VOLUMETRIC VESSELS

Introduce the formal analysis of a painting precedent to generate a kit of parts. These components are transformed from 2D layered planes, colors and regulating lines into 3D forms to generate the character and material of spaces. The design process focuses on the development of these discrete architecture volumes through the digital and material definition of solid geometric volumes into serial, cross-sectional voids. The characters are catalogued as a taxonomy of primary material, geometric, spatial lements that will inform program and a site driven architectural composition.

Villa Savoye Build at: 1929 City: Poissy, France. Architectural style: modernist Architect: Le Corbusier - Villa Savoye offered an escape from the crowded city for its wealthy patrons - The villa shape is a floating box, building materials are reinforced concrete - Corbusier consider to combine the car into the building, we can see it in the shape of first store plan. - Le Corbusier using ramps to have a continues movement from the enter of the house

Design Fundamentals 102

Five basic principles: 1. Support of ground-level columns, elevating the building from the earth and allowing the garden to be extended to the space beneath and allowing vehicle movement. The pillars location by using the principal ratios of the golden section. 2. A functional roof serving as a garden and terrace. 3. A free floor plan, allowing walls to be placed freely and only where aesthetically needed. 4. Long horizontal windows for illumination and ventilation with no connection to the pillars. 5. Freely-designed façades functioning merely as a skin for the wall and windows.

Color extract

Introduce Color analysis as a process; constituent elements. Identifying the parts, determining the identity, role, and relationship of the parts within the whole and compositional structure Separating and collecting spatial component parts into a tool kit of volumetric and color elements like the pieces of an architectural game board. We can see four (4) different catalogs; 1) EVOLUTION OF A SHAPE 2) SOLID VOID 3) SCALE 4) COLOR

Armatures of edge and center

Constructing the 2D Center and Edge drawings as a series of 3D Frames (support future volumes.)

Design Fundamentals 102

Combing the armatures together came to a relezation of having a movement on the left side of the painting

Mentioning cold-hot colors at the beginning and seeing a movement at the armatures lead me to base my project on movement of color. As we can see here there's a movement in both y and x-axis.

V7- MODEL WITH PLACED COLORED VESSELS Coloring the vessels and shifting some of the shapes out emphasize my concept of movement of color. The vessels I shifted are the color/orthogonal shapes in order to create a stronger movement.

PRECEDENT-"Termas de Tiberio" LOCATION; Valle del Tena of Aragon, Spain. ARCHITECTS: BelÊn Moneo, Jeff Brock. SURFACE: 8.500 m² (total floor area). BUILT: 2002- December 2007 In the project by Moneo Brock Studio there is a clear desire to integrate the building into its environment, the volume is half buried and seems to emerge from the mountain. The facade's glass blocks, specifically designed for the project, reflect the gray light of the Pyrenees, adding the building to the natural and built environment.

P2 BATH HOUSE The BATH HOUSE organizes the volumetric vessels to introduce the role of section as the primary tool for defining interior space and enclosure. A process of excavation and carving establishes the primary space making and site shaping methods to create inhabitable zones of architecture. Designing the characteristics of the area and volume included within the territory underground, below the horizon. Each space will accommodate the human body, water and light as a cumulative set of experiences using color and material to further define unique qualities, thresholds, and opportunities for entry and view.
