CHAPTER 0 Who am I?
This assignment allowed to show ourselves through our graphics and see how well we can work with InDesign.
HI! My name is Michelle Rousso But you can call me Michi :)
BACKGROUND
I was born in Caracas, Venezuela in 2001 and moved to Miami in 2002. My mom is Venezuelan and my dad is Cuban. I have an older brother that was also born in Venezuelan. I speak and write English and Spanish. I became focused on design after that first “Take Your Child to Work Day” in elementary with my dad. The factors that affected my path was that I was originally studying Business at FIU because I was unsure of the Interior Architecture route. I have my brother to thank for since he pushed me to switch majors and study Interior Architecture.
Interior Design I have High School Degree from Doral Academy High School and in progress of the My Master Degree of FIU’s Interior Architecture. I am actually in my 3rd year of that program. Since 2019, I have been working for Pedini Miami by Daruso Design.
My dad has been an Interior Designer for 15+ years. When I was little and my mom would have to work on Teacher Planning Days, she and my father agreed for me to go with him on those days. It was a way to hang out with my dad, and see what he did as his job. I would see the whole process of Designing in just that one day. He is the one that gave me the inspiration of studying Interior Design or in this case, Interior Architecture.

COLOR These are colors I resonate the most with since I don’t like having bright colors being too much in your face. This Nude color palette seems satisfying.
Conclusions
This module was very fun as I got to show information about myself and took a step in reinforcing my weakness in not being that great at graphic presentations. InDesign was not that hard to use since I used it for a bit in D3 and D4.
VENEZUELA
Chapter 1: COLOR + CULTURE Türkiye This assignment will cover how two different countries and their differences/similarities in their colors and cultures.
Venezzuela
“Ambientación de Color Aditivo” is an installation made by Carlos Cruz-Diez and located in the central hallway of the Simón Bolívar International Airport. The use of Yellow, Black, Blue, & Red in different shapes and sizes makes it so that from whichever way you are approaching this installation, you will see different colors. There is no outside help that will cause this effect. Only Natural Movement.
“Esfera Caracas” is a kinetic sculpture made with a series of aluminum rods that form together a large orange ball hanging in mid-air. The sculpture was lost for sometime before they found it making its home along the Francisco Fajardo Highway in 1997. The reason it is out in the open and not in a museum is because Jesus Soto (Artist) decided to donate it so that all the Venezuelans can appreciate and enjoy it everyday. It’s a gift to the Venezuelans.
Los Nevados is a town founded in 1591 and perched on Sierra Nevada in Mérida, Venezuela. The only modes of transportation is by mule, a 4x4 jeep, or the cable ride system to Loma Redonda station. This town has single short street with old houses on each side. Each house includes Bahareque (Bamboo) walls, wide eaves and tile roofs. Some of these homes have been remolded and made into inns or available to rent on AirBnb.
This is the National Tree of Venezuela, the “Araguaney.” It is native to Venezuela and can be found anywhere in Venezuela. This tree has the ability to adapt to various soil types. The Araguaney also captures the essence of the Venezuelan Spirit by symbolizing resilience and beauty. Another symbolism to the Venezuelan people, is its ability to survive in a variety of environments which made it the perfect national symbol.
This mountain is “El Ávila” which is also a national park in Caracas (capital of Venezuela). El Ávila is very important to the Venezuelan Culture and has several traditions. It is also known as the lungs of the city or, “El pulmón de la ciudad.“ The peak of the mountain marks the north of the city and also has the longest cable car ride in the world. El Ávila is hosts to many restaurants, a large crucifix called the “Cruz de Navidad“, and includes recreational activities. There is a common expression among the citizens of Caracas describing the change in seasons called, “Pacheco has arrived.“ When this phrase is said, it means that the December weather is about to get colder.
Türkiye kiye
Blue has many symbolisms in Türkiye. It represents Healing, an Evil Repellent, and Wealth. That’s why you see the Blue Eye’s everywhere as they ward off evil spirits. Hot air balloons are also something common in Türkiye as an attraction. You can find their typical carpets, jewerly, and products in small rooms or markets.
Conclusions
This assignment was interesting to do as I learned so many things about my country from mom and about Türkiye.. Both cultures are interesting and both have their similarities and differences.
