The annual Taste of Milan event will take place at the Milan Senior and Community Activity Center Thursday, offering attendees a chance to sample cuisine from a number of area restaurants without having to spend the evening driving around town. LODI TOWNSHIP BOARD OF TRUSTEES REGULAR MEETING SYNOPSIS MAY 11, 2010 7:00 P.M. The meeting opened with the flag pledge. Roll Call found six board members present, one absent and 4 citizens in attendance. The Consent Agenda was approved, which included the April Minutes, Investment Report, payment of bills, receipt of the April 27, 2010 Planning Commission report, and receipt of the zoning report. A verbal report was received from the sheriff department. Public Comment was offered at 7:35 p.m. The agenda was revised and approved. There was no Old Business. New Business included: Approval of the purchase of a columbarium for the cemetery, approval to remove a dead tree at the old township hall and maintenance at the current township hall. Discussion held on a blight ordinance, the burn ordinance and the Zeeb Road Bridge. Public Comment was offered at 7:58 p.m. The meeting adjourned. Gotts said the event is in its fifth year, and there are currently seven restaurants signed up to participate. The committee was still reviewing applications last week for food vendors, she said.
So far, Campfire Bar-B-Q Grille, the Milan Grill, Milan Bakery, Lighthouse Coffee Co., China One, Doby’s Dagwoods from Monroe and Marco’s Pizza have signed on to take part. Gotts said the gathering is a large draw every year, attracting scores of hungry visitors interested in trying some new food. “It has been a pretty packed house,” she said, indicating last year was no exception. “I
would say there were at least 150 people.” There will be entertainment. Gotts also said the event will feature plenty of things to keep kids busy. “There’ll be kids’ activities,” she said. “The Girl Scouts will be there.” The event begins at 5 p.m. and last three hours. Admission is $10 for adults and includes five taste tickets good for one item each.
Children’s admission is $5 and includes three taste tickets. Children 5 and younger are admitted for free. Gotts said there is a benefit to buying tickets early. “If you purchase two adult tickets in advance, you get a child’s tickets free,” she said. Admission tickets can be purchased at A&J Travel, Jones Insurance Agency, the Milan Bakery, Milan Physical Therapy, Monroe Bank and
Trust or by calling 439-7932 or e-mailing the chamber office at info@milanchamber.org. Additional taste tickets will be available at the event for $1 each. Von and Ellen Bell, with their dedicated crews, will be sharing their skills in providing a generous meal and lots of fun for the community. The funds raised will support Peoples’ local mission outreach in the Milan community. Enjoy a grilled chicken meal of a baked potato, coleslaw, roll, beverage and a dessert. Monday, May 31 ■ Memorial Day parade will be held 9 a.m. The annual event takes place downtown at American Legion Post 268, beginning with a service honoring those lost atsea. A wreath is traditionally placed in the water, as well as one placed at the Blue Star Memorial across from Ford Lake on Wabash Street. The parade will step off and move down West Main Street to the Marble Park Cemetery, where the service will continue with a guest speaker. The public is invited back to the post for free soda and hot dogs following the event. Saturday, June 26 ■ “Computer Basics” will be held at Milan Public Library. Students will learn how to turn a computer on and off, move the mouse, use the keyboard and open programs. The class is geared toward people who are brand new to computers.
