Valentine’s Day, a day where we
choose to lavish our sole attention on the person we love and cherish, what a magical time it is. A day set a side just for love. Where we will buy gifts to adorn them with, celebrating the love that you share through the act of gifts, whether they are soft teddy bears, luscious chocolates, decadent wine and delicious meals, or to take advantage and use the magic of love to set the scene for a romantic proposal.

But as we sit and take in the love of each other, may we never forget the love that has been before us. That is why we at Miss to Mrs Mag HQ we would like to reflect on the ‘History or Valentine’s Day ’. Through every kiss, hug and cupid’s song let’s look back together! The root of Valentines history is surrounded in mystery, but this one possible story made me think.
“St Valentines was also known as a priest called Valentinus. An apparently martyred priest due to his conviction of young lovers, and marrying them despite the decree set by the Emperor Claudius II, whom had ruled that single men made better soldiers than married men with families. He therefore decreed that no soldiers could marry. However St. Valentine felt the injustice and married the lovers in secret. This is just one of the stories surrounding this mystery. If it’s true.. I feel it’s even more of a reason to celebrate the love we feel for those around us”. Valentine’s Day dates back as far as the 5th century; but its popularity would grow in the 17th century with the act of sending gifts within the month of February. The wars during this time would find soldiers sending handmade cards and penning love notes to their lovers; which is a beautiful thought when we consider the stark contrast of war and love which seem to be so entwined. What Love always shows us, is that it will always find away, no matter the difficulties, time or place. We will always find ways to celebrate the love we share. Valentine’s Day, is a day we can all share and put aside

any worries or stresses we may feel, but most of all it shows us what we should be focusing on which is that we need to show each other lots of love. So let us share this love by helping you with your big day… let your stresses be set aside and look through our wonderful exhibitors to see what they have to share on this of the month of love. Cupids Arrow Finishing touches can be what brings your wedding to life and are a great way to tie in your particular theme elegantly and subtly. For a fun favour, leave handwritten messages or love notes if you will in glass bottles at each place setting. This is a great way to incorporate valentines into your reception and will be sure to leave your guests with a smile on their face. You could leave a note saying “We’re in love...with you! Thank you for coming” or something along those lines as it just adds a bit of cuteness and perhaps displays your personality.
Roses on valentine’s Day is a given and a sprinkling of red roses everywhere is a beautiful touch however other blooms can be just as romantic and stylish. Lilies, Amaryllis and even Orchids offer a dramatic yet romantic display or if you want non-floral elements, try adding feathers or crystals to your centrepieces. You could look for inspiration from your own love story or take your decor cues from your favourite holiday destination like Paris- it’s all about being creative and adding sentiments which are memorable. You could also add some mood lighting such as having a candle-lit dinner nothing says romance quite like that! Candelabras or splashes of soft light are another option and will make your space inviting and will look spectacular in photographs. If you’re thinking about entertainment, why not look into getting a magician to entertain your guests. Whilst it is not typically ‘valentine’ it is fun and will keep your guests occupied and don’t forget the queen of hearts card, that’s valentines enough! Hiring a singer is obviously a popular choice of entertainment and love songs are the only thing to be played on Valentine’s Day so it’s a perfect way to tie in your theme.

Romantic Reception All brides-to-be know how crucial choosing the right venue is- but how about choosing somewhere which fits in with a Valentine’s Day theme? Well fear no more as we have all the hot picks for the perfect place to marry, ranging from castles to hotels. Everybody knows Valentine ’s Day is filled with flowers, love hearts and chocolate so what a perfect theme to incorporate into a wedding to give it that extra oomph.