Chapter 2 : COLOR + THEORY
• Theory explains the concepts and ideas involved in describing and rationalizing phenomena about a particular subject. Theories, for the most part, are unproven and continue to be studied to provide additional insight into the particular subject. • Albert Munsell was the inventor of the Munsell Color System. • Josef Albers was known for his rigorously experimental approach to spatial relationships and color theory. • Johannes Itten based his theories off of the relationship between emotions and colors. • Faber Birren was one of the first color theorists to recognize the human biological and • psychological responses to color. • Direct color is viewing a color on a particular surface and Indirect Color is from adjoining or opposite wall surfaces or objects reflecting their color. • There are 2 basic types of color mixing: with light and pigment. Additive color involves mixing with light and subtractive color involves mixing with pigment.
Chapter 3: COLOR + DESIGNERS
In this assignment, we will dive in to a designer and a famous building they built/designed. We will learn a little more about their different mindset and how they reached the finish line with their project.
Diller Scofidio + Renfro: Building
He is the second founder of DS+R and husband to Elizabeth Diller. Scofidio was an Assistant Teacher/Professor at Cookper Uni where he met Elizabeth.

BUILDING Roy and Diana Vagelos Education Center The Roy and Diana Vagelos Education Center is the Medical Center for Columbia University in New York’s Washington Heights neighborhood. The building construction started in 2010 ending with the opening in August 2016. The zigzagging of the south elevation represents a “paradigm shift in the medical education.” This 14-story glass tower, as known as the “Study Cascade”, includes collaboration spaces, tech advanced classrooms, and a modern simulation center. They wanted a color scheme that would create sensations of calmness, intense focus, and intense concentration. They used Burnt Sienna-stained Douglas Fir with cool grays from the exposed concrete structure.
CONCLUSIONS The use of the Burnt Sienna-stained Douglas Fir with the cool gray tones gives off a calming sensation where you can study for classes. The zigzagging of the south elevation shows how the medical world can change or shift in the different centuries. In this picture, the light accentuates that Burnt Sienna wood and even makes me want to study there. Overall, DS+R achieved their goal to transform the feel and style of the Medical Center campus and to design areas that support the growth of abilities necessary for
Chapter 4: PERCEPTION + COLOR
Ch 5: COLOR + “THE MOVIES”
In this assignment, we will dive in to a designer and a famous building they built/designed. We will learn a little more about their different mindset and how they reached the finish line with their project.
The Grand Budapest Hotel
Film Summary The Grand Budapest Hotel was directed, screen-played, produced, and was a story by Wes Anderson. The film was adapted from the novel “Beware of Pity” by Austrian writer Stefan Zweig in 1939. This film was released March 28, 2014. The Grand Budapest Hotel, a well-known European ski resort in the 1930s, is run by concierge Gustave H. Zero, a young lobby boy who later becomes Gustave’s friend and heiress. Gustave takes great satisfaction in offering the hotel’s patrons top-notch service, which includes attending to the sexual requirements of the many old women who visit there. Gustave discovers himself the receiver of a priceless picture and the main suspect in the death of her after one of his lovers passes away unexplainable. The films main color palette throughout the film is purple, light blue, pink, nude, and red.
Scenes 1-2 Analysis
The color palettes in these scenes are purple, red, gold, pink, and nude. The pink and the nude are the representation of the prestige Monsieur Gustave keeps the hotel in. The purple of the Grand Budapest Hotel workers symbolizes the protagonists of the Grand Budapest Hotel, the red in this scene means the impending doom or danger and will be directed towards Madame D because of her robe. And finally the gold color under her robe represents the good of Europe.
Scene 3-4 Analysis
The Mendl’s work uniform and boxes are a disguise for Gustave and Zero to sneak back into the movie while the Mendl’s boxes are in the background of Zero and Agatha where they softened the landing after falling off the side of the hotel. The color palettes in these two scenes are pink and light blue. This colors are also the branding for Mendl’s, a pastry shop in the town below the hotel. As we watch the film, we come to recognize that this pastry shop become the allies for Gustave and Zero through Agatha, Zero’s lover.
