, and assembled into a basic geometric frame. The frame is not only inherently strong but iconic in its shape as-well. The joints are emphasized and honest threw their Mortise and tenon connections. The chair is finished in a single continuous length of Flag Halyard. The weave becomes the chair’s hallmark by highlighting the way in which it was woven in a honest and straightforward way.
