The Unit is directed by T.M. Casey who is a 30-year retired law enforcement officer from Nevada. During its short existence, the Unit has been involved in numerous operations in the rescue of lost hunters, a downed aircraft, criminal evidence search, animal rescue, wild land fire evacuation, and has even packed out 800 marijuana plants from a remote canyon. The members of the Unit volunteer their time and equipment for the citizens of Humboldt County and any other Search and Rescue Units that may need assistance. The coordination of the Winnemucca Cow Dog Trial is a fundraiser for the Unit.
