AYE NAKO: QUEERCORE FOR THE HEART AND SOUL @ DIGBOSTON.COM Queercore is a growing genre--an extension of the regular pop punk scene by queer punks who want representation in music. Aye Nako, a queer quartet that is leading the forefront of the queer punk scene, released its debut album in 2013. Its collection of jubilant tracks delves into the members’ own experiences coming to terms with their own identities and addressing the fluidity of gender itself. Bernie Sanders, a democratic socialist, has become a major figure in the political election, and his campaign draws forth the dullest of the trolls. The Boston Globe in particular feels threatened by Sanders, claiming that his ideas are hazardous to the “Kennedy values.” They incorrectly link socialism to the idea of a welfare state, which could exist under any type of modern government. This misconception fails to address the broad spectrum of socialism, which encompasses a variety of ideas regarding equal rights, elimination of private control over production, and so on. Four of out five heroin addicts graduate from pain meds--opiates, most commonly--and these medicines are pushed upon people by drug lobbyists. To make matters worse, real-life politicians are rolling in the blood money by partnering up with major drug corporations. Governor Charlie Baker is attempting to stem this epidemic by aiming to limit over prescription of opiates, but we’ll see how that turns out. The business tycoons behind the drug industry profit from other people’s suffering, so it will be difficult to unravel this web.
