next along the over-hang (an idea that translates to the company’s “transitions” in time). With the additional use of materials, components such as traditional red brick and warming rustic wood can be paired with much more modern, opac/reflective, and even glossy uses of glass, within both ponywalls and various windows. This is grounded with the final, and popular use of, industrial steal. It is here that we are able to see a visually successful marriage of the old connecting with the new.
Notes: Showcasing a Contemporary twist on a traditional facade: this exterior boasts long straight lines of light rustic wood, suspended over-hangs (varying in height), red brick, concrete and steel elements. In addition to floor-to-ceiling store-front windows, a clerestory is the final touch for offering the interior, additional natural lighting throughout. The design concept is a subtle presentation that parallels an understanding of the company’s overall "timeline" and “historical lineage.” Obvious, bold and elongated lines, move from one height to the

EXTERIOR FACADE & OUTDOOR SEATING DESIGN: Being innovative is the ability to be bold and stand out. Creating a unique touch within this particular space is about finding that warm and welcoming "entry" & outdoor (unexpected), lounge environment. This design is capable of speaking to Kroger's existing customer base in addition to targeting a new consumer market base with the creation of a “third place” setting.
MATERIALS: Light, rustic wood tones, warm the exterior facade, helping to create an inviting atmosphere amongst the more cold and industrial based elements found within the structural and foundation elements. A traditional, red variety brick speaks to the local heritage and cultural relevance of Savannah. This small touch helps in supporting Kroger’s desire for a greater community based connection in each of their stores. Thick, textured & tempered - outdoor glass, helps with creating an updated and modern feeling. It offers an overall balance to the design, encouraging for design interest while not hindering surrounding visibility. Concrete outdoor flooring is excellent for high traffic flow in and out of the store entry. With a variety of colors, the durability and low up-keep factors make this material ideal both practical & supportive for the design. Dark, brushed metal, iron outdoor chairs ground the design and offer an idea of strength & stability speaking to the validity of Kroger as a whole.

FRONT ENTRY & COFFEE SHOP DESIGN: The interior entry and coffee shop design, as well as material selection is about the expression and feeling of Kroger’s overall culture and historical
transition from one period in time to the next. The goal was to create an updated and progressive space, while still paying homage to those transitions. Small examples can be seen throughout i.e. the continuation of the exterior red brick flowing seamlessly into a white quartz countertop and white subway tiled wall. History, warmth & character of the past meets with the fresh, clean & crisp elements of the future. STAINED CORK: TABLES AND CHAIRS
