CLANNS UPDATE

U12 hurlers stay on winning course Our U12 hurlers made it two wins out of two after a fine display against a very good Castleknock team. The final score looked one sided but this was mainly due to the dogged defending by the Clanns backs and forwards who didn't give their opponents a second to settle on the ball. Max Morgan made his come back after a gap of several months; he looked as good as ever and got some nice scores. Joe Henchion and the rest of the backs soaked up every bit of pressure while delivering quality ball into the forward line which was well lead by Eli Horan. Progress is very evident with the promise of even better things to come from this team. Clanna Gael Fontenoy 6-5 Castleknock 1-0

Good win for U16 footballers Our U16 footballers hit winning ways in this their latest league fixture at home against O’Tooles. After a very shaky league campaign start against Castleknock, they acquitted themselves very well in their second outing away to league leaders, Templeogue Synge Street, coming up short by just four points. This pattern of improvement has now paid off in their third game with a comfortable seven point win over a visiting O’Tooles. Clanna Gael Fontenoy 3-9 O’Tooles 2-5

U15 girls march on The Division 1 team had a very comprehensive win over neighbours, Kilmacud Crokes,in Belindas College last Saturday . A great all round team effort produced a fine performance. Clanns dominated for most of the hour with Crokes scoring three points in the last five minutes to put a more respectable look on the final score. This makes it two wins from two outings in the league so far as the girls continue to improve. Kilmacud Crokes 1-6 Clanna Gael Fontenoy 6-7 At the same time our Division 5 side produced an emphatic win against St Marks in Sean Moore Park. A fine team performance with excellent shooting from Clanns proved too much for the opposition. Clanna Gael Fontenoy 6-18 St Marks 1-6

Activities will include Gaelic football and hurling skills, fundamental movements, obstacle courses, fun games, cookie blitzes and much more. The cost is just €50 per child. All registrations must be completed online here – http://clannagaelfontenoy.ie/camps/

Minor footballers have tough encounter After a very rewarding first outing against St Patricks Donabate in their Division 2 league our minor footballers came up against much tougher opposition when they took on Cuala in Hyde Park last Sunday morning. Clanns got off to a slow start and by the time they got to the tempo of the game their opponents had already build up a sizeable lead to reach the break with a score line of 4-4 to 1-0. In fairness to our lads they made a much better fist of things in the second half and played good spells of football. Still the hosts ran out comfortable winners. The Clanns scores came from Evan Caulfield (2-0, both penalties), Des Duggan, Conor Hennessy, Michael Hennessy and Seamus McCann (0-1 each).

Club News Club Lotto The numbers drawn in the Lotto 1 draw on March 11th were:  12, 13, 24 and 28 The Lotto 2 Draw numbers drawn were:  11, 15, 25 and 32 There were no winners so the jackpots of €10,000 each roll over to next week.

Coaches Roger McGrath and Maurice Hennessy summed matters up well in the end when stating that this is the standard our players can expect to encounter in Division 2; if they wish to play at that level they’ll need to up their game and, most importantly, they’re perfectly capable of doing so.

The five €20 Lucky Dip Winners drawn were: Elaine McDonnell, Eithne/Des/ William Mooney, Callum, John Donohoe, Pauline Murray. It’s never been easier to play the club Lotto as it can now be played online by clicking here.

Camogie going well at U9 and U12 Last weekend the girls U12 and U9 first camogie blitz matches fell victim to the water logged pitches in Clontarf and Raheny respectively. The girls are enjoying the return to practice and are really putting in huge efforts in training which the coaches are sure will be rewarded in their performances. Their next games are on the weekend of April 7th and 8th. Meanwhile training continues as normal: for the U12s Thursdays at 7pm. New players or anyone returning are always welcome - contact Des Brien (U12) at desbrien@gmail.com or Kevin Moloney (U9) at kevin.moloney@gmail.com with any queries.
