Initial Ideas – Planning

The image on the opposing side is the concept that I want to deliver, for my photoshoot, in my magazine; a dance magazine with features of movement and chaos essentially.

The initial thought I have in mind is to do a Dance Music magazine purely based on one person (which will be the ‘artist’ of the magazine) as she will be the interviewee on my double page spread and my main cover page story. Essentially, I want my ‘artist’ to be into upbeat dance music (it’s always been her dream to be a distinguished musical artist) but she has had a taunting past – her dance music career sparked by her bad past.

The past of my model is going to be relatively heartbreaking; she use to get bullied and no one believed in her or her ambition which led her to stress and anxiety but she overcome these awful times by listening to that which inspired her; dance music, which gave her the determination to fulfil her profound desires.

I believe I can deliver this image via taking photos of a flawless and innocent looking model with relatively

long hair. The reason for this is because I want her to have quite mad/chaotic makeup with her hair nicely styled back, off her face, which will signify the makeup, I will then want her to model quite calmly and elegantly to portray a subliminal message on the makeup; the makeup will signify her bad past but herself in general will portray her achievement of overcoming her past and this is all through turning to Dance Music.

COVER PAGE NAME: For my cover page I’ve had loads of different ideas for names of my magazine: •

Embrace (Accepting something willingly or enthusiastically)

Tactician (someone who uses clever methods in order to achieve something) Elegance (a combination of graceful stylishness, distinction, and good taste in appearance, behaviour, or movement) Sublime (so awe-inspiringly beautiful as to seem almost heavenly) •

“When Words Fail, Music Speaks”

“What’s behind the music?”

CONSTRUCTION -IMAGERYI’ve thought thoroughly about the use of imagery in my magazine and initially how I’m going to construct them into my products. Subsequently, I think the idea that I like the most is having my structure assemble like a song; a song has a start, middle and an end, and that’s what my series of photos will portray.

I’m going to be doing a photoshoot of my model with three different looks; the first being minimal makeup, hair down with dark clothing and an Aztec jacket, the second being bold makeup with just dark clothing and the third being really extreme chaotic makeup, hair up in a pony tail and pale clothing. I believe this will convey how my

‘artist’ will express herself when she’s down: at first she will be calm, like the beginning of the song, then she will perk up a bit: thinking on how to resolve her feelings getting to the root of her pain/problem, like the chorus of a song (main section) and then she will release the tension, stress, anxiety or whatever she feels via singing and dancing, like the ending of the song.

FRONT COVER – my front cover image will be the ‘chorus’ of the song, so relatively important. It will be the middle section of my actual photoshoot but I believe that having bold makeup with just dark clothing will entice the reader more due to the bold connotation of it. •

CONTENTS PAGE – My contents Image will be the ‘start’ of the song, so this will be the beginning image of my photoshoot: minimal makeup, hair down, dark clothing and an Aztec jacket. This image will be denoting the calm side of her. I believe conveying her calm side on the contents (and the relatively bold imagery of her on the cover) will portray a variety of different sides to my model which will appeal to a lot of people because they would want to know what the ‘artist’ has come up with next, this will also further represent the ‘chaotic’ life that she lives. •

DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD – this will be the ‘end’ of the song so this will portray the crazy side of my model: really extreme chaotic makeup, hair up in a pony tail and pale clothing, this will denote the dance music side of her and will also show her expressing herself. •

Due to the storyline of my artist, I want my magazine to be extremely serious (because her past isn’t funny so having a serious magazine will convey the importance of her story). I want this magazine to address my readers directly and I will do this by using first person: so I will be telling them (readers) the interview of myself and the model. I will use informal/chatty language, maybe a bit of colloquial language peppered in there as well, because this will link to my demographic audience: 16-19year old females. I may contain Style Guides from my ‘artist’ as well to include a bit of Fashion in my magazine, because the majority of teenage girls like Fashion. Lastly, I want the colour scheme to link with my dance theme so preferably quite vibrance but bold purples, pinks, red, blues and so on, I also want my typeface to be of block writing font and quite boldly structured.