Hotels are a wonderful place to get married; perhaps one with sprawling grounds or one which has charming character, for example Penny Hill Park in Bagshot, Surrey. They are often more than willing to incorporate a theme into the design of the wedding which will leave the bride stress free (or slightly less stressed shall we say). For something even more romantic, how about looking into castles which accommodate a wedding- this will really scream love and romance to your guests. I heart Jewellery Every woman knows diamonds are a girl’s best friend and a wedding is the perfect occasion to give and receive some gorgeous pieces of jewelry. It is a tradition for brides to give a little something to their bridesmaids so let’s explore some options. Necklaces are a thoughtful gift and can often be packaged with sweet messages from the bride inside the box- the necklaces can again fit into your theme, for example they could be little love hearts or a lock and key design to remind your bridesmaids of your day. Moving on to presents for the bride- the most important part! Young Ones Children are the most delightful addition to any wedding celebration. They are known to steal the show with their adorable little antics. Itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s important to include the little ones by giving them a special task for them to do. Successfully including children in the ceremony takes a bit of extra planning. Children may need to be sure of their roles within the wedding, but be sure to make it more fun than a task. Involving them in discussions and personally inviting them to take part gives the youngsters a level of responsibility and hopefully they will be more willing to perform on the day. Little ones love to play dress up, so taking them shopping for beautiful dresses or a grown-up-suit, can be a very special and memorable for time them, and most of all an adventure they can join with you!. Do bare in mind, that once you have included these little angels, your day becomes secondary (in their mind) itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s their special day! If you already have children prior to your big day, establishing them as part of your marriage union, is an integral part of the equation, it simply establishes how their important their role is in your new life together.

Sweets For My Sweet
Sweets for my Sweet Chocolate, love heart sweets and all things sugary should be the only thing consumed on Valentine’s Day in my opinion! This brings me on to everything sweet for your wedding. Sweet carts are a popular choice to add a pop of colour and fun for your guests and I think they are a perfect addition for a Valentine’s Day wedding. Companies can offer a wide choice of sweets for you to pick from and they even offer sweet trees, personalized sweeties bags and labels as well as items such as lollipops or marshmallows to match your theme. Complete heaven in our opinion!! Personalized bunting can also be added so why not ask for a love heart bunting to frame your cart? The cart itself can also be decorated to your liking and finishing touches such as Mr. and Mrs. Signs can be added to finish off the look perfectly. Second on the food agenda is cake. This is obviously a crucial food item for a wedding and is a great way to add a touch of valentine. Use a valentine’s cake topper on the top of your cake, or have little cupcakes decorated with love hearts on the icing, or love heart sweets on top which read ‘Be Mine’! We all know the little messages on those sugary delights, don’t we? Ice-cream is also a good dessert choice for a wedding as it is refreshing and light enough so you can show off your dance moves later in the evening. Why not go for sorbets or a mixture of ice-cream flavors such as strawberry and chocolate Ice-cream wafers could also be designed with your food caterers to add some valentines sparkle. The list is endless but sweet treats for your wedding are a great way to be creative and wow your wedding party.

Networking & Promotional PHOTOGRAPHY SHOOTS
At the beginning of June we had come to know our Designer and resident photographer Michelle Howard from Em Arts & Vintage Photography (www.emwedding-portrait-photography.co.uk) . Through many discussions on how to inspire our brides we had come to the conclusion that developing promotional shoots, with set themes, that would also support the needs of our clients; that promotional shoots would be of great advantage to us all. What we felt would be the greatest of benefits to our brides is that we could see the quality and service of businesses first hand. We could therefore recommend to you business that we truly believe in. But not only that we could prove this through photographs. Our first promotional shoot, was held in the height of summer. It was a hot day, and with only a small group of us. We were able to produce some amazing work to showcase. Despite the dehydration and heat attacking us... We were very proud to showcase what we as a mag had to offer your lovely brides. So here is a snapshot from our promotional shoots, and what we have planned for our up can coming shoot this spring.

With businesses such as Fusion Flowers, Felt truly Fabulous, Glorious Tiaras, Cakes for any occasion and Soar Valley bridal and groom wear to name just a few of those that helped make the day a success. We were then able to consider the Fairy-tale themed shoot that was to be held in November.

As we move ever closer to spring we have begun the preparations for our next upcoming shoot… which will be centred around the alternative wedding scene, which is becoming ever more fashionable within the wedding industry, and this is a movement called ‘Steampunk’. Steampunk… is a fashion movement which replicates the Victorian era, with twists of futuristic elements. If I were to say Jules Verne’s Time Machine… yes that’s it you have it!! If you google Steampunk Weddings.. you will see what I mean! So we now offer a call out to any business, brides that would like to be involved.. Yes Brides you too! We would like you to have a makeover, be styled for a professional shoot.. How about your bridesmaids, ushers, groom.. you name it we will style them???
