Quilters showcase skills at inaugural event By Jason Robinson Heritage Media
he Quilting Season in Saline held its inaugural quilting show Dec. 12, showcasing the works of area quilters Mary Jones, Sherry Peterson, Mary Hogan and Mary Lindquist, among others. Items at the show included finished quilts, unfinished quilt tops, table runners, tote bags, non-textile crafts, and much more. “I believe we are the town’s best kept secret,” said Lindquist, owner of The Quilting Season. “We have been here for five years. I do not think people know about us.” Lindquist has been quilting for more than 30 years. “Quilting adds balance to your life,” she says. “I would like to introduce people to quilting and sewing.” Peterson is a quilter and crafts person who enjoys showcasing her works. “I love quilting and working with glass,” she says. “I often attend craft shows and show my work to the public.” The idea of a quilting craft show came about from a Friday morning group. Lindquist, Peterson and other local crafters meet each Friday. “One day we were discussing quilting, and we thought a show would be a good idea,” Peterson says. The Quilting Season makes quilts for children at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor and Port de Paix in Haiti. The Quilting Season is located at 1025 E Michigan Ave. For more information, call 429-2900 or e-mail info@thequiltingseason.com. You may also visit www.thequiltingseason.com.

BRIEFS FROM PAGE 3-C
Man pleads to pot possession stemming from traffic stop A Saline man who was in possession of hallucinogenic drugs during a traffic stop has pleaded guilty to reduced possession charges. Court records show Michael Rabe, 19, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor counts of marijuana possession and an added count of using a controlled substance stemming from his May 9 arrest. He recently entered the plea agreement after waiving a preliminary hearing in Washtenaw County District Court. Sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 25, 2011. Saline police arrested Rabe after they stopped his pick-up for having a headlight out in the area of Michigan Avenue and Keveling Road, according to reports. Officers noticed a strong odor of marijuana in the vehicle and upon searching found marijuana and three multi-colored pills in separate plastic baggies. Rabe passed sobriety tests at the scene and acknowledged smoking marijuana several hours earlier, according to reports. The pills were confiscated and determined to be Ecstasy after testing. Prosecutors charged Rabe with possessing a methamphetamine and commission of a felony with a motor vehicle. He faced up to 10 years in prison if convicted at trial, but prosecutors dropped those charges as part of the deal. Rabe also agreed to have his driver’ license suspended as part of any conviction, records show. He remains free on a personal bond pending sentencing in Washtenaw County Circuit Court.
Robbery case moves to trail, second suspect charged A Saline teenager waived his right to a preliminary hearing last week on multiple felony charges stemming from the robbery of an acquaintance’s apartment. Andrew Wszolek, 17, faces counts of home invasion, conspiracy, safe breaking and unarmed robbery for the Nov. 5 incident at the Six Trails apartments. Authorities said he entered the acquaintance’s apartment after asking to use his cell phone and let in two other intruders. One of the men held the victim down while Wszolek and another man removed a safe bolted to the wall in a

bedroom, according to police reports. Police never recovered the safe and are unsure about its contents. But with the help of a K-9 unit, investigators tracked
the intruders to the nearby River Ridge manufactured homes. Wszolek was arrested without incident and denied any involvement before requesting an attorney, according to
reports. Investigators identified Josh Morris as a second man involved in the robbery, said Detective Don Lupi. He said Washtenaw County Sheriff ’s
detectives assisting with the investigation arrested Morris at his mother’s home without incident last Friday. Arraignment is pending, but court documents show he is charged with
the same offenses as Wszolek, including safe breaking, which is punishable by up to life in prison. ––Compiled by freelance journalist Art Aisner.
