L A M MICHELLE
PROFILE I am a fourth year Environmental Design student studying at Ontario College of Art and Design University. I am from Hong Kong and came to Canada when I was 15 years old. During the days in high school, I immersed myself in abstract painting and was passionate about spatial design. I am eager to bring my concept to real life and design inspiring space for the society.
SKETCHES One of my favourite hobbies is to sketch and paint. I like to study a space by drawing the elevations and perspective views. I am also interested to observe the relationship between forms and colors when I am in an interesting spatial environment.
INTERIOR DESIGN: RESIDENTIAL
In this project, my clients are Rick, Karyn and Sara. Since all the members in this family are very active in their downtime, my concept for this project is fluidity. In movement, fluidity usually refers to the quality or state of being fluid and smooth. This concept is inspired by my clients’ favorite sports, which are swimming and skiing. To imply this idea into the project, I want to create a sense of movement in the space. I want my clients to feel free and not restricted when they are in home. Just like the moments when they are skiing on the mountain and swimming in the ocean. I would like them to feel the liberation in their space too.
CONCEPT IMAGE BOARD
The concept of fluidity not only brings a sense of continuity but also provides a sense of freshness. On the other hand, fluidity also refers to change, a state of being unsettle and unstable. Therefore, I desire to create a space that is dynamic and lively. It allows my clients to feel the diversity in home.

The overall mood for the fluidity concept is to create a vivid environment while still providing a sense of cleanliness to the space. I wish my clients to feel relieved and fresh after they come home from work or school. Just like the moments when they feel after doing sports. Feeling fresh and clean. The fluid space allows my clients to relieve stress and feel relaxed when they are in home.

The concept of our hotel is about promoting human interaction and bridging connection. We name the hotel as Origin is because we desire to create a natural and welcoming space that can bring people back to the point where face to face conversation and connection are derived.

The concept of the form was started from the exiting building, which was a rectangular block. During the design process, I tried to cut the block into different shapes of modulars and shifted around them to create an interesting and sculptural structure.

SMALL STUDENT POD
DESIGN INTENT Our housing typology is student POD, a minimal student dwelling that is designed for all students attending university. The pods are prefabricated and assembled on-site, saving expenses. In addition, we specifically designed the pods to be easilyplaced in any infill spaces without deconstructing the existing buildings. SSP becomes a sustainable, efficient choice for affordable student housing.
CONCEPT A life of a student is about the social experiences instead of individual spaces. We want to create a compact but comfortable personal space mixed with semi-private amenities. The focus will be on the design of the social spaces; A clublike hub.
TYPE 1 - SINGLE BEDROOM A split design that accomodates two individual students; both students share a bathroom consisting of two separate accesses for either the toilet or shower and a shared vanity with two sinks. The design allows the two students to use the washroom functions independently and comfortably. The single pod provides minimal but essential spaces and furnitures that make it a home for students. In each unit, the bed is elevated at a reasonable height (1346 mm) above the finish floor, providing a small living area under the bed. The height permits sufficient room for someone to enter the living room and sit cozily.
SINGLE ROOM PLAN
TYPE 2 - DOUBLE BEDROOM The double unit is designed to be a little more spacious for couples or individuals wanting more room. The design stays similar to the first unit, having the amenities organized on the two sides. The storage, desk, and the mini kitchenette have the same depth, making it easier to prefabricate.

SITE 334 Bloor Street West Currently, 334 Bloor Street West is a corner mixed-use building. The ground floor is commercial spaces while the two upper floors are residential units. The adjacent building is much taller, creating an interesting space for infill. Our student pods will be stacked on top of the roof in a way that responds to the corner condition of the site. We will be using the existing building without taking it apart.
PROGRAM The first level are single units while the second level are double units. Communal social spaces are at the southeast corner of the site. The amenities provide a set of programs that support student living. Space is divided into multiple areas: A main shared lounge area that is designed for interaction and socialization between the students. Within these smaller social spaces, there are smaller rooms for workspaces for students is an entertainment space for games, dining space, kitchen, and multiple small terraces for outdoor.
