Introducing the Bova AI Beef Sire Brochure for 2025. We are looking forward to releasing some exceptional new sires across several breeds this season.
We are very excited to offer a new red & white Chocolat d’Ochamps son, Ballyart Reward BB1743 who is out of a beast of a cow. Reward has exceptional width and a performance packed pedigree guaranteed to produce show champions. Our Angus sires have been boosted by a few additions from the Appelbe & Ballyart herds. We have added a new Charolais sire, Drumcar Ultimate CH1737, purchased for his maternal and calving lines. We have some other new sires in Hereford, Blonde, Wagyu and Blue breeds to offer in the coming months, so please keep an eye on our social pages for details.
The domestic commercial beef market is on a high as a result at present due to declining European beef cow numbers and in calf heifer sale specialists are choosing the Limousin sire Loyal, available in sexed semen, to fetch top prices. Loyal has really taken the heifer trade to a new level with top prices last season. For those looking for show quality with some colour, Ballyart Reward, Rathlyon Quota, Record, Fury Sam, Derreen Jack and many more will appeal to true cattle people that want quality over stars.
With the use of beef AI on dairy herds growing annually, our beef sires suitable for the dairy herd are producing premium progeny that command top prices. Many of our bulls rank in the top 1% for Replacement, Terminal and DBI indexes within and across breed. These indexes will be updated every 2 months by ICBF so please be aware of this when making your breeding decisions.
We constantly strive to source the very best available genetics of each breed, to provide our customers with the most suitable bulls for their market requirements. If you think you have a bull that may add to our stud, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Bova AI wish to say a huge thank you to all of our customers for their continued loyalty to our product. It is much appreciated and we hope to continue our relationship as the company evolves.
We like to see progeny from our sires, so if you have any images from progeny of our bulls, please forward to us via social media platforms or whats app and e-mail. Please ensure image quality and resolution is of a high quality to publish and choose a well lit clean background.
May we take this opportunity to wish you a very successful breeding season, and if you require advice on any bulls that we would recommend, please do not hesitate to contact us.
SEXED SEMEN
Bova AI have continued to work with Sexing Technologies in order to supply high quality 4M sexed female & male semen from some of our top beef sires to our customers. Semen from these bulls may be limited in supply, so please contact us early to book straws from your chosen bull. We have outlined recommendations below for its use. Trials have shown that the best results with sexed semen are when used on natural heats.
Sexed Ultra 4M AI Recommendations
18-22hrs - AI with sexed semen 18-22 hours after first signs of standing heat. Regulate - use temperature regulated thawing unit. Daily - change thawing unit water daily. Weekly - clean thawing unit weekly.
35-37’C - monitor water temperature with thermometer 35-37’C.
45 sec - thaw for approximately 45 seconds.
35-37’C - keep semen temperature regulated to 35 to 37’C.
5 min - use 1 straw of thawed semen per heifer within 5 minutes of initial thaw.
Semen Storage & Handling Guidelines
Handling – work below the frost line of tank. Canisters should be in the neck of the tank for no longer than 10 seconds. Use tweezers to transfer straw to thaw bath in 5 seconds or less.
Thawing – thaw semen in a controlled thaw unit at between 35’C to 37’C. Only thaw enough semen that will be used within 5 minutes. Pre-warm gun to prevent cold shock. Remove straw from thaw unit, shake and dry straw with clean paper. Do not touch straw with fingers.
Loading – load straw into gun with plug end first. Cut straw at right (90’) angle with appropriate cutters and keep straw dry and warm. Place sheath over cut end of straw and lock sheath into gun. Prime gun to remove air bubbles. Wrap loaded gun in paper towel holder to provide a thermal and hygienic protection. Place inside your clothing for transport to cow.
Insemination – follow AI recommendations for insemination.
Disclaimer: Bova AI does not carry any responsibility for, or liability to the purchaser of conventional or sexed semen in respect to loss arising from on farm fertility, which is outside of the control of Bova AI. The purchase of semen does not guarantee fertility or conception. All semen is quality controlled via the latest, internationally recognised, IMV equipment before dispatch.