Scenes 5-6 Analysis
The color palettes in these scenes are purple, black, and gray. The top scene is Dimitri, Jopling (secondary antagonist), and Dimitri’s sisters meeting with the executer of the will for Madame D. The scene on the right with Gustave, Zero, and a Military personnel. Again, Monsieur Gustave and Zero are in purple. The gray represents the government bureaucracy in the film. Finally, the black symbolizes Dimitri, his sisters, and Jopling as they are the main antagonists of the film.
Conclusions
This assignment was cool to do as I was interested in watching this film since it first came out and won its awards. I didn’t even make the connection that Wes Anderson directed this film as well as Fantasic Mr. Fox. This movie was interesting to see it in a different light and pay attention to the many colors in this film.

CH.7 COLOR + BALANCE
What is balance? The relationship of different hues to one another when each is “perceived” to be equal its “perceived” visual weight. A general term used to describe the physical or perceptual state of equality or order of objects within a larger composition. Light colors need to be BALANCED with dark colors, highly saturated colors need to be BALANCED with dull colors, and the intensity of colors MUST relate to one another to create a harmonious palette. The spatial context of the color used can vary depending on? The size of the space. Natural and artificial lighting. Influences from other colors and textures. Physical orientation of the architectural space [vertical, horizontal, angular, curvilinear]. The success of how a color is used in a space is determined by its relation to the design concept and the architecture. There are 4 types of color balance that can be achieved through color application. They are value contrast, contrast intensity contrast, contrast bright/dull, and light/dark bright/dull light/dark. A space that contains only one hue has the potential to be MONOTONOUS AND BORING
Chapter 8: Color + Emphasis
In this assignment, we were told to choose a store in Miami’s Design District and use key areas to make our presentation. Let’s dive in this assignment.
BABY DIOR
Contrast of Hue
The Contrast of Hue in Baby Dior is the leopard pattern and the different hues of blues. The leopard pattern is a material that you don’t expect find in the Design District but it draws people in with its contrasting color. The different hues of blues also adds in drawing people as they offer different sensations of peacefulness and security.
Contrast of Value The Contrast of Value in Baby Dior is the dark blue backgrounds with the white walls, frames, and its cove lighting. The white curves is a nice feature as it will interest the children entering the store. The dark blue background with its white cove lighting indicates the
Contrast of Texture
The Contrast of Texture in Baby Dior is the leopard pattern and the white. The leopard pattern serves as a background for the products sold in the store and the white as the third color to balance everything out.
Design Feature
The Design Feature in Baby Dior, I believe, is this dark blue wall in the back of the store with the books and the two mirrors. The books are seen throughout the store as well as part of the ceiling design.
Focal Point
The Focal Point in Baby Dior is the arched books thats in the storefront. This arched books attracted me into the store as I thought that was a cool feature. It was a nice touch since demographic designed for that store is all about education, reading, and learning.
Conclusions
This assignment allowed us to see Contrast of Hue, Contrast of Value, Contrast of Texture, Design Feature, and Focal Point in Baby Dior office. It was nice to do since it taught to look for those things in a retail setting which is a nice benefit since it related this semester’s project which was a retail design project.
Chapter 9: Color + Workplace
In this assignment, we were told to choose a workplace and find images from the company to make a presentation with certain information.
KNACK COLLECTIVE
Line
The connection between two points in space. I chose these two pictures because the vertical lines of the windows and the movement of the blue cabinets from the Island to the wall makes you want to look up where that beautiful wood texture and light fixtures are in the ceiling.
Shape
One or more lines connecting to form a two-dimensional image such as a square, circle, or triangle. This accent wall where Knack Collective take their meetings felt like the perfect image for Shape because of the many different shapes with colors and lines.
Texture
The characteristic visual and tactile quality of the surface of a material resulting from the way in which the materials are constructed or combined together. I repeated this picture for Texture because I love the different textures of the wood grains, bricks, white, blues. and the black marbles tops. The wood grains with the blues and bricks are repeated throught Knack Collective.
Pattern
The repetition and arrangement of shapes and forms. The image of Knack Collective’s meeting room felt like the perfect image for Pattern because of the repeated black lines when that garage door is closed with the blue lets the conference room be separated from the rest of the office.
Conclusions
This assignment allowed us to see Line, Shape, Texture, and Pattern in Knack Collective office. It was nice to do since it taught to look for those things in a workplace setting which is a nice benefit since my next semester will be workplace.
