Michelle TANNER | Weddings

HELLO! So you are getting married! Congratulations! It’s an honor to be considered to document your wedding. Thank you for taking the time to look though my wedding guide. I hope you get a good idea of who I am as a photographer and that it will help answer any questions you may have. If you have lingering questions (which is totally normal!) or if you would like to chat over coffee, feel free to reach out to me! I’m very excited about the possibility of capturing your wedding day!

ABOUT MICHELLE “I’m not sure which is harder,” says Michelle Tanner. “Going to the dentist or talking about oneself.” Luckily, Michelle’s work does much of her talking for her: fresh, clean, modern. “I work actively to stay up on modern wedding trends, but ultimately want to create a timeless product. I love the storytelling aspect of photography. I want you to look back on your images and be taken back to that moment, feeling the same feelings you did when the picture was captured.” Michelle also understands it can be overwhelming for a couple to pick a photographer who best complements their personalities. “There are numerous photographers in the Twin Cities area, and we all have tons of passion for what we do,” she says. As to Michelle, her emphasis is on great composition, without forced posing. She possesses a real knack for being in the right place at the right time, capturing natural moments as they happen. Her eye is quick and the shots are crisp, meaning images stand on their own without need for extreme editing or re-touching. On the professional side, she aims for best possible communication – both timely and clear – before, during and after the wedding. She strives for optimism, honesty, organization, flexibility and – as much as possible – a stress-free day for you! Evercalm amid the storm, Michelle remains “invisible” as needed, but can easily step up to guided directing at a moment’s notice. On the personal side, Michelle works to nurture genuine friendship with each couple. Married herself – and still madly in love with her husband of 14 years – she gets excited about every wedding, and treasures each opportunity to meet new people and bring her talents to their unique celebration. When Michelle isn’t busy capturing the highlights, she enjoys time at home. There, she and her husband raise and homeschool a handsome, funny and compassionate little guy they call Elliott – spinning LPs on the record player and playing board games (“I have yet to beat a certain 5-year old at Sorry,” says Michelle). She’s especially passionate about a chemical/GMO-free, organic lifestyle. And, of course, doughnuts. Jonathan Benson Editor, MSP Communications

FAQ How long have you been photographing weddings?

2015 marks my 6th year of professional wedding photography! I started studying photography at a college level in 1994. When I started shooting professionally, I started with family portraits, and musicians/bands. When I shot my first wedding, I was hooked! I love wedding photography and the rush I get at every wedding I am covering. How do you describe your photographic style?

Clean, crisp, and modern. I lean towards a documentary feel to tell your story. We can also take time for posed family portraits and fun wedding party pictures. What equipment do you use?

I am loyal to my professional grade Nikon/Nikkor cameras and lenses. I do bring backup equipment to all of my weddings. All of the editing is done with Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop on my super fabulous iMac. Will you be the person photographing my wedding?

Yes! I will be the main photographer on your wedding day. I have a select number of professional photographers that I utilize when your package calls for an additional photographer. Can we meet before the wedding?

Of course! Before your wedding, I do ask that we either meet for coffee or chat by phone to finalize the details and time line of your wedding day. Prior to the wedding day, I will be sending out some informational forms for you to fill out that help spell out the details of the wedding day. How many images will we receive?

You can expect to receive between 50-100 edited images per hour of coverage. The amount can fluctuate as every wedding is different. All of the images that were shot will be selected and edited by yours truly! When I select the images for editing, some images may not make the cut. Those images may have exposure or focus issues, they may be duplicates or the subjects may have their eyes closed in formal poses. Can we go to multiple locations during the wedding day?

Sure! We will chat before the wedding about the time line to make sure we schedule enough time to visit the locations you wish to photograph at during the day. Please remember to calculate drive times to and from the locations and venues. When will we get our images?

I know how excited you are! Please keep in mind that the editing process does take time. You should receive the link to your gallery within 5 weeks of the wedding date.

Kind Words

I was referred to Michelle from my band, Mish Mash (who incidentally rocked my reception exceptionally hard), and I am SO so glad they did. Michelle was a joy to work, we hit it off from day one. Kind of like the old art adage, I don’t know photography, but I know what I don’t like. Michelle checked out everything I sent her as a “what not to do.” From that, and taking the time to get to know me and my now-husband, really got what we were about, and what we wanted from the day, and it comes through in her photography 100%. If you want a photographer to get to the heart of what you’re about. Michelle is your gal, hands down. -Jenna & Patrick Michelle was amazing to work with. She was very responsive from the first e-mail I sent. We had a non-traditional wedding & she was flexible with our timing and activities of the day. We loved having her at the wedding. She definitely fit in with our guests and felt like she was one of us, we never felt like we were being pulled away to take photos. When we got the photos back, which happened very quickly we were incredibly happy! They were all so beautiful & exactly what we wanted. We will definitely be using Michelle’s services again in the future! -Diane & Tony

Thank you so much for shooting our wedding! Words cannot even come close to describe our gratitude. Every single picture you captured is a beautiful, single moment in time that will always be able to look back on and reminisce. Everything about this day was perfect. You showed professionalism, were so calm and took an astounding amount of great shots! Also, thank you for supporting the equal rights to marry. Without you and others with an open heart and mind, this day would not have been possible! -Michelle & Jackie Michelle is the perfect balance of a professional that one needs to be when entrusted with a couple’s special day, and artistic flair that cannot be faked in the final product. She truly helped make our wedding day run seamlessly, and it was such a weight off of my shoulders to know that it was one less thing for me to worry about, because I had the utmost confidence in her abilities as a photographer. She completely listened to our vision, as well as was able to pool her years of professional experience to help enhance that vision with other creative and appropriate suggestions. Michelle was definitely able to provide a professionalism that was second to none. I would most definitely recommend her services to any bride and groom looking for a quality, professional and creatively inspired wedding day photographer! -Anne & Brian

FIRST LOOK A first look is a modern option for a special moment before the ceremony where I capture the groom seeing his bride for the first time on their wedding day. It’s an intimate moment that has many benefits. And yes, it is just as special as the groom seeing his bride walking down the aisle! It has become common practice over the last few years and couples have really appreciated how much easier the rest of their day runs when they include a first look at their wedding. This is literally some of the only time on your entire wedding day that you get to just be together, alone. It’s such a special time to take advantage of to be present with one another and reflect upon your love for each other and gush how fabulous you both look! A first look will also allow for more images to be taken of not only the bride and groom, but also of the bridal party. If you were not to have a first look and only take photographs after the ceremony, you will only have a limited time during the cocktail hour to take all of your photos which usually includes bridal party and family photos. Too often, I see the bride and groom feeling rushed to finish post ceremony photos so that they can go and enjoy their guests at the reception. You never want to feel as though you are missing out on your special day because you have to take photos. Having a first look allows everyone to enjoy the reception right after the ceremony! The first look is scheduled in the time line after both the bride and groom have gotten ready for the day. The groom will be at a designated place with his back turned to the bride. After the bride has walked down to the groom, he will then turn around to see his beautiful bride. I get to capture his awesome reaction and the bride and groom get to spend some time alone together. After the first look, I will take the couple to photograph some images of them together and then invite the wedding party to join in the fun! Posed family pictures will also be included before a respite prior to the ceremony.

THANK YOU Thank you so much for taking the time to read about my photography services. I hope that the information in my wedding guide has helped you learn more about me and offer some useful information when planning your wedding! I look forward to hearing from you so we can set up a time to meet at my studio or for coffee to get to know each other better and to secure your wedding date! It’s going to be a fabulous event!
