Saline hosts Treasure Trail to Santa By Jason Robinson Heritage Media
ishes came true for local children this weekend as they met with Santa Claus during the Treasure Trail to Santa event at Busch’s Shopping Center. Children were able to meet Old St. Nick while embarking on a treasure trail for the chance to win prizes. Many individuals and families attended the event, which included elves, horse carriage rides, food, animals and much more. “I’m very excited about seeing Santa,” said 5-year-old Carmen Lauchu. “I love Santa because he always brings presents.” Katya Bell, also 5, attended with her mother, and asked Santa for markers for Christmas. Thom Ciesicki attends holiday events with his miniature donkey named Asscot. “Asscot is my most wellbehaved donkey,” Ciesicki said. He said it has been a busy holiday season. “We attend all of the holiday events in the area,” Ciesicki said. Busch’s Shopping Center is located at 565 E. Michigan Ave. For more information about Treasure Trail to Santa, call 429-4494.

COURT BRIEFS Hearing delayed while fraud suspect faces sentencing The evidentiary hearing for a Grosse Pointe man accused of swindling three Saline women in a mortgage refinancing scheme has been delayed. Bryan Crevier, 49, was scheduled to appear for a pretrial evidentiary hearing in Washtenaw County Circuit Court last week, but a scheduling conflict with a prosecution witness led to the delay, officials said. In the meantime, Crevier, who is already on probation, faces sentencing on fraud charges in at least one other county. He was charged locally earlier this year after three residents reported that he took money up front for loan refinancing services and never delivered. The women, ages 47, 58 and 60 at the time, were friends and referred Crevier to one another after one of them had successful dealings with him in the past, according to police reports. Crevier waived his preliminary hearing and was released on a personal bond. Macomb County Circuit Court records show Crevier pleaded no contest to fraud between $1,000 and $20,000 in a similar case involving two Roseville women. In August he was sentenced to probation. If he complies with all the conditions, the judge may reduce the charge to a misdemeanor at a review hearing next July, records show. He is scheduled to be sentenced in Oakland County this month for defrauding victims of more than $1,000, as well. Investigators said that in all the cases, Crevier promised to reduce their mortgage payments in deals that never materialized. In the local case, reports stated Crevier delayed meetings with the women after they began to question the lack of paperwork, and then stopped returning their calls altogether. It took authorities nearly a year to find him. PLEASE SEE BRIEFS/5-C
