TRANSIT Walking Waypoints
4
TRANSIT, 2013
Project Aim: “To design an urban element system that supports and encourages the practice of routine walking, both for transport and recreational purposes. This should include as a minimum, the provision of rest points for elderly users.”
Full Project CLICK HERE
tranSIT is a hybrid walking waypoint system for urban environments, combining seating with wayfinding and street lighting. It is designed to be minimally obtrusive by utilising wall spaces around cities, improving walkability for people of all ages. The seat is designed with brief rest stops in mind, assuming more social, long-term seating is available at destinations such as shops and green spaces. Staying true to the principles of ‘inclusive design’, the seat is designed to be accessible, comfortable and safe. To help encourage walking amongst the local community, simple walking times to popular nearby destinations and public transport links are provided, along with QR code integration for access to maps and further information. Using the translucency of the solid surface material, LED street lighting is integrated to provide extra security for those walking at night. Power is supplied via a small roof mounted battery and solar unit. This also allows for the possible integration of WiFi or street phone charging.

to work, but instead relies on the ingenuity and beauty of nature to enhance the experiences in the ‘heart of the home’.
The key ideal behind the LivingLight concept is the notion of authenticity- an object that doesn’t need to plug into a wall
This design project was shortlisted as a 2012 Electrolux Design Lab competition finalist.

G-Band Diabetes Monitor
20
G-Band Braun Prize Entry 2012
G-Band, 2012 Continuous Glucose Monitor In general, glucose monitors are bulky, ugly and pay poor attention to the needs of design-conscious diabetic patients. G-Band was created to be as elegant and unobtrusive as possible- simple and honest, both “less and more”. By associating with classic, ‘cool’ designs like the ubiquitous iPod, the G-Band also increases appeal amongst young diabetics, who are typically hesitant to wear ‘pager-like’ devices.

Interface Design The interface of the G-Band wrist monitor was designed to be as uncluttered and unobtrusive as possible, while still displaying accurate and necessary information.
23
“Medical devices are also life devices, and therefore need to feel good and look good for the patients using them 24/7, in addition to keeping us alive
Inductive dock charging

Bandsaw Group Project- Styling.
26
BANDSAW, 2010
This was a group project in which each member of the team was required to design one product in a series of capital goods tools. My responsibility was the Bandsaw design- however the group was required to work together to discuss how styling would be implemented coherently across the whole range of products.

Bandsaw Group Project- Styling
good Design is obviously much more than mere styling. However this early project was still a valuable exercise in team design work.

Sculptural Lighting
WIRED, 2012 WIRED was a short, two week project undertaken as part of my sculpture elective in 2012. Using a spot welder, the process was very much like sketching in 3D, with the final design only taking form after much experimentation.

Cooled LED Downlight
32
COOLED, 2012 Downlight design. LED The concept behind COOLED is simply a lighter, more efficient and environmentally friendly LED downlight design. COOLED has been designed from the ground up to ensure that once the product reaches its end of life, it doesn’t end up contributing to the world’s ever growing stockpile of electronic waste.

HIVE Light w/ Nik Greig
HIVE, 2012 HIVE is a collborative project with Nik Grieg. Prototype luminaire made from layered laser cut profiles. These profiles were glued and then hand machined and sanded into the final form.
35
The lamp’s inbuilt LED module was designed from the ground up to avoid using a standard bulb within the pendant. This makes the Hive lamp a stand-alone product capable of lasting for tens of thousands hours of use.
‘Hive’
Lasercut plywood, PVA, shellac, thermoformed plastic. Custom LED heatsink.

Causeway is an interactive kinetic sculpture for urban settings. Part play-scape, part social furniture, Causeway is designed to create interactive experiences between friends and strangers alike. Each concrete block is linked via hydraulics to another paired block, and when moved, creates a matching reaction elsewhere on the sculpture. The system is purely human powered, requiring no external pumps, and is made from durable and sustainable materials.
